Guest Col city fan Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 Am I the only one who feels there to be a distinct lack of pace in the City side, particularly down both flanks. Last night's game was too methodical, too predictable and we attacked with too little gusto, giving their defensive players time to close us down and thwart our attacks. The City team is crying out for pace and I'm surprised that Sven doesn't favour Lloyd down the left wing. Dyer is pretty much a confidence player - give him a run in the team and I'm sure he will begin to muller full backs once more. This team needs pace in it - I'd play Lloyd Dyer every day of the week and twice on Sundays... Opinions please
thybluefox Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 I'd love to say yes, but IMO his final ball is rarely good enough.
Kitchandro Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 I'd rather have him (a winger) on the wing than Yakubu (a striker playing poorly) or Vassell (a striker playing poorly). We need a new winger in the summer, Dyer isn't consistent enough for this level. But yes I would be starting him at the moment.
lcfcsnow Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 Pace but what else? Why play a winger that can't cross or shoot.
Webbo Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 I thought we were crying out fora bit of width last night. I accept that Dyers final ball isn't the greatest but he's the only proper winger we've got.
STEVIE B Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 Pace but what else? Why play a winger that can't cross or shoot. Our crossing was awful last night and Gallagher apart generally is in most games

Wymsey Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 For this question, its a yes or no answer. Yes as he can be a threat (depending on the opposition) and no as he only does the same as Vassell does and his shots are woeful.
The Doctor Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 No - pace is useless without product and dyer just can't produce the final ball. Vassell and Gallagher are the right options on the wing - Vassell offers pace, trickery and a more significant goal threat while gally produces a good final ball and troubles the scoresheet.
Christoph Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 Our crossing was awful last night and Gallagher apart generally is in most games So we would benefit this by putting on another person on who cant cross... I like Loyd, he had a good season with Pearson but he hasnt looked the part this season at all imo
crisp monster Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 Not in my starting 11 but a good option on the bench Always seems to be more effective at the start and the end of a season when the pitches are harder and the ball spins off faster
Dylan Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 No - until he proves something. Yes he has a lot of pace, but his final ball is dire. He can't cross a ball to save his life, and he can't shoot. Don't know if its just me who feels this, but when he comes on as a sub (particularly yesterday) he 'hides'.. meaning he doesn't get into the game enough. Being fresh, he should be asking for the ball much more and looking to take the man on- what he should've attempted yesterday imo- we needed someone to be direct and ATTACK the opponent- run at them.

I like Loyd, he had a good season with Pearson but he hasnt looked the part this season at all imo that's not what i'm saying. Just pointing out we seem to struggle crossing the ball in open play. We need 1 or 2 new wide men. Dyer prob isn't one of them
Guest Col city fan Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 Got pace but nothing else Another player who, again under Nigel Pearson was consistently one of our best...

The Doctor Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 Interesting he's more likely to grab a goal than dyer.
Walshy5 Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 he's more likely to grab a goal than dyer. Vassell,s never actually scored for us whilst playing out wide.
The Doctor Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 Even though Dyer's scored more this season? - millwall, man city & reading against vassells doncaster, hull & swansea.
Corky Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 Dyer has also scored against S****horpe and Portsmouth in the Carling Cup- five to Vassell's three.
ScouseFox Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 Dyer would be a great option if he stayed out wide. He spent his 20 minutes last night stood in and around the D, he's fvcking useless there, get him hugging the touchline running at people. Then he's dangerous, until he has to kick it. He's a decent sub when on his game, but he's not good enough to start over Kamara/Vassell/Gallagher.
Jimmy Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 useless on the left as he doesn't stay wide and even if he did he can't cross. BUT he can be a goal threat from the right cutting in, his best performances this season have been on the right flank
Guest NGoloMode Posted 14 April 2011 Posted 14 April 2011 At the start of the season I would have said yes but with Vassell and Kamara now at Leicester and the form Gallagher is in I think he's best coming off the bench. Someone should tell him to stay wide too..
