Ross_Spencer Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 The squad are having photo's today.. Maybe svennis wants to surprise everyone...... :sge: Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but Maynard may be uncovered at half-time: "There will be a lot of special entertainment before kick-off and another surprise event at half-time, which will bring a smile to everyone's faces. http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/story-13033946-detail/story.html
McFoxy Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/Sven-close-signing-striker-Leicester-City/story-13033989-detail/story.html Sven-Goran Eriksson says he is close to bringing in a striker as he adds the finishing touches to his promotion-chasing squad. City have confirmed the signing of midfielder Michael Johnson on a season-long loan from Manchester City. That takes Eriksson's total to nine new signings, and the City manager said there could be one or two more arriving in the next couple of weeks. Switzerland midfielder Gelson Fernandes, from French side St Etienne, is believed to be close to becoming the 10th arrival at the King Power Stadium. Eriksson said: "We want two players for every position and we have that with defenders and midfielders now. "We hope to get the same for the strikers, so we hope one or two more will come in." He added: "I hope we are close. There are different targets, but I hope that something will happen." Eriksson says that competition for places will be fierce this season, and he is expecting some players to ask to go out on loan or request transfers because of the lack of opportunities. "It is going to be very tough competition to be in the starting XI all season, especially in terms of the central midfielders now we have Johnson," he said. "But it is the same with the defenders. "It will be very tough. At this moment, if we sign Michael Ball and Aleksandar Tunchev (who are in contract talks with City), we have nine defenders for four places. "If we want to be successful, we have to have more or less two teams. "Of course, when you take in good players, it is more difficult for others to get minutes on the pitch. "Players want to play so, probably, in the next week there will be requests for going out on loan or changing club." Eriksson said he is hopeful Ball will sign a contract. Like Tunchev and Johnson, Ball has experienced two seasons of disruption because of injury but Eriksson said, if they could keep all three fit, they would provide quality. "In Ball, we are talking about another very experienced, very good player," said Eriksson. "If these players, Tunchev, Ball and Johnson, can stay fit, we have got experience and class in abundance. "When we do things like this we are aware of the (injury history) situation. Touch wood, let's hope they don't get anymore injuries." Eriksson said he was close to adding another striker to his squad. City have had three bids for Bristol City's Nicky Maynard rejected but have not given up on the 24-year-old, and there has been speculation a fourth bid, which includes Martyn Waghorn moving in the other direction, is imminent. However, Eriksson said he had more than one option. This was what I wanted to hear. He mentions Tunchev in the same sentance as ball and johnson as being class. I was beginning to think he didnt rate him too highly.

Man I wish birch would just **** off. Nobody gives a shit about your micky mouse university degree. I wish he would stop massaging his own ego through Leicester City. If people knew what 'the birch' was really like they would be repulsed.

Babylon Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 Care to elaborate on that statement??? I worked with him at city 14/15 years ago and I wasn't keen on him either. Gave off a 'creepy old letch' feel.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 Yes. I was told this morning that the bid went in Wednesday night. Up until then, they'd not heard much on the matter, just ramblings of what might be. fingers crossed for good news then

Met and had a chat with him in a pub in Quorn a few weeks ago and he was a good laugh (and got a picture with him too!), so not quite sure where you got the repulsed bit from. <_< A great ambassador for the club.

Quite often people's media persona's are their real behind closed doors persona's are completely different. I have met him away from the media spotlight numerous times, not a nice guy IMO.
MikeyT Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 Maybe Sven will announce the signing of Maynard before kick off tomorrow.
Bezzanator89 Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 Maybe Sven will announce the signing of Maynard before kick off tomorrow. Like he did with Jack Hobbs at the end of the League One season (I think?), you know, the time while Jack's confidence was up and was playing under the right manager for him. Edit: I know Sven didn't announce it, the Birch did.

I'm sure he was, but you are a fan in a pub remember...
Bezzanator89 Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 I'm sure he was, but you are a fan in a pub remember... I'm trying to see your point. You mean he was only like that because he was in a pub?
Darkon84 Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 Very much so... Quite often people's media persona's are their real behind closed doors persona's are completely different. I have met him away from the media spotlight numerous times, not a nice guy IMO. You should hear what he says about you
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 I'm sure he was, but you are a fan in a pub remember... ive seen him cycling around Rothley a few times whilst ive been in a works vehicle, always shout "a up Birchy" in a sad pathetic way out of the window at him, he usually replies okay?
psychonaut Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 Yo should hear what he says about you Probably thinks i'm cvnt but i'm not the ambassador of the club.

I have met him away from the media spotlight numerous times, not a nice guy IMO. He would often walk in, put his feet up on Paul Maces desk and ask the first female employee who walked past to fetch him a cuppa. I'm sure he's not a horrible person, he's just stuck in his ways. A dinosaur in a modern world where iffy jokes about women etc is frowned upon.
FallenAngel Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 OMG i cant quite believe this thread is turning into a debate about the character of The Birch
Babylon Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 OMG i cant quite believe this thread is turning into a debate about the character of The Birch As apposed to 75 pages of absolutely no news on Nicky Maynard. Think i'd rather talk about the Birch.
Guest Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 Man I wish birch would just **** off. Nobody gives a shit about your micky mouse university degree. I wish he would stop massaging his own ego through Leicester City. If people knew what 'the birch' was really like they would be repulsed. I knew him in the 70's and he was a pompous dick then. He seems to have humbled a little in the last couple of years but never liked the man and always preferred Keith and the other guys. No-one could put sitters over the bar like Birch.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 OMG i cant quite believe this thread is turning into a debate about the character of The Birch wonder what SGE is like "behind the scenes" maybe he is a bit of a womaniser aswell???
Jobyfox Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 "OMG i cant quite believe this thread is turning into a debate about the character of The Birch " This thread has gone from, speculation to desperation to mundane, ridiculous and now slanderous. I wish we'd just sign the lad or he'd just sign for Brizzle.
