The Doctor Posted 16 August 2012 Posted 16 August 2012 We have an infamous special extradition treaty with the US too. The left are always saying we are America's lap dog, especially now we have a tory govt. Why would the US want to go through Sweden? Simple - the Sweden treaty is incredibly easy for them to abuse, the Al Zari/Agiza debacle with the CIA is testament to that. It could be a simple sexual assault charge and no more - but Sweden's insistence on extradition and the timings of these allegations are bizarre to say the least.
ADK Posted 16 August 2012 Posted 16 August 2012 I thought none of us wanted rapists to get away with it. I don't know the charges against him i thought it was something less severe than rape, however i cannot imagine us threatening too invade an embassy over someone who is wanted even for rape.
purpleronnie Posted 16 August 2012 Posted 16 August 2012 Can you ever remember us threatening an embassy to arrest a criminal wanted in another country before ? What happened when Yvonne Fletcher was shot from the Libyan embassy ? why did we allow them all to leave the country ? exactly if we defy the Vienna Convention then its more evidence to show england is becoming more and more in a police state.
breadandcheese Posted 16 August 2012 Posted 16 August 2012 Good luck getting to Quito then Put him in a massive diplomatic bag?

I really don't see what's that bizarre about a police force wanting to investigate sexual assault, like Webbo says, he's a well known sex pest, it's incredible what people will stick up for when their is a chance big bad US might get involved in something. Did you see the state of his supporters outside the embassy today? I think i'd rather go to the US with a bag over my head than have that as my base support

Perhaps if his accusers are telling the truth, seeing his face all over the world's media day after day motivated them to change their mind about keeping quiet? Not that far fetched is it?
Daggers Posted 16 August 2012 Posted 16 August 2012 It's a shame he's not at liberty to pursue legal actions against some of the idiotic comments made recently in this thread - but then, when you look at the tools who made them, it's hardly surprising.
Webbo Posted 16 August 2012 Posted 16 August 2012 Perhaps the women he'd molested had had a drink. That would make it their fault.
Zingari Posted 16 August 2012 Posted 16 August 2012 Perhaps the women he'd molested had had a drink. That would make it their fault. He's not been accused of raping anyone though , it's "unprotected consensual sex" , so presumably the lady involved was not so repelled by him that she considered him some sort of creepy pervert . The charge was dropped by the Swedes for lack of cause ( usually that's the end of it ) , who has pressured them to reopen and why ?
21st Century Fox Posted 16 August 2012 Posted 16 August 2012 Perhaps indeed his accusers are telling the truth, seeing his face all over the world's media day after day motivated them to change their mind about keeping quiet? Not that far fetched is it? One of the women, named in court as Miss A, told police that she had arranged Assange's trip toSweden, and let him stay in her flat because she was due to be away. She returned early, on Friday 13 August, after which the pair went for a meal and then returned to her flat. When he was later interviewed by police in Stockholm, Assange agreed that he had had sex with Miss A but said he did not tear the condom, and that he was not aware that it had been torn. He told police that he had continued to sleep in Miss A's bed for the following week and she had never mentioned a torn condom. Both women joined Assange, the co-ordinator of the Swedish WikiLeaks group, whom we will call "Harold", and a few others for lunch. Assange's supporters point out that, despite her complaints against him, Miss A held a party for him on that evening and continued to allow him to stay in her flat. In submissions to the Swedish courts, they have argued that Miss W took the initiative in contacting Assange, that on her own account she willingly engaged in sexual activity in a cinema and voluntarily took him to her flat where, she agrees, they had consensual sex. They say that she never indicated to Assange that she did not want to have sex with him. They also say that in a text message to a friend, she never suggested she had been raped and claimed only to have been "half asleep".
Webbo Posted 16 August 2012 Posted 16 August 2012 This is Sweden we're talking about here, not Cuba. He'll get a fair trial, if it goes that far. He can take it to the European Court just the same as he can here.
lavrentis Posted 16 August 2012 Posted 16 August 2012 Do you ever get tired Daggers of being the fountain of knowledge and everyone else that disagrees with you being mindless idiots?
Daggers Posted 16 August 2012 Posted 16 August 2012 Does anyone think he's talking about me? Slightly vain. Do you ever get tired Daggers of being the fountain of knowledge and everyone else that disagrees with you being mindless idiots? And this is the edited version?
Zingari Posted 16 August 2012 Posted 16 August 2012 Does anyone think he's talking about me? i think it's probably aimed at quite a few of us , it is quite funny though , but sometimes I wished he'd just try explaining a little first and just accept that we aren't all as clever as him , and that sometimes if he gives us a chance we actually might understand some of the things that may not be as obvious to some of us as they are to him .
Guest MattP Posted 16 August 2012 Posted 16 August 2012 Do you ever get tired Daggers of being the fountain of knowledge and everyone else that disagrees with you being mindless idiots? He's the king of the world, didn't you know that? He does everything, knows everything, he's been everywhere and seen it all, disagree and you'll be insulted or on the end of an amusing picture from his fabalous database. How he has never been elected to some sort of position of power I have no idea, we would surely be the most incredible nation on earth with him at the top correcting the error of everyones ways. Enjoy him while he's here.

I fear I'll never be as clever as you, you little tinker, I just wish some of the others would actually get their facts correct before posting their opinions and libellous comments. I tend to feel that it's now easier just to laugh at those who hold opinions which are so devoid of factual content - as Hitchens said "That which can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence". What amazes me the most is that those who find my posts objectionable or offensive still haven't managed to work out how to use the ignore function. They must enjoy being riled and having something to hate.

Guest MattP Posted 16 August 2012 Posted 16 August 2012 Correcting you would be a life-occupation. Don't I at least get a side splitting picture?
lavrentis Posted 16 August 2012 Posted 16 August 2012 Bit sad really to put people that you disagree with on ignore
