The Republic will travel to Croatia to take on their Under 19 counterparts in two fixtures, one on February 8th and another on the 10th.
cc_star Posted 25 January 2011 Posted 25 January 2011 Shame there's no stepping stone into the first team
Bob Farley Posted 25 January 2011 Posted 25 January 2011 Shame there's no stepping stone into the first team Thats what i was thinking. Suppose even beckham had to go out on loan...
North-LondonFox Posted 25 January 2011 Posted 25 January 2011 Thats what i was thinking. Suppose even beckham had to go out on loan... We don't seem to be very proactive in sorting out loans - surely Jorrin John should have been loaned out by now.

Bugg Posted 25 January 2011 Posted 25 January 2011 and parkes and maybe even Taft and Schlupp (altough I think the latter two are still academy players?) Parkes went out on loan...
Richard Posted 25 January 2011 Posted 25 January 2011 Parkes went out on loan... And the Burton fans loved him. (Went to a few Albion games that season)
North-LondonFox Posted 25 January 2011 Posted 25 January 2011 Parkes went out on loan... Exactly - went on loan did really well and is now playing in friendlies rather than being loaned out again to get league experience. OI can't see the point of a player who is clearly good enough to play leaguie football spending his time playing reserve team friendlies or worse playing academy football when he's a first year pro.
Fox1651 Posted 25 January 2011 Posted 25 January 2011 i suppose its a healthy problem that as a club we have these dilemmas with good quality players coming through the ranks and maybe not all the answers on how to bring them on further - footnote, the problem will only get worse if we get in the premier (although obviously a good problem)
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 25 January 2011 Posted 25 January 2011 I agree Healthy problem to have quality players coming through the ranks. Up the Foxes
miles2lcfc Posted 25 January 2011 Posted 25 January 2011 Might go and watch Wales U21's and see how the young lad gets on. Only 4 miles down the road from me.
davieG Posted 28 January 2011 Author Posted 28 January 2011 OS Taft Named In England Squad Posted on: Fri 28 Jan 2011Leicester City Academy star, George Taft has been selected in the England Under 19 squad for next month's friendly with Germany. England's youngsters will be taking on their German counterparts at Chesterfield Football Club's B2Net stadium on Tuesday February 8th. Taft made his debut for England Under 18's in November last year when he managed to score in the Three Lions' 3-0 victory over Poland, and has again been called up by coach Noel Blake, this time to represent the Under 19's. A regular in the Academy side, the 17-year-old defender has also proved himself at reserve team level for the Foxes this season. George has been named alongside the likes of promising Chelsea midfielder, Josh McEachran, Liverpool's Jonjo Shelvey, and hot attacking prospects, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Connor Wickham.

Rodders Posted 29 January 2011 Posted 29 January 2011 It may be a "healthy problem" to have a wealth of young talent at the club. However, if we're not cultivating this talent correctly at the most crucial transitional period in a player's career, I don't think there's anything healthy about the situation at all. It's an issue that to me clearly needs addressing. And I don't just mean this in the context of it being beneficial for Leicester; for the good of the English game, we need to make sure that promising players get all the opportunities they can to show what they can do. This is surely the purpose of the loan system, and it's a shame that it isn't used more effectively. Hopefully next season we'll finally re-enter a team into the reserves league. At least here some of the more gifted youngsters will get a chance to play with and against more experienced opposition, which can only be a positive thing for their development.
Kenners Posted 3 February 2011 Posted 3 February 2011 IanStringerBBC Ian Stringer Sven: #lcfc youth product Jeff Schlupp to be given a chance in the 1st team (although he has an ankle knock at the mo) winger/striker. Rapid Promising that svens having a look at the youngsters but a reserve team is still something of big importance next season imo.

I wouldn't be in any doubt that Sven wants a reserve league for us to compete in. The amount of reserve games that he arranges seems to show that.
Jimmy Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 Milan axed the ressies as a cost saver I doubt the Thai's will have the same opinion, especially if Sven, as I expect he will, says a reserve team plays a key role in judging youth prospect (saving the club money) and keeping 1st team players fit
Foxybeaver Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 It seems that some of the players in the england squad are not really households names but on their way to becoming them, if loaning our players even to league two or conference teams would give them vital experience to push on in our team then I say why not
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 I'll fallen even further in love with the Thais if they do get us back into some sort of comepetitive reserve action. So refreshing to have owners that aren't looking to save every penny possible and don't see something that's clearly beneficial to the club as an unnessecary expense.

Pearson axed the reserve team because he didn't want any of the fringe players getting a possible injury for when they may have needed to be called upon.
deep blue Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 All our players mentioned in these reports appear to be 2 years below the upper age limit for the team (17 yr olds in the U-19s etc). I wonder if this is the norm, or whether it shows that our lads are progressing rapidly for their age, which would make them even hotter prospects.
teblin Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 Wrong. Pearson axed the reserve team because he didn't want any of the fringe players getting a possible injury for when they may have needed to be called upon. Wasn't he trying to get it back though? Remember hearing an interview with him not long before he left.
Jimmy Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 I was told by people that are ITK that it was cost saving and not Pearson's choice
Edmund Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 I was told by people that are ITK that it was cost saving and not Pearson's choice This. It definitely was brought upon by the board. I'm sure quite a few Midlands based championship clubs pulled out for the same reason. Most of the cost is down to traveling. Why they never set up a Midliands reserve league I don't know instead of splitting it between North and South.
