First half we were just passing between our defence, which resulted in about 20 passes eventually coming to nothing at all, when we get in our final third. When we finally shot, we scored. Second half we were more direct, and it shows. Screamer from Bruma- absolutely quality strike, and a couple of good goals from Yakubu- shows you can get something when you put the effort in after chasing it down for his first, something he previously failed to do.

Bruma is clearly more comfortable in midfield than defence and the yak played like a man possessed after coming on - needs to start on the bench more often if that's the impact it has. and this can't be overstated enough - TUNCHEV!!!!!!!!! Welcome back lad, we've missed you. edit: and watfords "ultra" group are pathetic - clearly had no idea, as shown by the 3 grecques in 5 minutes after seeing L1 do after our first.
MC Prussian Posted 25 April 2011 Posted 25 April 2011 At the end of the day, this 4-2 win comes as a massive relief to me. We played really ineffective in the first half. Not bad, but ineffective. A fancy passing game that got us nowhere. Two shocking defensive errors allowed another tame visitor to the Walkers to take the lead twice. Watford had about two chances all game and accepted the gift from Naughton and Mee respectively kindly enough. Second half was very different, we seemed much more determined and kept the Hornets in their half for almost the entire 45 minutes. We do play attractive football, and when all cylinders are clicking, it's a beauty for the eye of the beholder. What we have to work on this summer is a steady, established defense. All in all, I'm very happy with the result. Seeing your team coming back from behind speaks for the character of the squad. Glad for Yakubu and Bruma to score twice each. Only letdowns from my perspective were King, who jogged around for large stretches of the game, missing a sitter in the process, as well as Wellens, whose passing was mediocre at best. The referee didn't convince me, either. Alongside his offside-happy linesman, too many fouls against Yakubu remained overlooked. Finish the last two games with the same effort and dedication and see us end up in 7th. This will prompt the Sven-haters to stage a massive suicide wave all around the country - or the start of a Jihad against Eriksson ("WE DIDN'T MAKE THE PLAYOFFS - KILL HIM!!")...? EDIT: Forgot about the Return of the Tunch! With 90+ minutes gone, he was waiting for about two out of the three extra minutes before he was finally allowed to join the team - it almost didn't happen...

themotivator Posted 25 April 2011 Posted 25 April 2011 a question to those who went to the game. how big a change was it for us when wellens went off? i like richie, but over the last few matches i have watched him, i have been less impressed than many others on here. he is forgiven a lot more than other players if he cocks up and i don't feel like he has battled with the energy we need at key moments. perhaps it was simply the introduction of an invigourated yakubu, but as bruma and darius said (in their post match interviews), our passing first half was not quick enough and surely this is partly RW's responsibility.

Gotta say well done to Bruma, but still don't think I want him back after the summer. Taking nothing away from us I think we won it due to Scott Loach's mistakes really. Really cannot wait for this season to be over and for next season to start now.

I'd say he's been huffing and puffing in recent games, tries a lot, but also fails a lot in the process. His passes have been going amiss too often in the past few weeks and his vision is clearly suffering. And yes, we did play much better without him today.

We were able to turn around a poor first half and win handsomely Shame it's too late but there you go.. The close season should be interesting Somehow we have to get some sort of consistency going. Ive said it before...when we are hot we are very hot, but this league is only won by consistently good performances and strong defences. If Sven can crack this we could be going places
Alf Bentley Posted 25 April 2011 Posted 25 April 2011 Just a tiny thought... Like most, I found the 1st half really frustrating - loads of quality passing, but no penetration. However, we did really move them around a lot during that 1st half... I wonder if some of our 2nd half dominance can be credited to that softening-up work in the 1st half? Would still like us to have more threat when dominating possession, mind!

FFS just look at where we were when Sven took over and where we are now. I really don't see at all in what way booing your team can help them ! Yes we did play crap first half, so what get behind the boys and encourage them not slate them !

Great support. Then when he scores 2 goals everyone's singing songs about him like they love him! ****ing unbelievable!!
