Yakubu played for Everton tonight V Spurs

If he was going to come to Leicester he would not be playing tonight, I dont think.

Shop Window ?

Imo would be a good signing for the right price,

does anybody know the price?

He was £11m a couple of years ago.. It is thought they want £7m from West Ham

read it on here somewhere, I perhaps shouldn't have assumed someone knew what they were talking about

If he can't get into a team which doesn't score goals, and Everton fans have disdain for him, he's probably not the best use of £5m-£7m

So why do a lot of our fans back Waghorn then?

In this day and age money controls 80% of football

wen now have a reasonable amount of money available to us so there no reason why he wnt comeif we beat any other contract offer

saying that though £55,000 per week on one player (even though he'd be raping the league week in week out) seems a bit much considering there is a few other gaps we need to plug.....

£55,000 per week could ger us 2/3 quality players in stead of one

He's proven at the level

We know he's not just going to turn up take his £50k a week then sulk & moan when playing away from home on a freezing cold Tuesday night in February

Plus Waggy is already on our books and won't cost a further £7m + £50k/week, and he's yound so with good coaching & management which we've got he will improve if he's given a chance and he takes it

That is a ridiculous assumption :frusty:

No it's not, we know that about Waghorn, we don't know that about anyone else, particularly an £11m player taking a step down

Oh I'm sorry, I thought as this was the thread about Yakubu, that meant you were directing that at him in particular which would be quite an assumption

Great point although a fit yak in this league would tear every team a new a hole it would sit a bit strange with him on massive wages amongst the rest of the team, when we could easily add quality of two or three instead of one.

It's no more of an assumption than assuming he's not a tad stale and that he's worth £7m + £50k/wk (talked about above, I don't know) and will fire us to the Prem

I can't see the maths adding up, he'll only ever be worth less, he'll be taking up a vast amount of our resources that could fund 3 other quality players and he's plains & simple a bit of a gamble (especially in this division where you have to be up for a fight every single game) as he's been so long without form... That seems like the mother of all assumptions to me

When was the last time Yakubu did anything of note, anywhere?! He can't even get into the Everton team and they're struggling for goals. They'd rather play Tim Cahill as a lone striker instead of Yakubu, that says it all.

His best days are long gone, face facts. He might be in his prime age-wise but he's had major injuries and since he's come back he has lost his pace and finishing ability. He's not the same player that he was 3 or 4 years ago. Look at his statistics for crying out loud - last season, 25 league appearances and 5 goals. This season 12 league appearances and 1 goal.

Whatever, you can all get carried away in dream land if you want. Yakubu will not be our saviour, mark my words.

we would rather play vassell gallager and dyer, but fryatt has already scored for hull. just because a team doesnt play a player doesnt mean they are bad

Well as I've said a few times now, I wouldn't be interested at 7million and 50k/wk and I don't think any team would.

3-4 Million is his current value and I very much doubt we would be matching his Premiership wages although he would be our biggest earner by far until we got promoted.

Every single player we sign in this division is a gamble. Yakubu has real proven quality in the Premiership and is still only 28!

Who are these 3 other quality players we can buy for 3-4 million who are not a "bit of a gamble" as you put it?

The fact is that you get nowhere by playing safe. Sometimes if you want to step up then you have to take a 'gamble' or pay over the odds for someone. Yeah it might not come off but if you dont try, you just sign players like Fryatt who with all the goodwill in the world, will never be a striker that will fire you into the Premiership.

If we want to make the change from normal Championship team to mid table Premiership team, this is the sort of deal we have to get involved in. Otherwise we'll just be like every other team from 1st to 15th in the Division of which there isnt much to choose.
