Our New Defence

OK, so I have a bit of a problem with Davies and his attitude but that aside he does have a shit-load talent when in the right frame of mind

I'll admit I don't recall seeing Van Aanholt play or even know anything about him other than Stringer said he was very fast

With that out the way it looks like we could have another new defence next time we run out

Naughton - Bamba/Davies - Davies/Bamba - Van Aanholt

With Hobbs, Vitor (if fit) & Berner providing the strongest backup possible.

I have to say that looks pretty damn mobile, and aside from either Davies or Bamba being unseated from having to play on their wrong foot it looks like we'll be comfortable as hell on the ball. All in all - fooking ace, yeah?

Not so sure about a Bamba + Davies partnership. Both like to play it on the deck which I know is what we're looking towards but I don't think either have the decision making ability to play together at the moment :S

Arent you a little harsh abut Davies attitude ? From what I heard he was really liked in the group and if he didn't fit in proably Sven wouldnät have lent him again.

He had a few games where he was a bitt off, but he may be our best player now who knows and maybe also this is a loan deal with a permanent clause, so I think we should welcome hm and judge him the following games (if he will play, we have so many solid players at the defence now so it's hard to say which ones he prefer).

One thing one must understand, is that we need cover in the defence when someone gets injured or sent off etc etc. Sven doens't want to bring in players that can't compete for the starting 11. When he brings in more players of course players like Berner, Hobbs etc maybe will suffer.

Also as MarbellaDave said a couple of times. Maybe Jack Hobbs is a great player but not (right now) suited perfectly in the way Sven wants to play. Also young player that stay on and train with other talents and good squadmembers taht we have taken in have a good chance to develop .

We just need a reserve team league now.

I think Davies was a bit unsettled about the speculation towards the end of his first spell, which affected his performance levels. He shown enough for me to be a great signing, hopefully the knowledge of him being here for the rest of the season will settle him down.

Can you explain to me what bit of attiude Davies has showed towards Leicester City football club, the fans or his team mates I must of missed that thanks

Echo the concerns about Davies' attitude but hopefully he knows he'll be at City until the end of the season (not for a couple of months like his previous loan) so his attitude and focus can be wholly on City and what we are trying to do here and yes he does have a lot of talent. With Hobbs being out of form I would welcome his return back in to the starting line up.

Van Aanholt is a quality left back, touted as a ready made replacement for Ashley Cole, I remember watching him in the cup game between Chelsea and Ipswich this season and last year he was on loan at Newcastle and played against us looking very impressive. We all know how well Naughton has done for us this year and Aanholt is just the same type of player, good defensively, quick and likes to get forward. Look forward to our new defense.

You missed the fact that for about his last 4 games with us he just gave up?

You missed the fact that it was a key reason for our appalling Christmas period from and once we settled down after he'd gone we've looked better at the back and have gone on an unbeaten run?

You missed the fact that it was reported that he just walked out on us and people at the club were bemused when he didn't turn up for training (reported on here)?

You missed the fact he went sniffing for a club, any other club rather than turn out for us and now it's clear no one wants him, he's back?

Aside from that though he does have talent when his head is in the game

Does Davies's attitude worry me at all? Not one bit. The lad rates himself and the fact he still deems himself Premiership class is good enough for me. There's been plenty of mercenaries in the game over the years but this lad isn't one of them. He has every right to take his time over who to play for and i'm sure there are other offers out there for him, but he's choosing us. If a decent offer from the Premeirship had come in he'd have gone there and rightly so. At his age and with his ability he's good enough for that level, irrespective of what O'Neill and to a certain extent Houllier think.

My only concern is Bamba and Davies together, I hope between them that one learns to not be the fancy dan as both enjoy a Cruyff turn in the danger zone.

I thought Davies had some sort of injury niggle whilst playing but carried on? Wouldn't want Davies + Bamba together, prefer hobbs +davies/bamba

Can one of the 'Davies Doubters' please explain to me exactly what he has done wrong!

As I see it;

- He came to us to get fit, get some games, help us win some games put himself in the shop window (this is what loans are designed for)

- He was honest enough from day one by stating he wanted to stay in the prem (can he really be criticised for this?)

- Clearly prem teams were interested in him (Stoke) and his Villa future was uncertain, going back to Villa after initial loan period was perfectly reasonable.

- No deal has been struck with a prem team (thats to our benefit then)

Please explain in detail what is meant by his so called attitude problem because for me he is a quality defender, perhaps potentially the best one we have, would people believe it if declared his undying love for LCFC, would never leave us and hopes to stay for the rest of his career??

Honestly, the amount of negativity shown here (and generally sometimes) astonishes me, for me these are exciting times for LCFC, we have many prem standard players in our squad, a quality manager and a genuine chance of promotion to the premier league, what more do some people want???

Am I the only one on here who is actually over the moon with this defensive line up? With Naughton, Bamba, Davies and Van Aanholt we will surely have one of the best defences in the league!

Signing Van annholt would unsettle Berner despite him signing a one year contract. :frusty:

I didn't understand the logic behind offering a new contract to Berner, similar to Howard. Both were in and out the team and coming towards the end of their careers, at least at this level.

Both their agents have played blinders.

Ok, so Davies attitude sucked in the last 4 games, However this time he is here until the end of the season, he will be aware that he has to perform well, otherwise Prem teams will think he is passed his best. He is a quality Defender and will be the best in the league if, IF he behaves himself!
