Christoph Posted 1 January 2011 Posted 1 January 2011 I'd rather we sell him then keep him on the bench if Sven had no plans for him, but it's sad to see our top goalscorer leave when we have a goal scoring problem. One good striker this january, come on sven!
Corky Posted 1 January 2011 Posted 1 January 2011 Well it was an interesting five years, started really well then fell away badly for the next two seasons. Pearson came in, believed in Fryatt and got his reward for 18 months or so, before injury struck. Not surprised he's gone. He's frustrated me plenty of times, but he's also shown quality as well. Bit of a luxury player but when on form he was very good to have in the team. I hope he does well at Hull and we find a better replacement.
fatmando Posted 1 January 2011 Posted 1 January 2011 Good luck Matty. You better get someone better Sven!
Toby or not Toby Posted 1 January 2011 Posted 1 January 2011 Dissapointed he has gone, but he wouldn't really fit in the system we play at the minute! Good luck to him apart from when he plays against us!
Finnegan Posted 1 January 2011 Posted 1 January 2011 While I don't lament Fryatt's departure at all - it's almost became a DJ Campbell situation in the end - we're going to be wide open for criticism if we haven't got a genuine 18-goals a season striker sorted as a replacement. Achievement is all about goals and we're relying on one attacking midfielder for most of ours. It's a form of insanity and it's not as if the problem's.a new one. We actually need two proper strikers and we need em now. Agree 100%.
Anish Posted 1 January 2011 Posted 1 January 2011 I'm disappointed that Sven never really gave him a chance. We've played the 4-3-3 system with mixed effect, but we've never tried 4-4-2 with Fryatt as one of the strikers under Sven. We all know Fryatt can't play the lone striker role but none of our strikers (Howard, Waggy or Bednar) have led the line on their own with much success. It would've been nice to have seen Vassell and Fryatt play together, with Vassell having the pace to get behind defences and Fryatt being the poacher in the box. Fryatt will score goals if given the service and given the support, which we've failed on both counts this season.
ousefox Posted 1 January 2011 Posted 1 January 2011 Good servant to the club. Was never a 'natural goalscorer' like people say but definitely one of our top players of recent times. Decent price for him too. Good luck Matty
Dylan Posted 1 January 2011 Posted 1 January 2011 Very disappointed, not been given a fair shot here. Lost out on AT LEAST a million in these 5 months on him.
B52 Posted 1 January 2011 Posted 1 January 2011 Remember that Fryatt may have been a Hull player since Sousa......
ballso Posted 1 January 2011 Posted 1 January 2011 Fryatt is a classic case of a player who when given a decent run in the team will give you a good return. I guarantee he will go on to do very well for Hull. All the talk of him not being a Premiership player is nonesense, we have a lot of players who aren't good enough for the Prem, and considering where we are in the league we should be looking to consolidate rather than having our heads in the skies. If Sven goes out and signs a good striker then I'll be less frustrated but for now, it seems we've let our best goalscorer go. Overall, a very disappointing decision to let him go. this. always been a big fan of fryatt's and am sorry to see him leave. still, you'd think that sven would have a replacement lined up. fingers crossed!
Criggers Posted 1 January 2011 Posted 1 January 2011 If we had played 4-4-2 he would only have as many goals as King and King would have less. I can't see any net gain from having a 4-4-2 system with Fryatt in. I'm sure someone will be lined up to come in anyway. Good lucky to Matty at Hull it was obvious he wasn't happy since Pearson left.
samjohnson Posted 1 January 2011 Posted 1 January 2011 Dissapointed that he's gone, but it was an innevitability as Sven hasnt been sticking him in the squad. But he hasnt been the same since he broke his jaw... Best of luck to him...
Guest Bilo Posted 1 January 2011 Posted 1 January 2011 Not at all surprised, he clearly hasn't been happy since Pearson left and he was never going to get much of a run-out under Sven. He'll probably do fairly well at Hull since Pearson knows how to get the best out of him but he isn't going to be a 25 goals a season striker because he just lacks a bit of pace and finishing ability. Best of luck to him, let's hope that Sven has a decent replacement or two lined up because we're going to need it.

I liked Matty and felt he deserved a bit more of a chance, but he didn't really look like doing it for us in this Div. I hope this doesn't end up being a move where the player ends up being and important figure for a team doing better than us though (Campbell and Gradel style!). I think your t'fer policy is wrong if you are letting players leave who then go on to do well at sides higher than you in the league(s). Good luck Matty
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 1 January 2011 Posted 1 January 2011 Was time for him to go. Didnt fit into this formation and no point wasting him on the bench. Hope he does well in the future.
Stevosevic Posted 1 January 2011 Posted 1 January 2011 Not bothered, waste of space as a person and a player.

Guest Bilo Posted 1 January 2011 Posted 1 January 2011 Which isn't the best compliment a striker can recieve! Those are his main downfalls in my opinion, he's never been the quickest and he does waste opportunities at times. Take the home leg against Cardiff last season, you can't afford to miss chances like that. That said, he has a good footballing brain, is comfortable on the ball and does have a knack of getting himself scoring opportunities, even if he doesn't take them as often as he should.
markbsac Posted 1 January 2011 Posted 1 January 2011 unless we sign decent centre forwards ...this may prove to be a bad move !
davieG Posted 1 January 2011 Author Posted 1 January 2011 unless we sign decent centre forwards ...this may prove to be a bad move ! That applies whether we sold him or not
markbsac Posted 1 January 2011 Posted 1 January 2011 but if he stayed its another option that we had...with him not there we do not have that option
Sk4 Posted 1 January 2011 Posted 1 January 2011 42 goals in the season before last and our top scorer until he had his jaw broken last season , does anybody know what we paid for matty from Walsall I know forest bid £850,000 which was rejected for being derisory before we bought him , so I guess we must have paid more than that and if we have sold him for £1.2m then it's not great business in my opinion , some people say he doesn't fit in the team under the present set up but it doesn't make him a bad player and I think it will comeback to eventually haunt us .
DanTheFox07 Posted 1 January 2011 Posted 1 January 2011 unless we sign decent centre forwards ...this may prove to be a bad move ! agree with you here, all good and well getting rid of fryatt best have a decent striker lined up for his replacemant, hopefully we will be in for vaughan!
Sk4 Posted 1 January 2011 Posted 1 January 2011 I hope I m wrong but he is still young and still has things to prove
