funkyrobot Posted 8 March 2011 Posted 8 March 2011 It's funny because you're not joking. I was responding to stivesfox who mentioned Sousa. Mandaric created the problem by appointing Sousa and sven was employed by the new owners to sort it out.
Guest ttfn Posted 8 March 2011 Posted 8 March 2011 Oh so the season is over now? Make your mind up mate. He (and this may come as a shock to some on here) considered his thoughts on the matter before posting that it was game over.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 8 March 2011 Posted 8 March 2011 Seriously though, anyone who still thinks we can make the playoffs is just mindblowingly deluded. We have absolutely no chance at all. Send back all the loanees and start fielding youngsters. Agreed
Haydos Posted 8 March 2011 Author Posted 8 March 2011 I'm not an over-reactionary but it probably is a case of planning for next season now. It would've been a Herculean task had we actually managed to make the play-offs considering the start we had (which a lot of people seem to be forgetting), but we haven't helped ourselves these past few games. We shouldn't be dropping points against Coventry and Norwich at home if we want to break that top six. Past few games have been poor, just hope people don't lambast the team considering the play-off places were so distant when Sven took charge. Appears as though as soon as they became acheivable, it was almost expected from the fans. That incredible run had to come to end at some point, although I don't think anybody expected it to come to such a shuddering holt. It's surely a sign that we're not ready, not yet anyway, and perhaps we'll benefit from this. Any fans that dwell on this poor run instead of appreciating that cracking set of results which made the play-offs a realistic possibility have no hope. We need a lot of signings in the summer, four decent acquisitions over the park to give us a solid spine. Top needs to splash the cash like he already has so that we're not just a force in this league, but capable in the Premier League too. I'm gutted right now after it looked as though we'd be THAT team that comes from nowhere to break into the play-offs, but it's not the end of the world. We'll rag this league next term if we get pre-season right. No question. That's something to look forward to. We won't be giving sides a ten game headstart next campaign. Stop being sensible, we can have another thread for that. This is for the twots who want to find something to blame. Getting to the playoffs now would be a small miracle in reality though.
Libertine Posted 8 March 2011 Posted 8 March 2011 Norwich are just like us last season. They have a squad that's been together for a good amount of time and a solid if unspectacular set up. While I won't agree with every little decision that Sven makes, we've had an amazing turnaround. It was going to be incredibly hard, especially with the short term loan approach, but I completely understand the thinking behind it as he didn't want to blow even more on permanent deals when we didn't know what league we'd be in. As long as we keep the essentials and build a strong spine and team spirit, we will give the league a dry bumming next year.
Corky Posted 8 March 2011 Posted 8 March 2011 We couldn't afford to lose this evening, eight points from the top six, Burnley rising with two home games in hand, it's going to be an extremely difficult task now, one I can't see us completing. So, what do we do? Give up and go through the motions? I hope we go out on Saturday determined to get three points so we don't fall further down the table.

topharry123 Posted 8 March 2011 Posted 8 March 2011 Norwich i mean Norwich...... Pffft, What doe's next season hold? Can;t fault Norwich, we lost to one of the best sides in the division. They may have gone up last season, but they have a team that is very capable. It's not over. It's a long shot, but we needed roughly 8 wins and we still need 8 wins. When it's mathematically impossible i'll accept it's over. Until then got to have faith, however unlikely the outcome.
buzzy Posted 8 March 2011 Posted 8 March 2011 Oh well Sousa ruined this season in 9 games, Sven has done his best, but not good enough I am sure this season he will have learnt about the English championship, personally time to send Yakubu back save 50k give some young kid a chance. Yakubu came here lots of hope and promise nothing short of shit, I was at loftus road on saturday and he hardly moves. Best thing now enjoy the last 10 games lets rebuild the playing side ready for next season, Svens biggest cock up was changing goalies, in fairness Saturday the lads played well again didnt take our chances. Depressing season thanks Paulo lets blame paulo

Depressing season thanks Paulo Sousa? What about Sven's 4 consecutive away defeats in December when he was chopping & changing the back line every 2 mins. Add that to the current run of 1 pt from 4? Sven was left an impossible task though, but I do think he's got questions to answer over his tactics & decisions, especially when you consider how much he's spent & even after that spending, yes we may have a few better individuals, but we're arguably a much weaker 'unit' than last season Coaching a team, team building, morale, enthusiasm, desire, hunger are all often more important than being a chequebook manager & signing a few gifted individuals for big fees on big bucks. I'd expect someone on £1.5m a year to know that

purpleronnie Posted 8 March 2011 Posted 8 March 2011 No doubt some fans will still think we can win the league, its just the way it is, I said before we aren't good enough to make the playoffs thats not being negative its just what I believe. Its been great to see us get out of the relegation fight, svens done a good job, I hope he stays and maybe next year after he brings in new players we might be in with a shot.
wurmer Posted 8 March 2011 Posted 8 March 2011 Sven will get it right in the summer. Corky Posted 8 March 2011 Posted 8 March 2011 We had a run similar to this in March last year, difference is we had something to fall back on so we were still very much involved in the mix. When you start as badly as we did you can't afford to have a poor run. Our away form all season has not been good enough, we've put too much pressure on our home games so any dropped points at home will affect us adversely.

Guest ttfn Posted 8 March 2011 Posted 8 March 2011 I think it's pretty clear that the blame for the comparatively (to last season) unsuccessful season should largely be laid at the door of Paulo Sousa. Forget the 5 points from 9 games for a second. Let's look at the fitness. For the last 3 and a half weeks, and for much of the hectic Christmas schedule, it was clear that our better players weren't fit enough to perform consistently. When Paul Gallagher comes out, as he did, in pre-season, and states that he is "enjoying training" you know something's afoot. Ultimately the consistency of the likes of King and Wellens is based on their fitness levels. Those levels are not good enough.
Parafox Posted 8 March 2011 Posted 8 March 2011 If Sven came for success he had a pretty good try at it but my concern now is that with the play-offs gone he will have his head turned by other clubs. He wants to be a Premiership manager in my opinion and taking City there would have added kudos as he would be the one who got them promoted AND he would then be a PS manager. I really dont think he'll be here next season regardless of Thai money
RowlattsFox Posted 8 March 2011 Posted 8 March 2011 People are speaking as though Norwich aren't a good side, think they've got the best away record in the league and as someone else has said, they are mirroring us last season. I would say the playoffs are out the question now, but to be honest I've always felt we'd fall a little bit short. Since Sven took over I've believed next season will be the proper challenge at prmotion. I can see the criticisms aimed at Sven, made changes for the sake of it at a time when they weren't really needed, a wide player has been a must for me since he's took over but he's ignored it and then played with 4 central midfielders, QPR I could accept but not tonight, poor selection. Still have faith in Sven though, I think he knows what we need in the summer. I'm not giving up completely though, we've got winnable games, only Forest (and there on a poor run too) and Burnley who are above us and we've done quite well against the teams below us this year.
