wurmer Posted 8 March 2011 Posted 8 March 2011 If Sven came for success he had a pretty good try at it but my concern now is that with the play-offs gone he will have his head turned by other clubs. He wants to be a Premiership manager in my opinion and taking City there would have added kudos as he would be the one who got them promoted AND he would then be a PS manager. I really dont think he'll be here next season regardless of Thai money Best thing he could do now, is to come out publicly and say that he is staying - it will at least give some meaning to the rest of the season, end uncertainty and give us hope that there will be something to look forward to next season.
RowlattsFox Posted 8 March 2011 Posted 8 March 2011 Norwich aren't a good side. They're just running on last season's momentum, like we were last season. I'm sorry but you can't just run on momentum, they are a good side. Yes they are a good side because of their confidence gained from last season but they also have some good players, especially in midfield and Grant Holt has done exceptionally well this season.

Grant Holt? Give over.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 8 March 2011 Posted 8 March 2011 Ha, I wasn't joking, I genuinely reckon Spearing could be tempted here from Liverpool, thought he was a good little player for us.
hackneyfox Posted 8 March 2011 Posted 8 March 2011 Sousa? What about Sven's 4 consecutive away defeats in December when he was chopping & changing the back line every 2 mins. Add that to the current run of 1 pt from 4? Sven was left an impossible task though, but I do think he's got questions to answer over his tactics & decisions, especially when you consider how much he's spent & even after that spending, yes we may have a few better individuals, but we're arguably a much weaker 'unit' than last season Coaching a team, team building, morale, enthusiasm, desire, hunger are all often more important than being a chequebook manager & signing a few gifted individuals for big fees on big bucks. I'd expect someone on £1.5m a year to know that There you go Haydos
Guest BlueBrett Posted 8 March 2011 Posted 8 March 2011 We are going to win 7 out of 10 and nick 6th off Forest.

I really dont think he'll be here next season regardless of Thai money Anyone who doesn't want to be here can **** off, he's signed a massive £1.5m/yr deal which no-one is anywhere near in this division, if that's not good enough for him, then bollox to him. He's under contract, so he'll be here and if not someone will have to stump up compensation to take him off us, couple that with his big wages it wouldn't make sense for anyone to do that.
WhitleyBay_Fox Posted 8 March 2011 Posted 8 March 2011 Although I'm absolutely gutted by tonights result, looking through our remaining fixtures I don't think it's worth writing this season off yet. We are only 7 points behind, not 17, with 10 games to go. I would have taken this position after being bottom of the league after Sousa's spell in charge. I'm staying positive!! Result against Scunthorpe on Saturday and if other games go our way, things will look a lot different.

xplicitmaterial Posted 8 March 2011 Posted 8 March 2011 We all need to stay positive, i am for one. A good win on sat will give us a bit of confidence back, alot of the teams above us are losing too if they were winning fair enough. Still 10 games left if were in the same position now in 5 games time then u can start slitting ya wrists

bigjohn Posted 8 March 2011 Posted 8 March 2011 It's not over till the fat lady sings, and the bitch is nt on stage yet
LCFC94 Posted 8 March 2011 Posted 8 March 2011 Theres still a slight chance but highly unlikely IMO, just need to keep sven, sign naughton and mee and a few other signings to beast up the squad and bring on next season, we're goin to be champions! :-)
Kent Posted 8 March 2011 Posted 8 March 2011 I'm not an over-reactionary but it probably is a case of planning for next season now. It would've been a Herculean task had we actually managed to make the play-offs considering the start we had (which a lot of people seem to be forgetting), but we haven't helped ourselves these past few games. We shouldn't be dropping points against Coventry and Norwich at home if we want to break that top six. Past few games have been poor, just hope people don't lambast the team considering the play-off places were so distant when Sven took charge. Appears as though as soon as they became acheivable, it was almost expected from the fans. That incredible run had to come to end at some point, although I don't think anybody expected it to come to such a shuddering holt. It's surely a sign that we're not ready, not yet anyway, and perhaps we'll benefit from this. Any fans that dwell on this poor run instead of appreciating that cracking set of results which made the play-offs a realistic possibility have no hope. We need a lot of signings in the summer, four decent acquisitions over the park to give us a solid spine. Top needs to splash the cash like he already has so that we're not just a force in this league, but capable in the Premier League too. I'm gutted right now after it looked as though we'd be THAT team that comes from nowhere to break into the play-offs, but it's not the end of the world. We'll rag this league next term if we get pre-season right. No question. That's something to look forward to. We won't be giving sides a ten game headstart next campaign. Pretty much sums up what I'm thinking/feeling. Well said and +1
Nationwider Posted 8 March 2011 Posted 8 March 2011 The season's not over. Pretty much every season we've made the play-offs we've made them with a strong finish. We can go back to passing our way around some mediocre teams for a bit now. The next three games - Scun(a), Pompey(h), Boro(a) are very winnable. We then hit a nice home double-header against Burnley and Palace, hopefully on the back of 7-9 points earned and confidence regained. Assuming we can stay unbeaten in those five - and we pretty much have to now - we can probably afford a slip-up against either Forest or Reading away. Win one, lose one, say. The final three games will be against teams with nothing to play for - Donny, Watford, Ipswich. 7 wins, 1-2 draws, 1-2 losses will be enough for sixth, or even fifth. Only the current top-4 look a good bet for the play-offs at the moment - and Cardiff can always be relied upon to bottle it. The rest are up and down. Everyone was jizzing over Forest a month ago - now, like us, they look crap. Millwall (in freefall), beat QPR tonight. There is no VERY good team in this league presently. If I were Sven, I'd get home, crack open a good prostitute and give some serious thought to the following: Recalling Weale Getting a fresh pair of legs in midfield on loan Going back to 4-3-3. Nothing against Oakley - Waghorn offers as much industry and (slightly) more goal threat; Gally far more goal threat Consider resting Vassell Stick with the Yak - his overall record stands for itself; he's still class. Who cares if he's lazy?
accessory Posted 9 March 2011 Posted 9 March 2011 Which one of the current top 6 do you realistically think we could catch? With the run that Burnley and Reading are on at the moment, they look a far better bet than us to make the playoffs. This squad is running on empty and has been since Cardiff. Time to start weeding out some more of the deadwood and plan for next season.
cc_star Posted 9 March 2011 Posted 9 March 2011 We'll come 2nd next year... mark my words. This year was quite unusual in that all 3 Premier League teams bombed & its only now that Burnley & Hull have been able to get results together. Normally one of the relegated teams runs away with it & another isn't far behind. This years, Wolves, WestHam, Birmingham etc are beating big teams are all miles better than Burnley & Hull were - hoping for a top 2 is dangerous business.
leicesterseddon Posted 9 March 2011 Posted 9 March 2011 If Sven stays and the Thais keep putting money in, we've got every chance of mounting an automatic promotion campaign next season. I've always felt the teams at the top of this league aren't actually that much better than the rest. All it takes is 3/4 signings in the right areas, and I think Sven has the nous to acheive that. Don't get me wrong, he's made mistakes...playing four CMs tonight, dropping Weale, switching the back four too much. But he's still a good manager - and in any case, what's the alternative? ****ing Dowie? Our form under him has been pretty good - inconsistent at times yes, but that's the same with every team in this leauge. If we don't achieve a PO place this season (and it now looks unlikely) then it will be because of the poor start we made under Sousa. But considering the circumstances of his appointment, I think it's fair to say Sven has done a good job. The real judgements can only start after he's had a full transfer window to work in.
ajthefox Posted 9 March 2011 Posted 9 March 2011 There are a few things that have amazed me about our fans and the reactions tonight. Firstly, anyone blaming Sousa for this should think twice. Of course he was bollocks, but Sven got us to 7th, just two points behind Leeds with what, 13 games left? Is it his fault we've done sweet fa right in our last 4 games? No. We were bound to hit a bad patch, but 1 point from 4 games is sub standard, regardless of who we played and where for a team of our quality. Some players haven't done well enough and I think Sven is partly at fault too having changed too much recently. Having said all that, this season has still been an absolute whirlwind and although very very unlikely, play-offs aren't impossible. I don't expect them by any means, but who knows what might happen. What we should take from this season is the positives. We've had an amazing season under Sven who I thoroughly believe will be here next season. The reason I say will is because it's not as if no-one else would have realised he was available. People aren't going to see what he's done with us and suddenly realise how good he is. He picked us. He picked our club and signed the contract and I am confident he will be here next season. Plus, Sven has a whole summer to establish a squad. He has a massive job on his hands, but thats part of the reason he came here. We might not see quite so much quality who knows, but one thing is for sure, we'll be up there. Now I didn't see tonights match, but I've seen and read absurd amounts of doom and gloom tonight but thats football, it doesn't always go your way. I'll be wearing my city shirt tomorrow come rain or shine with a smile on my face because thats what we should all be doing.
Raj Posted 9 March 2011 Posted 9 March 2011 The momentum is over. The belief is gone. The work ethics is non existant Mentally we are shot. Teams have found us out. There are a handful of teams who are on better form and will either stay in the play offs or get in them ahead of us. Its not over til the fat lady sings...but she's got her fat hands on the mic and is about to clear her throat...
CupidStunt Posted 9 March 2011 Posted 9 March 2011 The only reason the fat lady aint singing is because she has a bad case of tonsillitis For those that think we may still make the play off are dreaming 1 point from 12 is relegation form, never-mind promotion form I Love the enthusiasm and would love us to make it, but the party is clearly over Sven has put a clown in goal, and Oakley donkley back in the team, he has tinkered with a Winning side, something IMO a manager should never do. Weale had just found some sort of form, then gets dropped he then put Bruma in the middle of the park, and dropped Mee, just so he "wanted to see how it went" away to a decent Cardiff side = madness, that sort of shit is for reserve matches, and Vassell is now showing us the kind of striker he is..one that doesnt score many goals Sven is his own man, and makes his own decisions, but its starting to go tits up Here are the remaining fixtures: I am being very optimistic here, and that still only gives another 18 points We are 8 points off the play offs and Burnley have 2 frigging games in hand Do you really think the teams above us,are only going to get another 10 points before now and the end of the season? Scunthorpe v Leicester, 15:00 3 points Leicester v Portsmouth, 15:00 1 point Middlesbrough v Leicester, 15:00 1 point Leicester v Burnley, 15:00 0 points Leicester v Crystal Palace, 19:45 3 points Reading v Leicester, 15:00 1 point Nott'm Forest v Leicester, 17:15 0 points Leicester v Watford, 15:00 3 points Doncaster v Leicester, 15:00 3 points Leicester v Ipswich, 12:45 3 points I hope Sven is here next season, as i think he is the man to take us up, just a shame all that promise we had a few weeks ago,has gone out the window in a matter of 4 games It was always going to tough against Cardiff and QPR, we should have beaten Cov,and got a point at QPR, but we never And oh yeah, to top it off we played a Norwich side last night which Lambert described as the "Best he has ever seen them play" Bloody typical Its game ****ing over, and it sucks
