The Walkers Stadium's New Name

sure theres some get out clause.. didnt it come up when top n co first came in??

also if were going to do it for financial reasons we could be forever swapping n changing it and could end up with some crazy name at some point.. (all though people before have said they dont care what its called)

i would prefer to keep it the same even if they pay a little less than some others may..

This article from a few months ago may be what you're referring to.

If it has to be named after a comapny I would prefer Walkers they are heavily associated with the City and the club, but I think if we are going to be changing the name again, we should, as fans start to refer to it as Filbert Way, they can pay what they want and call it what they please but the cannot put words in our mouths. Maybe the censorship mods on here can censor the Walkers to stadium so it always reads as Filbert Way, like the do F U C K and Fook.

I've never been a fan of corporate named grounds, they always sound so hollow with no connection to the local support base. I think it's important what you call your ground, has anyone ever feared playing at "The Reebok", "The D.W", "The Brittania", "The Ricoh" etc. I mean even lesser teams fancy their chances at "The Emirates" these days.

I always fancied our place to be called Freemans Wharf, it's a strong sounding name and relevant to the area. Although I have to concede that the "King Power Stadium" sounds very appealing.

Blargh! At least pick a decent brand of fags, Mayfair are ruddy 'orrible.

The Marlborough Red Lung-Bleeders Stadium is what your need.

I think our new name should stick out a bit. Something like to draw in the crowds and separate us from the rest... The Asiannakedladyboymudwrestling Rice Bowl would be suitable, or something along those lines.

This.

Although the Walkers connection to both the city & our club makes it feel as local as any geographical based name and I'm glad to see it's going to be called that through to 2017, everyone knows the Walkers, even away fans do.

I think King Power is a brand that just won't work in the UK, not just because it's unknown, it just sounds a bit corny

I see what you're saying but Walkers have been owned by Pepsi for quite sometime now, which is about as corporate monkey as you get. I doubt the opposition fear playing at "The Crisp Bowl".

Can't only be me that thinks Filbert Way sounds awful?

I agree. It doesn't sound as good as Filbert Street, although it might be something you'd get used to, much like the Walkers Stadium I suppose

It's heritage and in a way I feel a certain connection with Filbert Street when I hear it referred to as this.

I like 'Way' as a descriptive and it's more unique than 'Park' or 'Street' anyway. (Not too keen on Freeman's Wharf, think that sounds a bit shoddy) tbh.

I'm not a fan either but the extra cash lets say 500-700 thousand pounds a year at a guees. That could be the diffrence between us having someone like howard up front instead of the Yak

It'll be officially be called what ever Top and the board decide you can name your house because you own it they can name the stadium, I doubt they'll consult the fans

As for Filbert Way it's just a contrived name and only refers to the tiny bit of road leading off Eastern Boulevard to the Gatehouse, hardly worthy of the name. If that's to be the name the fans use we should at least have the whole of Raw Dykes Rd and Eastern Boulevard renamed Filbert Way like the Council have renamed Waterloo Way from the Station Tigers Way.

I think a more accurate name would be 'Another dead body in the Soar' stadium.
