Trav Le Bleu Posted 10 January 2011 Posted 10 January 2011 I'm hating those guys already. I'm hating ITV's know nothing coverage. I'm hating their "experts". But what I hated most of all was this... In the highlights last night, when Bamba scored one of the ITV commentators said "this is Leicester's cup final." Sod off! Sod off back to your cosy studio where you probably watched the match from eating your prawn salad sandwiches and eulogising over glory teams that you've never actually gone to see. HAving said that, postmatch comments were very generous to us, but it doesn't change the fact that ITV should just leave sport well alone. How was the ESPN coverage?

I quite liked ESPN's commentary and overall coverage. They didn't big us up too much (by saying it was our cup final at all) and gave us plenty of credit when we were playing Man City off the park. But when Man City scored, they gave them credit too. Their commentary was unbiased and fair and true to the point. And the best thing? The outdoor makeshit desk where Savage and co sat during half-time . Savage praised King and Wellens a lot too by the way.

The ITV highlights used the EPSN commentary, it was Waddle that said it was our cup final. ITV coverage is abysmal though. Poor quality picture, bad camera work, bad commentators and even worse pundits.
MC Prussian Posted 10 January 2011 Posted 10 January 2011 I think Andy Townsend's alright - he makes Shearer and at times even Lawrenson look like schoolboys with his analysis.
Floating Fox Posted 10 January 2011 Posted 10 January 2011 Keith, Ian & Andy....MODERN DAY FOOTBALL ******!

Poor quality picture, bad camera work, bad commentators and even worse pundits. That's just lazy but doesn't surprise me. And I knew I knew that voice! Also the picture quality... it kept pixilating, awful!

Zingari Posted 10 January 2011 Posted 10 January 2011 i thought Keith Ian and Andy was just to promote the initials of KIA cars i hadn't realised they were supposed to be actual real people , not that i ever take much notice of this stuff anyway

That proves you take far TOO MUCH notice!
CosbehFox Posted 10 January 2011 Posted 10 January 2011 ITV and ESPN's coverage personally I feel has been woeful. Bordering on disrespect on the smaller sides, complete ignorance of the two non-league sides left, cliches throughout, commentatory which sounds like it's being read from the handbook. Woeful. Just woeful. Five Live however covered I think 7 games over the weekend. Cos I was driving, I listened to it mostly Saturday. Clem sat on the York bus on the way to the game, they spoke every giantkilling manager post-match, the main game was Scunny-Everton which on paper was a great choice given Everton's poor record against lower league sides. Tons better and mostly refreshing, no horrid cliched tripe.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 10 January 2011 Posted 10 January 2011 ITV is shite. Adverts everyt two minutes and despite it being a Cup programme, but time was spent talking about Daglish/Hodgson and Chelseas next 6 fixtures!
Guest ttfn Posted 10 January 2011 Posted 10 January 2011 I think there's a topic somewhere else on worst pundits, but Andy Townsend takes the whole fooking tin. It boggles my mind that he is employed to talk about football. What goes through TV bosses' minds when they offer him a contract? Everybody thinks he's shit. Nobody can accuse him of being biased because he can barely get the words out. Something which really irritates me about football commentary. The word "goals" when he means "goal". "They need to get a few more shots in on goals Clive". WHAT?! What does that even mean? You're shooting at ONE goal. ONE. Therefore, use the freaking singular. It is something which is creeping ever more into fan dialect too, which is causing great concern for my future sanity.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 10 January 2011 Posted 10 January 2011 I'd like to see Channel 4 have a go at football - they did alright with the Cricket when they had it!
Ozwin Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Andy Townsend is one of the biggest pricks on TV, can't stand the man. Bring back Robbie Earle.
StanSP Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 I'd like to see Channel 4 have a go at football - they did alright with the Cricket when they had it! They had Gazetta Football Italia. I loved watching that! James Richardson was a great presenter. Golacciooooo!
Haydos Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 They had Gazetta Football Italia. I loved watching that! James Richardson was a great presenter. Golacciooooo! True dat. 9 year old me loved that show
Trav Le Bleu Posted 11 January 2011 Author Posted 11 January 2011 They had Gazetta Football Italia. I loved watching that! James Richardson was a great presenter. Golacciooooo! For years I thought the presenter was saying "Goooooaaaal Laaaaazioooooo" which made sense. Then I heard somewhere that it was golaccio, which means something like "Brilliant!"

Guest BlueBrett Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Posted Today, 12:11 AM Andy Townsend is one of the biggest pricks on TV, can't stand the man. Bring back Robbie Earle. Opening myself up to the standard wise cracks here but I hate that muppet.
Alexikokopops Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 They had Gazetta Football Italia. I loved watching that! James Richardson was a great presenter. Golacciooooo! You should get the Guardian Football Weekly podcast
StanSP Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 You should get the Guardian Football Weekly podcast I used to listen to nearly all of them, but last one I listened to was the 2010 Year In Football one, think it was the last one of the year. Might start listening to them more again.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 Any pundit iTV reel out is better than Shearer, he's a complete shaft.
