Adster Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 Can someone who went give us some player ratings please?
StanSP Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 Didn't go but Mee sounded like he had a cracker of a game. He'd be my man of the match. Special mention to Weale who made 2 saves, which were 'world-class' in the words of Alan Young!
Haydos Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 Mee, Weale and Bamba were pretty heroic today. Not impressed with Yak's workrate. Cba to post ratings at the mo
I am Rod Hull Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 Mee, Weale and Bamba were pretty heroic today. Not impressed with Yak's workrate. Cba to post ratings at the mo Had to be expected really, 2 in 3 is good enough for me. Though when Vassell played up top against Man. city in the home leg he chased everything down, and was fooking brill.
hackneyfox Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 Yakubu is noted for being/appearing to be lazy. He has a job to do, but Young wasn't impressed either.
lcfcsnow Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 I bet he still covered more ground than Howard would have, Youngy misses 'Big Steve' but its time to move on.
ajthefox Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 Weale - 9 - Made a couple of truly briliant saves that kept us ahead and was very steady. If he is dropped after tonight it's a fooking travesty. Van Aanholt - 6 - Poor. Looked vulnerable often and offered little in terms of an attacking outlet. First game and all that though so it's probably just a bit of rustiness. Mee - 8.5 - Quality performance. Was against a taller man I think but won a lot of headers and made one or two cracking tackles. Bamba - 9 - Absolute BEAST. Joint man of the match for me. Was solid as a rock, won pretty much everything in the air and was making tackles all over the place. Brilliant. Naughton - 7 - Shakey at times although I think some of that was down to the midfield. Provided some good pace on the counter second half and gave us a little bit of a break. King - 7 - Lovely and very intelligent goal but apart from that it's hard to think of him doing much. Wellens - 9 - Other man of the match, where we'd be without him I don't know. Didn't have enough support but was all over the place doing the dirty work and giving the widemen an option. Very very good display. Abe - 6.5 - Not as his best. Him and King let Wellens down a bit today I feel. Dyer - 6 - Had a few good runs but overall not that effective. Yakubu - 6 - Disappointed me today. Was very isolated at times, had little service and never really made much of a contribution. Probably not his fault though. Vassell - 6 - Very quiet. Never really got going, maybe could have scored right before the final whistle but wasn't an easy chance and it didn't matter. Gallagher - 6.5 - Marginally better than Dyer who he replaced but had little impact going forward. Oakley - 7 - Put himself about whilst he was on and was helpful in seeing out the result. Waggy was on for a neglible amount of time. A little more composure and a better pass to Vassell and it would've been two right before the whistle. Pathetic Northern monkey twice my age threatening me after the game - 0 - I hope you felt big.
FoxesFan123 Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 Just back from game, thought Weale and Bamba were immense. Was not impressed with Van Annholt.
wacky Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 On the tram so got time to give you some rating Weale 9 fab reflex saves Mom for me Naughton 5 never got forward or had a influence Mee 8 dug in & made some critical stops Bamba 8 another solid performance Van hoort 5 same as naughton King 6 just for the goal apart from that nothing Wellens 5 poor game for a while Abi 5 same as wellens Vassell 5 no influence wasted on the flanks Dyer 5 tried to get into the game, poor shooting again Yakubu 4 lonesome striker never in it Subs Oakley 7 for header off the line Gallagher & waghorn 4 for making the effort to come on Fans 10, for standing thru 95 mins of torture!!! Night, night see you sat, blue army Abi 5 same as wellens

ajthefox Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 Everyone stood but to be honest I don't think we were that vocal apart from early on and very late. He just started taking the piss out what I have on the back of my shirt while he was behind me so I looked round and then he said "yeah go on look round" Then he started walking right alongside me giving me lip about my shirt and stuff, I just said I didn't want any trouble and then he said "why not?" as if he was about ready to step into a fvcking boxing ring. It was right outside the ground and he turned off while I went straight on so nothing came of it but it did shit me up a bit.

It's surprising how little your fellow fans do to help when you're trying to avoid conflict. He was probably a bit pissed and just frustrated about our smash and grab.

He was probably a bit pissed and just frustrated about our smash and grab. I think he was just angry as you said and wanted to take a little out, I happened to be in the wrong place. In fairness though, his mate he was mouthing off to just said just ignore him, well played and a good 3 points.
Thracian Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 Weale 10 (If Weale hadn't been quite brilliant tonight we'd never have escaped with a win. Two fantastic stops - the first one of the best I'll ever see and a whole lot of other contributions in what was a busy night for out defence). Van Aanholt 6 (If he's the next Ashley Cole then I'm the next catwalk model. Looked lightweight. He marked closely and got a foot in on occasions. He also played his part in a meritouis clean sheet. But that was it. His control and speed of thought seemed poor and he'll have to be far better than that). Mee 8.5 As good as he was bad in the previous match. Handled a very similar situation to the one where he conceded a penatly last time out very well this time and made some vital blocks, tackles and intereceptions. He surprised me with his ability to win so many headers against a Sheffield side full of combative giants. Taking too long on the ball was his only failing but he wasn't alone in that. Bamba 8.5 (Another vital clean sheet and another committed performance. He's one emphatic defender. We were so under the cosh it was embarrassing but the bloke never wavered). Naughton 7 (Good at times and less so at others. Dwelt on the ball too much on occasions). King 8.5 (You can't win three points without scoring and Kingy - not for the first time - got our vital goal with another calmly taken blink of a chance. He put another effort wide, had a thunderous shot blocked, and looked to be questionably given offside when bursting through to be one-on-one with their keeper in the second half. Played his part in defence too and was one of the few who tried to remain constructive in a game that was often reduced to aerial bombardment by Sheffield) Wellens 7.75 (Dug in there as usual, did his best to give Dyer a run at his fullo-back but I thought we were mauled in midfield for too much of the time, especially in the air). Abe 6 (Very little impact in a highly physical game on an awful pitch. Sheffield closed us down fast and effectively true to Micky Adams' style and Abe was one of their victims, being subbed to save him further punishment really). Dyer 6 (Should have been our main key to unlocking the Sheffield defence cos he was in so much space. But when he got the ball he didn't make much impression and second half he didn't get the ball very often anyway. Replaced by Gallagher). Yakubu 5 (Poor both as a goal threat and with his distribution. We played little ambition after scoring - perhaps with justification given the poor playing surface and Yakubu never had many options in possession as our lone striker. But those he had were utilised). Vassell 5 (Might have had a goal at the end when Waghorn broke through but failed to serve him the simple, low cross necessary for a tap in. Otherwise a periphery figure for most of the time). Gallagher 6.5 (Did okay in terms of retaining possession and taking the sting out of the game when he came on). Subs: Oakley 8 (Oakley saved us two points with an outstanding goalline header when a goal seemed certain. Did other useful work too in his relatively short time on the field. But, short or not, his contribution was so valuable). Waghorn 6 (Why doesn't he work on a training programme to give himself a footballing right foot. If he'd got one he'd have ended a driving run through Sheffield's defence with a simple low pass to Vassell and we'd have won 2-0. But what he delivered was misdirected and at a ridiculous height and the chance was wasted. The run deserved but Waghorn needs to learn that it's end product that counts).
cc_star Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 Sounds like Weale was MotM which was the impression Stringer gave too, followed by Bamba Disappointing to hear Van Aanholt didn't get a grip and offered nothing special in defence & very little up front, obviously its his first game, so all eyes will be on him next time out. Ricardo will obviously have to wait for his début, unless Sven has bought him purely to provide a bit of competition and to act as cover. but, Yak if you're listening we can't afford passengers. Still great result and I'm especially pleased we were finally able to 'win ugly' rather than lose unluckily
stockyfox Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 I'll go along with ajthefox and thracian's comments overall as being accurately perseptive. Though in some ways, I'd give everybody ten. How the hell we didn't cave in during and towards the last ten minutes was down to character, character, character. At the end of the game, let it be known that there was not one City player who gave less than 100% to ensure we kept a clean sheet. and Weale was absolutely bloody marvellous....and ten out of ten for us, the fans, is an understatement!
BedsFox Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 Weale 9 Two world class saves, one from the first half long range shot and the tip over at the end. He made the difference between 1 point and 3 tonight Naughton 7 Bit of a curate's egg. Gets into a lot of promising situations going forward and solid enough at the back Mee 8 Real battling performance. Dealt with everything Bamba 8 Classy interceptions, sometimes a bit cute on the ball. However epic in the last twenty minutes Van Anholt. 6 Dodgy first half, looking to play a lot in the wrong areas of the field. Looked more solid second half. Not much evidence of the flair going forward, expect that will come. His was the header off the line at the end? Wellens 7 Did his job, stuck a foot in, helped out, a couple of nice passes King 7 Superb goal, really great technique. Struggled in and out of the game after that. Just offside on a couple of his trademark late runs Abi 6 A lot of the game passed him by Dyer 6 Flattered to deceive, and couldn't quite beat his full back all night Yakubu 6. Set up the goal fortuitously. I should learn not to expect him to provide much mobility in the second half. Ball retention was poor time after time we needed it held up and to control possession but he didn't provide that from the outlet balls Vassell 6 Flashes of his pace, plenty of determination but not a lot of service or end product Subs Oakley 6 Played his part in a rearguard Gallagher 6 Helped us control possession a little better towards the end, also nice to see him put a few challenges in Waghorn 7 Nearly set up a second goal right at the death Not sure how we did it, as it was a poor performance centre backs and keeper apart, and one flash of King brilliance, but we'll take it!
Thracian Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 Just to rub it in for Sheffield and their bellowing for a penalty - I thought we had a cast-iron penalty claim when one of their defenders clung onto a blue shirt so tightly that if he'd lifted his feet he'd have been flying. The linesman must have seen it because he was right in line and, what, barely 20 yards away?

Bob Weasel Fox Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 Sadly i was working a late shift tonight, just home from work half an hour ago so cant comment on how we played, however what a result 1-0 away against a side we would normally lose or draw against is brilliant. Well done City, well done fans by the sound of it. Up the Foxes
Fox1651 Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 Well done Leicester City - fantastic result, bravo, bravo
Kitchandro Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 Weale 8 - Fantastic stuff. One bad kick, but brilliant for the rest. At least 2 match saving saves. If Ricardo is in for the next game it would be a disgrace. Naughton 7 - Very assured for the most of it, the naivety showed itself again as he gave it away in a dangerous area a couple of times, but mostly solid and good defending. Didn't get forward as much as he would have liked. Bamba 8 - Similar to his previous performances, won everything in the air, some silky skills, very good performance. Mee 8 - A massive improvement on his leage debut. I wasn't happy he was picked beforehand, but he was on a par with Bamba really. Won most headers and put in some great tackles. Van Aanholt 3 - Very poor tbh. I was expecting good things from what I've heard and what little I've seen, but he seemed to be bullied. His clearances and passing were poor, and got forward little. Berner should take his place on Saturday. Abe 5.5 - Didn't really have much time on the ball, but mostly used it well. Didn't really do his defensive job well though. Wellens 6 - Got stuck in, but had little time on the ball. Not his most influential game but he wasn't bad by any means King 6 - The 6 is for his goal, he did very little else after that. Pretty anonymous, though it wasn't really his fault, our distribution from the back was appalling. Vassell 4 - Again, mostly anonymous, as most of his performances on the wing have been. Lacked effort at times. Generally poor. How he stays on the pitch for 90 minutes every week I don't know, he's obviously Sven's favourite. Gally should take his place on Saturday. Yakubu 3 - Had a hand in the goal but other than that was really poor. Seemed to lack effort for most of it, touch was terrible, was barely in the game. In fairness, the service was poor, but he did nothing. Dyer 4.5 - Did a bit more than Vassell, but his effective runs into the box were few and far between. His shooting and use of the right foot is atrocious, needs to work on that Subs Gallagher 6 - Didn't change the flow of the game, but worked hard and didn't misplace any passes. Is much better on the wing than Vassell. Oakley 7 - Cleared a certain goal off the line, can't remember much else but that was the second most important contribution of the match Waghorn 6.5 - Did more in about 5 minutes than Vassell did the whole match. Sven massively underrates him, he came on in the last minute and looked dangerous, and created a chance for Vassell with the last kick. BRING HIM ON EARLIER. Atmosphere 6 - I stood in quite a decent place, was a reasonable amount of singing (think J block for a big game). Never been to Bramall Lane before and the acoustics in that ground are about 100 times better than at Filbert Way. Their fans didn't sing much but came in decent numbers considering they're in a relegation fight and it was a Tuesday night game. Ref 3 - I'm told he denied them 2 stone wall penalties (which I didn't see), and other than that he gave them everything. shit. I'm going to be honest, I don't think I'll ever see us play that badly and win again. We won 1-0, but if we had lost 4-1 I couldn't have complained. By my reckoning they had 90% of possession. They misssed a number of sitters, were denied big penalty claims, and were better than us in every department apart from defending and chance conversion. We played hoofball for most of the game and a few players lacked effort. Sven should have made changes a lot earlier than he did. I can't criticise our passing because there wasn't any worth a name. Sadly I was having a piss when Mattock got stretchered off, so I missed one of the best moments of the night. Enjoyed giving him stick up until then though. Sheffield United reminded me of us when we went down in 2008, they dominated the game but had no luck. And for that reason I would not be surprised if they went down this season.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 Maybe a bit of competion is what is needed to get a bit of consistency from Weale when it was only Logan and and injured Ikelma he knew that only injury would stop him being number one. Know he has a fight on his hands he has to pull his finger out.
