The Year Of The Fox Posted 3 April 2011 Posted 3 April 2011 Steve_walsh Yep, I certainly would rather have waggy than owen. Someone young with something to prove, who we know can score goals, OR someone who'd be here for a wage, with nothing to prove, and ultimately here because sven thinks its year 2002?

Webbo Posted 3 April 2011 Posted 3 April 2011 I would rather have someone who if (fit) would score between 20-25 goals to get us out of this league. That's a big if and he only might score 20-25 goals.
acooling08 Posted 3 April 2011 Posted 3 April 2011 I couldn't turn Owen down. However, the way out of this league isn't with superstars - it's with a good strong team of players who are proven at Championship level. Look at the top teams like Norwich.
Soar Fox Posted 3 April 2011 Posted 3 April 2011 That's a big if and he only might score 20-25 goals. Correct it is, but I just don't think with Sven here Waghorn will play for us next season as we all know he likes a big name.
Adster Posted 3 April 2011 Author Posted 3 April 2011 Correct it is, but I just don't think with Sven here Waghorn will play for us next season as we all know he likes a big name. I don't care what Sven does, as long as we have a successful campaign next season I'm happy.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 3 April 2011 Posted 3 April 2011 Owen wouldnt get 30 goals a season though. If anyone could guarentee that (or even believe that) then there'd no end of clubs breaking the bank to get players like him. I do care about what sven does to get us up. If we went up this season half our players are past it. He'd have to rebuild his squad again.
Stevosevic Posted 3 April 2011 Posted 3 April 2011 If you wouldn't want him playing for us i am confused. Not sure why people worry about wages, that's for the owners to worry about.
Cat Burger Posted 3 April 2011 Posted 3 April 2011 Steve_walsh Yep, I certainly would rather have waggy than owen. Someone young with something to prove, who we know can score goals, OR someone who'd be here for a wage, with nothing to prove, and ultimately here because sven thinks its year 2002? Ok, you have both of them in your squad, they're both fit, and you would pick Waggy over Owen? I bet even Waghorn would phone up the funny farm in that scenario. Kook.
Finnegan Posted 3 April 2011 Posted 3 April 2011 at this thread. One of the most natural goalscorers of a generation who, if he could stay fit for more than 4/5 games at a time would absolutely destroy this league and no-one wants him? If.
lcfc_jme Posted 3 April 2011 Posted 3 April 2011 You would turn down a fit Owen in this league?? he would have a laugh and would score for fun probs would end up with 30 goals.. I'd welcome this move completely, yes there's a question mark over his fitness but still Owen in a City shirt? worth the admission fee in itself I would turn down the current version of Michael Owen, yes. I posted on here a while back that he'd had it and was past his best (before he joined Man Yoo, I believe), and he has done nothing since to change that view. He would get absolutely kicked to pieces by defenders in this league, especially now he lacks that yard of pace which once made him feared. There's no way his glass legs could take that. No way. It'd be a pointless signing and it's one we should avoid like the plague. come on, we as fans were happy a few years ago with people like Josh Low signing or hard workers like Iain Hume and now we get linked with people like Owen, it's brilliant! And who knows what Sven potentially has in mind for the summer? he may want to go with a 4-4-2? No, fans in general may have been happy with Iain Hume, but everyone on here knows my views on that bloke. And despite those views of Hume, I probably would rather have him back here than Michael Owen. I'm not even joking. Seriously.
Guest Bilo Posted 3 April 2011 Posted 3 April 2011 No thanks, there's no way on earth he'd be able to take the rough and tumble of this league with his injury problems. Ability wise, he'd tear this league a new arsehole because he certainly knows where the goal is but I'm not sure how many more strikers we need to be honest. Yakubu, Vassell, Kamara and Waghorn for starters, and that's before a rapidly developing Schlupp has returned from his loan at Brentford and had a pre-season with Sven under his belt. I'd much rather Sven spend the money on giving this squad some depth in midfield and at the back with a couple of permanent signings than a marquee signing like this.
Guest Col city fan Posted 4 April 2011 Posted 4 April 2011 Differently rather put the money into getting proper well rounded top-class championship players, Howson, Sinclair, Grapham and Williams.
somebum Posted 4 April 2011 Posted 4 April 2011 Ive said this is a done deal the minute Sven arrived. Owen is a lazy wasteman and will manage 10 games a season at best. Best days a decade behind him now, we need hungry players, not someone like Owen.
TheUltimateWinner Posted 4 April 2011 Posted 4 April 2011 I'd love owen to be here, I'd sign him up anyday! Are we forgetting something here? MICHAEL OWEN. Just think a few seasons ago we were having orgasms over josh low.
somebum Posted 4 April 2011 Posted 4 April 2011 Then here is another name you might like: IWAN ROBERTS A proven goalscorer, he might have had it completely, but aren't we forgetting something here? IWAN ROBERTS. How about DEAN SAUNDERS? Completely past it, but come on, DEAN SAUNDERS
Ambitious Posted 4 April 2011 Posted 4 April 2011 I hope this is speculation and nothing more, the guy is injury prone and far past his best, if Sven wants a new striker then this guys the man
The Doctor Posted 4 April 2011 Posted 4 April 2011 Then here is another name you might like: IWAN ROBERTS A proven goalscorer, he might have had it completely, but aren't we forgetting something here? IWAN ROBERTS. yes! Also bring back guppy, 'droyd and Marshall, 90's MkII.
crisp monster Posted 4 April 2011 Posted 4 April 2011 He'd get kicked to death in this league and wouldn't last many games on the spin. It's horses for courses and we all know that a keeper and the back four need sorting out first. Tbh - and I'm not on the Sven out crap - I'm disapointed that we're such a poorly organised unit especially with Fazackely working with him.
Wymsey Posted 5 April 2011 Posted 5 April 2011 He'd get kicked to death in this league and wouldn't last many games on the spin. I agree with this. As this league is known for its high level of physical presence of players, it would be difficult for a player like Owen, due to him not being very strong physically, to score many in this league (as many would expect) as this league is quite underrated by many people.
harryboi72 Posted 5 April 2011 Posted 5 April 2011 never gonna happen though because he wouldnt drop down to this level and if we go up then we will be looking for better players
Unit Posted 5 April 2011 Posted 5 April 2011 pay as you play wouldnt be a bad deal Agree, that and the fact that Owen and Yak = SPAFFFFFF
ajthefox Posted 5 April 2011 Posted 5 April 2011 The physical thing would be a drawback but it doesn't mean he wouldn't score. Taraabt being a prime example of someone who isn't that strong, gets hacked at but has still done very well.

Yet he isnt good enough for Leicester City in the CHAMPIONSHIP? We are currently playing a striker who wasnt getting picked for his team.. just got another one who wasnt getting any games for his team... both from average at best prem teams.. a few yong lads who cant get games for the likes of Chelsea and Man City yet a striker who gets games for Man Utd isnt good enough for you? Do you realise how stupid that sounds?
