Kilworthfox Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 It is very difficult to accurately predict the final outcome & we are all going to have a diferent final Championship table after we have finished our predictions, but I personally can't see how another club out of the current top 7 will have a chance at promotion. Also at the moment seeing as Leicester have won 7/8 games & drew with a last minute equaliser at Preston it is very difficult to logically keep our thoughts realistic as this awesome run of wins should end soon. Bristol City may justly feel agreeved to leave Leicester with nothing, but from my point of view, LCFC never stopped being positive, especially with our substitutions & our attacking approach was justly rewarded. IMO the will to win from Sven is a better footballing philosophy than the Nigel Pearson's being defensively solid & not wanting to lose in that situation, where we would have probably sat on a 1v1? I can't see past Q.P.R being champions, even with their slight drop in form. I also believe F*rest will be 2nd because their home form is something that all clubs would love to replicate, they are no mugs for this division. One has to go then to reach the playoffs, from Cardiff, Norwich, Swansea, Leeds & Leicester. I think Cardiff will make the playoffs, along with Leicester because we have excellent home form & excellent recent away form to back that up. Looking at the remaining fixtures; Millwall, Hull, Ipswich, Doncaster, Palace, Sheff U (5 fixtures vs top 7 clubs remain) & Watford, Barnsley & Derby (4 fixtures vs top 7) will all have a huge part to play in how the current top 7 championship clubs will end up by the 8th of May. Hull & Ipswich have been quite impressive of late which is good news for us as we have Ipswich at home on 8/5/11. I believe that we will need 78 points for the playoffs & 84 for 2nd, taking into consideration that we will more than likely have the worst goal difference because of our poor start. 42 points remain up for grabs, that means that we will need 27 points from 14 games, which is good form, but not as impressive form that Sven has managed to produce so far, im feeling confident Playoffs again?
Stopper Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 I was going to start a thread on a very similar topic, albeit from a slightly different angle, but as you have done this here goes...... Over the last few years, i think we have all been accustom to one team making a late burst for the playoffs almost from nowhere. Blackpool last year is the obvious, but if my memory is correct there is always one every year. At present, given those sides who are out of the top 6, and (rightly or wrongly) assuming that we will be in the playoffs come after Cov, i dont see a big push from anyone. Your likes of Reading, Watford, Hull, Millway and Burnley all seem inconsistent, and as such dont seem to be making huge strides forward. With this in mind, i think the top 7 will stay pretty settled. NOW for the big one. If you do consider a surge from the turn of the year, CITY are the big movers. Given that we have already joined the tail of the playoffs, could the surge be the one provided by ourselves and in the form of arrival at 2nd place ? With many of the top 7 due to play each other, points will be won and lost to include Leicester. But, with the momentum behind us, could it be that our run takes us into second and automatic promotion 3 or 4 games before the end ?

But, with the momentum behind us, could it be that our run takes us into second and automatic promotion 3 or 4 games before the end ? Hmmm, I think that is being a bit over optimistic, but I can understand your view point, as our recent form has been inspired. I think the Bristol City game has been a bit of a well needed wake up to the club, as we did not play at our best, but kept on working hard & importantly attacking & keeping possesion. As stated above we got a fortueatious reward, having said that we were aplying the pressure.... & if that bounce had occured in the midfield then it would have been alot less significant. Although 2nd & even 1st are matematically possible, I believe that it is unrealistic! I know that to achieve 2 back to back wins is a decent achievement in the championship & we have achieved 6 but that run could oh so easily have come to an end last friday. I do look at the other 6 teams forums, & look to see what they are saying about Leicester (sad I know). The other 6 teams fans overall are not falling over themselves with how well we are playing or performing & we are certainly not their major focus! However we are mentioned, & other teams fans are not particularly relishing playing us & they are not happy to see us continually winning games & joining their 6 team party at the top. As I said in the 1st post there is going to be 1 club very unhappy come the 8th of May & I will be astonished if it is us as I sit here typing this. I speak with some "aquaintances" who support F*rest & they seem convinced that we will be the team to take their home record, I am less convinced! I am more worried by fixures like Cardiff away & Chavs at home before I start with the back end fixtures. You are right though, Blackpool, Palace, Sunderland all had very good form post Christmas to achieve promotion.
bluebeau Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 The one really positive thing to take from our last 2 games, Bristol City & Sheff. Utd, is that the lads didn't play very well & nothing like we know they can, but we still got 6 points from the 2 games! Both those 2 clubs were desperate for points as they are both in a relegation fight, so I guess there main aim was not to lose? IMO it should be a totally different game against Cardiff, I can see some good flowing football being produced by both teams. They have without doubt got some fire up front, so City will be tested. I will be happy with a draw, but delirious if we win. Hopefully a copy of the Derby game would be very nice thank you, 2 - 0 up at half time, & then sit back & defend like hell. By my calculations, City should finish in 6th place & qualify for the play offs. I make it that Nowrwich will lose out & finish 7th. If if if, if only Sven had been here at the start of the season! That little word ......if.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 The thing is that the law of averages means that we will almost certainly lose soon and for me, THAT will be when I see if we've got what if it takes. Will we lose and then fade or will we lose one and then win the next 3-4 to get the ball rolling again. How much will a loss take the wind from our sails? Oh, and possible emergency recalls of loan players - though fortunately our loanees are from clubs where they have lots of options before needing to recall what are essentially their youth team players, it won't be like Sunderland recalling Fulop. Out of interest, does anyone know our longest winning run? I have the idea that it's 8 games in my head, but no idea why. I think we came close to it when we were in League One, which was when we had our longest unbeaten run I believe too. EDIT: Just checked and it's 7 games for our longest winning run... equaled tomorrow?

With this in mind, i think the top 7 will stay pretty settled. Actually, Burnley under Eddie Howe have lost just once. They're anything but inconsistent, a completely different proposition now to when the inept Laws was in charge. I do think City will be the favoured team that sneaks into the top six out of the chasing pack, and I think we will, but it's not impossible that Burnely could follow suit, the way they've been picking up points recently.
Haydos Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 Wish you'd have made this after Tuesday night. It's becoming cliché now but another massive game.

Christoph Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 Just a bunch of 'ifs' at the minute. If there's one thing i've learned about supporting Leicester, it's not to get ahead of yourself and take one game at a time.

acooling08 Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 Playing the Current Top 6 in the coming weeks will make or break the season. I expect to lose at Cardiff, QPR, Forest so we have our work cut out.
Christoph Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 So Champions League winners 2012/13 then? Im thinking champions league winners 2020 with Sven solidifying out top 4 spot in the premier league in the great season of 2015 when we won the premier league title, before retiring in 2018 in which Chris Powell returned and after a year of management got our first champions league trophy
STEVIE B Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 One important issue we have in our favour, apart from current form,is that we have a very good squad for the championship.Only Cardiff could argue theirs is as good. With a third of the season to go,other sides could struggle-let's hope !!

Bit rose-tinted. QPR definitely could and i'm sure a few others around us would claim so too. Our midfield is VERY thin with only really an average Oakley as cover/starting. Similarly we'd be at a big loss if something were to happen to Naughton. Wings as well are a bit bare. There's still plenty of hard work to put in.

Rose tinted,perhaps !

Jimmy2Drags Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 Just wondered....has any manager ever taken over a team at the bottom of the league & then got them promoted that year as champions? If not, the law of averages says it must happen at some point...why not to us? I've said ALL season (even when Sousa was fu*kin things up) that we'll finish second, but with the team playing the way we can (grinding out results when we play bad & smashing teams when we are are on top form) I see no reason why we can't finish top. I know as City fans we have been bought up to be naturally pessimistic....this is what comes from being so far away from the sea, but I'm getting more & more excited by this season as it goes on......WE CAN FU*KING DO IT!!!! Lets just believe.
STEVIE B Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 As much as I speculate i'm a 'one week at a time' kind of guy so I'm sure there'll be plenty to say after tomorrow night Couldn't agree more ! Huge game tomorrow too.I'm sure we've all had a sneaky look ahead though ! Will be happy with a point tomorrow,if we can get 3 on sat !
isaidno Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 Some stats for you. Over the last 10 seasons the average amount of points scored by the team in 6th is 74. We need to average 1.6 points per game till the end of the season, If we keep up our points per game record we'll finish on 73.
Kilworthfox Posted 21 February 2011 Author Posted 21 February 2011 Is that a whole season average or since Sven took over average?

I couldnt agree more, I would love to see Leicester go un beaten all season, but just cant see it happening. last defeat in the league was against Millwall which has lead to run we are on now, lets just hope we can do the same again.
Nick Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 Sven said that we had 18 Cup Finals to go a couple of weeks ago......... With this mentality of play we certainly could get to automatic promotion. The likely-hood however is that we'll take a playoff spot....... Cardiff on Tuesday...... if we can win away to Cardiff we can beat anybody if our players stay fit. Like most I'd settle for a point - happily......... but I reckon we have the 'bit between our teeth' as a squad and are playing to break into the top six - somewhere Cardiff have been for a while. I think we may just trounce a giant tomorrow night.
Swampdog Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 EDIT: Just checked and it's 7 games for our longest winning run... equaled tomorrow? I thought we haqd only won 5 in a row since preston? bristol, derby, barnsley, sheff u and millwall?
The Doctor Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 I'm liking the optimism in this thread - incredible to think this time next week we could be in 2nd if results go our way tommorow and on saturday given that 23 games ago we were rock bottom, having just sacked one of the worst managers we've ever had.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 lets just take one game at a time eh? for all we know, forest v leicester could be a nothing game for both teams yet
