ian_marshall Posted 7 May 2011 Posted 7 May 2011 No. When our midfielders had the ball he stood either behind a defender or with his back to goal, not looking bothered whether the ball came to him or not. When it did, he had 2 defenders around him, and with a lack of options I don't blame him for losing the ball or struggling to turn then, but what do you expect when you just stand still with your back to goal? You're always going to recieve the ball under pressure from defenders if you don't move into space beforehand. For Abe's goal he ran about 10 yards to the edge of the box, when it was a 2-on-1 and the hard work had already been done. You have completely overstated his part in the goal. He's missing a lot of chances, not one or 2. I'd say he's scuffed or blazed over about half of his chances. I'd have scored 11 with the chances he's had. So you think Yakubu will score 20 goals next season. Lets say he does. Wouldn't you prefer a striker who scores 20 goals AND does more for the team, making our all round play better and allowing others to score? Someone like Kamara, who's all round game has looked more impressive? Of course you would. You'll struggle to find an available striker in this league who is capable of scoring 20 goals a season and who contributes to the teams all round play. Ultimately clean sheets at the back and goals from midfield and the front players are what wins you games and gets you promoted. I believe Yakubu contributes to the latter so why do we need someone who works hard when in all honesty we would not be capable of bringing someone else to the club who averages better goals to games ratio?
Koke Posted 7 May 2011 Posted 7 May 2011 Yakubu will always divide opinions. Everton fans are even divided when it comes to Yakubu.
FoxyPV Posted 7 May 2011 Posted 7 May 2011 We've got the third highest goals for in the league (I think). Scoring goals isn't the problem - keeping them out is.
Corky Posted 7 May 2011 Posted 7 May 2011 A cracking end to the season- both teams played their part in an open game. First half we played well, though Norris should've scored and Weale made two important saves in succession, and we scored a good first goal, King nodding in from a Gallagher cross. Yak then added a second before Yuki got his long-awaited goal, lovely finish past the keeper. Second half we were at half-pace and let them back into the game, penalty then a dreadful back-pass from Van Aanholt for Wickham to score, thankfully Kamara notched a fourth to settle the nerves and the game drifted after that. Fabulous to see Tunchev get an hour, and he looked fine. Top scorers at home this season, the fifth time we've scored four in a game (plus five v Doncaster). Just need to tighten up at the back as we have the quality to score plenty. 10th is about fair for this season.
Craig Posted 7 May 2011 Posted 7 May 2011 Yakubu's workrate frustrates me sometimes, but his goals are worth it. I'd happily have him here next season.
MC Prussian Posted 7 May 2011 Posted 7 May 2011 An entertaining game and another one that summed up this season in a nutshell. We were almost as bad and as lethargic in the beginning as we were away at Doncaster last weekend. But then something snapped and we dominated Ipswich for the remaining twenty minutes of the first half, sleek passing and a brilliant move and cross from the left allowed King to head in the first. From then on, we were in cruising mode. Yakubu stood in the right place at the right time and profited hugely from King's shot that hit the post. 2-0 up. And to make matters worse for the away side, Abe gave everyone and most of all himself a huge present by scoring his first ever goal in a Leicester shirt. 3-0 up and you're thinking "That's it, they're doing it for the fans!". But hey, look what happens: Ipswich come out much more determined after the break and we're nowhere to be seen. There was a period where we granted them corner after corner after corner and no one dared to clear the ball properly. This lack of urgency was punished with the penalty. Their second goal reminded me of a similar mistake by Van Aanholt against Reading. That was purely idiotic. Sometimes, I get the feeling these young defenders take it for granted that our strikers do a fantastic job, only to neglect their defensive duties, something they're actually paid for to keep an eye on. If you look at it from another perspective, King could've had a hattrick today. Another shot saved by Fulop, falls right into the feet of Kamara, who was again ever-present. Game over. Literally. Didn't see us do a lot more after our fourth. As much as it hurts to see Vitor limping off with yet another injury, chuffed to bits to see Tunchev back in the first squad and he held up pretty well, too. Obviously, tackling will be a main point to focus on for him this summer. But he controlled his area totally, looked very composed on the ball, hardly let an ipswich player get past him. No idea why Vassell had to leave so early - knock to the head? The only player that did not really impress me today was Gallagher, who seemed to slow everything down on his side, instead of moving the ball forward. And I can't but slate Van Aanholt for his carelessness, no matter how good he is assisting in attacking, he needs to work on his defensive aspect big time. The numerous bloody backpasses also annoyed me - it's as if you're serving the opposition a goal on a silver platter. A lot of work is needed on our defensive behaviour, a steady back four is all I'm asking for. And a proper goalkeeper, although Weale had a very good game today, saving loads in one-on-one situations. Very likely trying to impress the bosses, trying to avoid getting the sack.
Haydos Posted 7 May 2011 Posted 7 May 2011 Yakubu's workrate frustrates me sometimes, but his goals are worth it. I'd happily have him here next season. Fooking hell, someone who acknowledges he has his faults but they are outweighed by his goal return.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 7 May 2011 Posted 7 May 2011 This result will be the start of a charge up the league into... bugger!
The Doctor Posted 7 May 2011 Posted 7 May 2011 i knew Ipswich would be shite on grass ................. "They've gone and scored, they've gone and scored, it must be snowing caus' they've gone and scored."
Prospero Posted 7 May 2011 Posted 7 May 2011 No idea why Vassell had to leave so early - knock to the head? I may be wrong but I thought this was a tactical change. Vassell was being muscled off the ball almost every time he went forward. Sven wanted a stronger replacement.
rico Posted 7 May 2011 Posted 7 May 2011 and every time i looked at Paul Jewell,i just imagined him sitting on that bed in his Derby shirt and stocking and suspenders!
Jon25747 Posted 8 May 2011 Posted 8 May 2011 Didn't know where to put this but I notice that after todays game, we ended the season by scoring the most goals at home. Quite an achievement! (and highlights our terrible away record)
Dan Posted 8 May 2011 Posted 8 May 2011 Fooking hell, someone who acknowledges he has his faults but they are outweighed by his goal return. No pun intended.
wacky Posted 8 May 2011 Posted 8 May 2011 I see Moreno was on the bench & again a un-used sub. That's a few times in recent weeks where he's had splinters in his arse! What I don't understand from a fan point of view is why have him on the bench if he is never going to be used. Might as well put a academy player on there for the experience! Do people view my point the same?

So that's 17 goals he's been directly involved in in 20 games. It's beggars belief this is.
bluesmithy Posted 9 May 2011 Posted 9 May 2011 Quite good. did he? When was that? And i'd say those cheerleaders were no older than 14/15. My mate knows one of the cheerleaders apparently the youngest is 17. must just look young. were they wearing the new away kit too?
the_fosse Posted 10 May 2011 Posted 10 May 2011 A match report with player ratings from Saturday’s game from a Leicester fan. Fair reflection? Personally think it’s a decent report, maybe a little over critical of our play. I thought we played some really good stuff throughout and were well worthy of the result. Defensive errors were annoying though. Report below: http://sportales.com/sports/leicester-city-4-2-ipswich-town/
