davieG Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 OS Leicester City midfielder Andy King has been called up to the Wales squad to play the Republic of Ireland in the Carling Nations Cup. The 22-year-old, who has been in fine form so far this season, scoring ten goals and captaining the team in several games, has been named in Gary Speed's first international squad as Wales manager. King has already earned six caps for his country, bagged his first international goal against Luxembourg last year, and he will be looking to add to that tally against the Republic. The City Academy graduate will link-up with Wales from February 5th ahead of their game against the Republic on Tuesday 8th at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. However, the Foxes midfielder will be available for City's home fixture against Barnsley on February 5th and will join up with the Welsh party after the game. King is delighted to be included in the squad and is looking forward to linking-up with his new manager. "It's always an honour to be selected to represent your country and I'm looking forward to working with Gary Speed, a man I always admired as a player and someone I hope will achieve great things with Wales. "The fact that the game is against the Republic of Ireland adds a little bit of extra interest to the occasion and hopefully we'll be able to play well and get a positive result."
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 Well done Andy King he deserves recognition from his country and i wish him well
Fox1651 Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 I agree Andy King has been good for City this season and deserves a call up, hope it goes well for him
The Year Of The Fox Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 I hope he plays against us on the 26th March! He'll be the only Welsh player I'll cheer for!
Christoph Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 Maybe he's reffering to Wales, considering the entire team is mostly shit
Jakemoore Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 Just as long as he comes back injury free then it's all good ;D
Haydos Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 Good on him. Push on with the goals and he'll be keeping ramsey out
StanSP Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 Glad he's available for the Barnsley match and I would have been gutted if he didn't make the Wales squad cos he sure deserves it. Top player this season.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 3 February 2011 Posted 3 February 2011 Hopefully he will be a regular inclusion from now on under Speed. It's crimminal that he hasn't had more international recognition to this point. (Oh and Kingy if you are reading this..nobody will think ill of you if you nobble Ramsey, Earnshaw or Williams in training )

But he's done well and more than deserves a starting spot.

Don't forget if Collison comes back he'll have to compete with him. It pains me to say it, but Wales actually have a pretty good choice in centre mid.

It pains me to say it, but Wales actually have a pretty good choice in centre mid. FINALLY. Thankyou. Jesus. In fact, if ever there was a manager MORE likely to give King a chance it was Toshack and not Speed. Speed came straight in and started to try and rebuild bridges with Savage and Davies, I'm genuinely a little bit surprised he's not approached Jason Koumas. Toshack was Mr. Youth, he gave Joe Allen and Andy King debuts in centre mid long before they were ready. I've almost given up saying it on here really, most city fans have their fingers in their ears. Nobody wants Andy King to be a big hit for Wales more than me, fact, but we simply have better options in that part of the field and he's got a bit of improving to do yet before he's competing with the likes of Collison, Ledley and Edwards. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely hope he does. I'd love to see a three man central midfield of Ledley, King and Ramsey. You all just need to be patient, is all.
