lcfc81 Posted 9 January 2011 Posted 9 January 2011 Decent left backs are like rocking horse shit (or at least that's what our AP keeps telling us). Ryan Bertrand's back at Chelsea and he's got to be about 5th choice so worth a cheeky bid from yourselves. Word has it Chelsea want rid so a deal could be done for an actual permanent signing. Why don't you want him? Heard he did well for you? (or am I confussing who you loaned?). Don't really see us having more chance than you of signing him. In fact as you had him on loan surely you have far more chance of getting him?
RedHux Posted 9 January 2011 Posted 9 January 2011 He did and we do. He's also seeing a Nottingham girl (seems to be a thing with our loanees) but Chelsea are playing silly buggers and have recalled him for "evaluation". Whatever that means. As far as I know we've offered an amount for a permanent deal but knowing our lot it'll be £5.34 and a bag of peanuts. Either way he's not getting anywhere near their first team and they'll sell to the highest bidder.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 9 January 2011 Posted 9 January 2011 After today's performance, what left back problem? The one we get when Bruno leaves
Houdini Logic Posted 10 January 2011 Posted 10 January 2011 He did and we do. LCFCmatt Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Look, there is no problem at left back as berner is a good player. Why does he need to be replaced?
MC Prussian Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 I really, really hope Bruno stays at least until the end of the season. Good, solid left-backs are really hard to come by these days (as it seems). My shout would've been Michael Ball - but apparently, he's lacking that much fitness, he didn't impress neither Wigan or Blackpool last autumn. But Sven knows him from his days at Manchester City, so why not get him in on trial and find out whether he still has it or not? It took Vassell a couple of weeks to get back into gears, so maybe it could work for Ball, too?
hackneyfox Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Love this board, players who are not good enough, or past their prime have a couple of good games and so many on here seem to think they're the business again and will continue like that all season.
Toby or not Toby Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Tom Kennedy returned from Rochdale yesterday according to the Mercury. Presume Bruno stays that means we have 3 players who can play there, so I would worry about a striker!
hackneyfox Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Two of them we know very little about and have hardly played, and Berner will get caught for pace many times over the season. But as Sven has indicated that there may only be another 2 coming in and he's after a striker and a goalie it may be that another left back won't come in.
kyle09uk Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Never understand why people keep saying Berner will get beat for pace all the time etc... He's am experienced LB with a good footballing brain on him what he lacks in pace he makes up in his decision making and awareness... Pace doesnt stop the winger getting by. Im a fan of Bruno and believe he can do a more than capable job in the championship and will get us a couple more goals/assists to go with that..
hackneyfox Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Pace adds that extra bit to your game both in defending and when you go forward.
marbelladave Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 A point no-one has mentioned; Hobbs is not at his best at left center back but is clearly more comfortable playing there with Bruno alongside. So if Hobbs has to play on his weaker left side then this is, for me, the pairing that should be used. Of course the arrival of Bamba and Mee has thrown our back 4 back into uncertainty once again, Sven needs to get on top of this and settle things down quickly, we need the confidence that comes from a more settled defence. As an aside, I have heard that Bamba is very effective in midfield, I guess he could sit in front of a back 4 of Naughton, Hobbs, Mee and Berner. Everyone in their best/natural position, should help tighten our leaky defence particularly away from the Walkers...
hackneyfox Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Kennedy was on loan for 3 months and only played 6 games. Was this down to an injury or did they think he'd lost it? Why did they not look to extend the loan?
teblin Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Kennedy was on loan for 3 months and only played 6 games. Was this down to an injury or did they think he'd lost it? Why did they not look to extend the loan? I guess they may not have played many games due to the weather. We have Berner, Mee and Kennedy. So that should be enough cover.
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 The problem for Bruno is that he knows Sven wants younger/fitter/quicker full backs like Naughton. He wants them bombing on for 90 mins & Bruno isn't able to do that. He knows he has a 12 month on
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Cont. He knows he has a 12 month contract on offer but that he will most likely find himself out of favour with a younger replacement. It's a clear option for Bruno if you ask me. He may well go, and that's a big loss for us.
cc_star Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 I guess they may not have played many games due to the weather. We have Berner, Mee and Kennedy. So that should be enough cover. ...but Berner wants to go, Mee is a centre-half primarily, therefore I can't see him being an attacking threat like a proper LB, probably designed to challenge Hobbs for his place seeing as Vitor is perma-injured. Meaning that Mee would be cover only for LB in the way Morisson was at RB The popular opinion of Kennedy is that he's nowhere near good enough, or just not ready if we were to be polite Naughton with Neilson as backup - on the right Samba, Hobbs Mee & Vitor challenging for two spots - in the middle No one (should Berner leave) with Mee as backup - on the left. However he is still here, and I'd have thought he'd stop if we didn't sign someone as it would probably mean he'd be first choice when fit
cc_star Posted 13 January 2011 Posted 13 January 2011 The Berner situation will be mentioned on RL at 5:30 From Stringer's twitter Berner news 5.30pm 104.9fm
cc_star Posted 13 January 2011 Posted 13 January 2011 Looks like Berner is staying according to Sven on RL Met with his agent yesterday and he "wants to stay"
SPF07 Posted 16 January 2011 Posted 16 January 2011 Although Bruno is playing well, it still looks as though Sven wants to strengthen in this area. One possibility on loan could be Paul Konchesky? Since Hodgson gone from Liverpool he has not featured, instead they have favoured playing Johnson on his weaker side. This indicates he may not be required. Thoughts...
Christoph Posted 16 January 2011 Posted 16 January 2011 He wont come in here. There are other clubs who will have him before we do
