Haydos Posted 14 December 2010 Posted 14 December 2010 So between the 1920's and 1993 (when they bought the Premiership title) where were they? We've consistently been in the top 2 divisions, spent plenty of time thorughout our history in the top flight. Founding members of the league means nothing Our fanbase is loads better than theirs. We are a much bigger club than them. Because man city have had a relatively unsuccessful past does that mean we're bigger than them? Even if we are a bigger club than blackburn you definitely can't claim 'much' bigger! Fook this, we all have different opinions on what makes a club what it is, i'm gonna drop it now. Glad to hear we didn't let newcastle pursue their interest in chrissy (is that considered disrespectful? I'm not really sure how things are dealt with when it comes to approaching personnel). Disappointed if it is berner, he's a good back up but understand why he'd want out. Wouldn't be surprised to hear fryatt kicking up a fuss again after not getting a look in against donny.
Kitchandro Posted 14 December 2010 Posted 14 December 2010 So more fans equals more points equals higher league position? Nope They have achieved more than we have both in the past and in the last 20 years. They are in a higher division than us currently and probably still will be next season. More fans makes a difference over a long period of time. Why do you think people consider Leeds a big club? Because they've won soemthing in the last 15 years? Because they're in the Premiership? No, because they have a large fanbase.
hackneyfox Posted 14 December 2010 Posted 14 December 2010 No Because they have had a very successful past as well as having a large fan base.

Rich Fox Posted 14 December 2010 Posted 14 December 2010 I seem to have opened up a can of worms here, the fact is Blackburn could not get anywhere near selling out a championship play off final at wembley on a hot sunny day with Dalglish as the manager and money to spend. I honestly think my local team Nuneaton boro would have sold that game out if not sold a lot more than blackburn and they are non league! I know at the moment fans dont seem to matter in football but it wont be long before the money dries up I think Chelsea will end up in administration in a couple of years and more will follow so fan bases are very important for a clubs long term future.
hackneyfox Posted 15 December 2010 Posted 15 December 2010 Chelsea in administration in a couple of years time? Are you a betting man?
Messi Posted 15 December 2010 Posted 15 December 2010 Bernard Parker would really excite me 109 goals in 116 games for his first club is an extraordinary record.
StanSP Posted 15 December 2010 Posted 15 December 2010 Bernard Parker would really excite me 109 goals in 116 games for his first club is an extraordinary record. Technically, he has 1 in 1 for Leicester, now. 100%.
Thracian Posted 15 December 2010 Posted 15 December 2010 More fans makes a difference over a long period of time. Why do you think people consider Leeds a big club? Because they've won soemthing in the last 15 years? Because they're in the Premiership? No, because they have a large fanbase. For me Leeds became big because they won things with their own brand of passing football and were remembered for it and for the massive characters who made up their team in that era. Leeds grew in stature because they represented a massive challenge to opponents. Other clubs have been much "bigger" than they are now not because of the fans they attracted but because of the football they played at the time ... Nottm forest under Clough, West Ham in the Bobby Moore/Trevor Brooking era, Blackpool in the Stanley Matthews/Stan Mortenson days, Ipswich in the 1960s/1970s, Bolton too in the times of Nat Lofthouse. There were many more of course. Aston Villa still has a good fan base but a big club now? I don't think they really send shivers through anyone these days nor did they even during MON's tenure. Sunderland are the same. Still big but they've lost some of their aura. Chelsea were a fashionable club in a Posh part of London during times in their history but became "big" with the expensive stars of recent seasons and were "big" in the great days of Osgood, Charlie Cooke and Bobby Tambling. Wolves had their spell of being "big", winning the league three times and FA Cup twice between 1949 and 1960, drawing crowds of up to between 40,000-55,000 in the 50s. Even at Leicester we're pleased now by an attendance of 27,000 but we used to draw up to 42,000 around the time when we reached FA and League Cup finals with some regularity. Queues for Cup tickets were stretched around the ground and beyond and people would camp out overnight. I'm not sure we quite became "big" but we were seriously respected by everyone and were only a bit of luck with injuries and a bit of conviction with money away from bridging the last gap to at least temporary bigness. Winning things matters immensely when it comes to being "big". Runners-up are forgotten and overlooked.
Finnegan Posted 16 December 2010 Posted 16 December 2010 I hate all this "big" club shit. The only thing that matters is how the club is known and both Leicester and Blackburn have a general public image as hard-working, unfashionable triers. The difference is Blackburn have spent recent history securely in the Premiership and we've recently been shit and in League One. It's a no brainer. I love our club and always will - but until Sven arrived nobody gave a flying fuck about us, we're just another "who?" - I don't know why everyone's so desperate to be a 'MASSIVE' club.
B52 Posted 16 December 2010 Posted 16 December 2010 Powell showing great spirit turning Pardew down. This will give all players a real boost.... The future is here.
The Padster Posted 16 December 2010 Posted 16 December 2010 My link Just found this. "Under Sven and the new owners, the club is on the verge of a big new thing and I think there is only one direction which they are going in and that is upwards." Chrissy P
Heskey2011 Posted 16 December 2010 Posted 16 December 2010 Sven's about to be on Sky Sports News, Quote from earlier in the week - "I’m happy here (Leicester) and I am not interested in any other jobs. I can sign tomorrow for three, four or five years if the owners want." think that says it all, makes me very happy, in Sven we trust...
Aleksz Posted 4 January 2011 Posted 4 January 2011 Charlton Job now available, could Chris Powell be on his bike?
cc_star Posted 4 January 2011 Posted 4 January 2011 Charlton Job now available, could Chris Powell be on his bike? Dennis Wise is favourite tbh if Powell is as good as rumoured we need to offer him a career path... I'm sure Sven would rather be upstairs wining & dining, than standing on a training pitch in the freezing cold... so who knows what the future could hold for Powell if the club do the right thing and create a succession plan for a few (or many) years in the future
Thracian Posted 4 January 2011 Posted 4 January 2011 I'm really glad LCFC are holding on to Powell--their coaching staff is top-class. Plus, before Powell gets his inevitable manager job, I would guess he'll learn more tricks of the trade from Eriksson than from Pardew (plus get in touch with perhaps a better set of "contacts" within the game). Anyway, what's with the whole "bigger club" argument? This is nothing but a pissing contest. Besides, just because Team A had fewer empty seats at Wembley 20 years ago than Team B or whatever doesn't mean Team B can't be a better choice for a player or coach to work. That said, though, as long as Blackburn remain a solid Premiership team while Leicester languish in the lower divisions, Blackburn are at least a better club, to touch upon what Haydos wrote. I can see what he's done as a player and administator. I also realise that he's popular. But what has Powell done yet that makes him so precious as a coach? I've not noticed anyone coming through from our reserves - such as our reserves are - so please put me right on this. It's a serious question. Clearly I'm seriously missing something.

Clearly I'm seriously missing something. he's got a 100% record in management? tbh it's harsh to judge him on what's coming through the reserves since they don't play regular games, just the odd friendly here and there and since we can't see what he does on the training pitch we can only go on what eriksson thinks and if sven wants him to be coaching here (which it looks like he does) then i reckon he's probably a good coach.
haraven Posted 4 January 2011 Posted 4 January 2011 Powell's popularity comes from his many years of proper gentlemanship in the football arena, and his general nice behaviour. A real stand-up guy that in any case is a great club ambassador. Also popular in the dressing room, and such would be a shame to lose out on.

Remember nobody seemed to rate Ray Wilkins contribution at Chelsea till he was no longer there and the wheels started to come off. WE MUST KEEP HIM....
