Mack Posted 15 February 2011 Posted 15 February 2011 Lilian "142 Caps for France" Thuram? Nothing special in my opinion, cant remember any games or moments when he stood out and people were talking about his performance in awe. A good player, but not a great.
ScouseFox Posted 15 February 2011 Posted 15 February 2011 Winner of two world cups, a champions league, captain and most capped player of the world's best footballing nation...
Mack Posted 15 February 2011 Posted 15 February 2011 Winner of two world cups, a champions league, captain and most capped player of the world's best footballing nation... So he was a good player in some very good teams, does that make him my all time right back? Personally no, and I would wager I could name at least 3 left backs that would piss all over him even out of position. Just my opinion of course. Cafu is the only one I would consider, but even with him I cant really remember and spellbinding performances. They are just good players, but not greats. Again in my opinion.
CosbehFox Posted 15 February 2011 Posted 15 February 2011 Koeman Yeah boi. One of my first idol's....even after that trip on Platt. Buffon Cafu Baresi Cannavaro Koeman Prosinečki Seedorf Messi Bergkamp Henry Tubby Ronaldo Subs:- Taffarel Nesta R.Carlos Xavi Zidane Batitisuta Owen (before injuries) Gerrard/Scholes = squad players.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 15 February 2011 Posted 15 February 2011 Nothing special in my opinion, cant remember any games or moments when he stood out and people were talking about his performance in awe. A good player, but not a great. I can give you one if you like.... France '98, World Cup semi-final against Croatia. The home nation goes one-nil down at the Stade de France through Davor Suker. Thuram got the two goals that sent France through to the final, and the scene of their greatest ever footballing moment. If that isn't a stand out, awe inspiring performance, I don't know what is. Thuram's second goal: Him and Cafu were both world class right backs, how you can say either were 'nothing special' is beyond me.
Finchy Posted 16 February 2011 Posted 16 February 2011 They are just good players, but not greats. Again in my opinion. What a statement. Saying it's your opinion doesn't stop it being very, very wrong
Finnegan Posted 16 February 2011 Posted 16 February 2011 McMannaman and Pearce are good enough for your squad but Thuram and Cafu aren't? Admit it, you had a shocker, forgot about them and now you just don't want to admit you were wrong!
Mack Posted 16 February 2011 Posted 16 February 2011 Oh dear, the bitches have their handbags out again! My opinion is as valid as any of yours believe it or not, and it's just that, my opinion. You can disagree but dont **** me off, it's just soppy. My selections are based on seeing players LIVE in the flesh and not on TV or on highlights on You Tube or ESPN classic. You pick on Pearce and Mcmanaman.... Steve Mcmanaman is the ONLY player ever to have left me short of breath is amazement of his pace with the ball. I was lucky enough to witness him at his best at Anfield on several occasions and he is the fastest with the ball at his feet I have ever seen live. The ball was like it was glued to his boots and his pace was quicker than the best and fastest defenders of his era. Granted he could never be arsed for England, but he was an incredible forward moving force. Stuart Pearce I was equally lucky enough to witness live in his prime. I have been lucky enough to watch over 1000 live games all over the World since my best friend's father first took me and a friend with fishing stools to see our first games as 3 year olds who couldn't even see over the advertising hoardings. Stuart Pearce is without doubt the most powerful and passionate defender I have ever seen live. Players like him only come along once in a generation. He was an important part of our historic Italia 1990 World Cup campaign and an incredible force in the memorable Euro 96. His power and ability from dead ball situations I also witnessed live and he may well be the hardest striker of a football I have ever witnessed. He is one of the few players who can pick his team up by the scruff of the neck and turn their fortunes around. I would pick Junior the Brazilian genius over Cafu and Thuram every day of the week, even out of position. It's my opinion, get over it.
Mack Posted 16 February 2011 Posted 16 February 2011 I bet that paid of ****s you lot are wanking over couldn't sing and dance like this also! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFFFxc7MF4g Brazil 82, what a team!

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 16 February 2011 Posted 16 February 2011 #Waffle# Hahaha, I like how you've gotten so defensive, when all I did was post footage from a game Thuram was a hero in after you said you couldn't remember any particular decent performances!

Bryn Posted 16 February 2011 Posted 16 February 2011 Cafu and Thuram? Are you mad? They're shite. Course they are.
Mack Posted 17 February 2011 Posted 17 February 2011 Roberto Carlos, another left back who can piss all over Thuram and Cafu. And who could ever forget this...
Jimothy Posted 17 February 2011 Posted 17 February 2011 Roberto Carlos, another left back who can piss all over Thuram and Cafu. And who could ever forget this... What's that free kick got to do with being a left back though. A centre midfield could score that, would that mean that that player would be a better right back than Cafu?
Dickie Greenleaf Posted 17 February 2011 Posted 17 February 2011 Roberto Carlos, another left back who can piss all over Thuram and Cafu. And who could ever forget this...
