topharry123 Posted 17 May 2011 Posted 17 May 2011 If the stories are to be believed, Brighton are after Heskey, Owen, Beckham and Kevin Phillips. Which means that either they've had a massive influx of cash, or it's all bollocks. My guess is the 2nd option. Link to story below: http://www.bha.vitalfootball.co.uk/sitepage.asp?a=523287

Fox You Forest Posted 17 May 2011 Posted 17 May 2011 Probably just trying to raise the profile of the club to attract more realistic targets, is their Tony Bloom the poker player?
rico Posted 22 May 2011 Posted 22 May 2011 yet again proved he would be worth taking a punt on with the right deal
Nick Posted 22 May 2011 Posted 22 May 2011 yet again proved he would be worth taking a punt on with the right deal absolutely
ajthefox Posted 22 May 2011 Posted 22 May 2011 yet again proved he would be worth taking a punt on with the right deal I'm not sure the reason we don't have owen is because he isn't worth a punt...
rico Posted 22 May 2011 Posted 22 May 2011 I'm not sure the reason we don't have owen is because he isn't worth a punt... ...or because he was still contracted to Utd ?
acooling08 Posted 22 May 2011 Posted 22 May 2011 Owen playing and scoring for Man U today... WHY HAVEN'T WE SIGNED HIM UP YET?
Bugg Posted 22 May 2011 Posted 22 May 2011 Probably just trying to raise the profile of the club to attract more realistic targets, is their Tony Bloom the poker player? Yes
Carter The Boss Posted 22 May 2011 Posted 22 May 2011 Absolute load of cack. If rumours are to go by, Michael Owen will be lining up for the Albion alongside Emile Heskey, Kevin Phillips and David Beckham in a flash back to the glory days of Championship Manager 03/04. Hilarious!
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 24 May 2011 Posted 24 May 2011 Owen has missed two very good chances and a real sitter verses juventus tonight in a testimonial. Didnt even force a save. Not too much quality on show from him.
grth2004 Posted 24 May 2011 Posted 24 May 2011 Would love to see owen at leicester but i dont believe he would be giving his all in the championship and we would end up paying a lot of money in wages , if i had to choose between heskey and owen it would be heskey any day just because he would want to play for us and prove the doubters wrong.
Greg2607 Posted 25 May 2011 Posted 25 May 2011 Owen has said that he wants to stay at united after his contract is up in the summer. That in itself doesn't scream"i'm willing to drop to championship level".... (source was talksport this morning before I get asked!). Owen is a pipedream for LCFC and lets be honest, is never going to happen!! Secondly, it's an unsustainable pipe dream. Before the days of having players like Kamara and Yakubu at city, the ideology of a Michael Owen type figure is appealing. Now, I dont see it as that appealing a proposition. too many injuries, not enough games.
luckyalex13 Posted 25 May 2011 Posted 25 May 2011 he has scored 5 goals in 16 games this season for Manure and a lot of those games he will have been on the bench so another good ratio even if it is as bit part. I am sure he could be a great signing but i doubt it would ever happen
Alex Black Posted 1 June 2011 Posted 1 June 2011 Well that's that I guess. Oh well, was fun whilst the rumour lasted.
Jon25747 Posted 1 June 2011 Posted 1 June 2011 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/13594839.stm Michael Owen has signed a new one-year contract to stay at Manchester United. The 31-year-old striker, whose deal was set to expire, had expressed his desire to prolong his career at Old Trafford. "Delighted to be staying for another year. Thanks for all your messages," said the former Liverpool star on social networking site Twitter. Owen spent much of the season on the sidelines at United, behind Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Dimitar Berbatov in the pecking order. He was given a place on the bench for Saturday's Champions League final defeat against Barcelona at Wembley but only made 17 appearances during the 2010/2011 campaign, scoring five goals. Owen, who has made 89 appearances for England, joined United on a free transfer after spells at Real Madrid and Newcastle following his exit from Anfield in 2004. "Michael has proved to be a top footballer," stated United manager Sir Alex Ferguson. "It is unfortunate that he did not get more opportunities but the form of Hernandez put everyone in the shade and his partnership with Rooney proved invaluable. "I am delighted Michael is staying for a further year and we will look to give him more opportunities in the new season." The news casts doubt over the future of Bulgarian Berbatov, who, despite scoring 20 goals in the league this season, was not even on the bench against Barca. But Owen added: "I am delighted to have agreed a one-year extension and I cannot wait for next season to start. "To play alongside so many great players, under an exceptional manager and in front of so many passionate supporters is a real inspiration."
Jon25747 Posted 1 June 2011 Posted 1 June 2011 he is staying at man utd now. Thanks for clearing that up
mikeyp135 Posted 1 June 2011 Posted 1 June 2011 Yeah it probs is a total no go but it's nice to be linked with people like Owen I swear if in years to come one of my grandkids says "oh yeah Josh Low, did my research on him could have been a massive success" i'll actually disown them Oh and you made a great call about Scott Sinclair in one of your replies to someone.. I'd love him here and Sven's gone on record saying he's class, we need to make a cheeky bid for him in the summer depending on what league Swansea are in or us for that matter, keep the faith and all that.............cough, cough! Owen has just signed a new 1 year contract with man u, so we can forget the idea of Owen coming to Leicester
Jon25747 Posted 1 June 2011 Posted 1 June 2011 Owen has just signed a new 1 year contract with man u, so we can forget the idea of Owen coming to Leicester Have I missed something?! This has already been stated about 5 times.
Petchy Posted 1 June 2011 Posted 1 June 2011 Seems like he doesn't really have the heart for it anymore then, doesn't want to be more than an squad player.
Bryn Posted 1 June 2011 Posted 1 June 2011 In fairness to him he scored 5 in 17 this season, mostly from the bench, and he hit 9 in 31 the season before. 1 in 3 from the bench, that's not horrendous, I'd wager his salary is appearance and goal based and well within United's means, and I still think given a run in the first team he'd score goals - he won't get past Hernandez now though.
topharry123 Posted 1 June 2011 Posted 1 June 2011 Shame, it's obvious he doesn;t have the passion for the game he once had so not too bothered that we won't get him now. He must know that he will never be a starter at untied and will only play a few games, and that he could have played 40 games under other clubs. As I said it's a shame, but there's plenty more people that we can get who don't just want to sit on the bench and basically be gifted trophies.
