Bye Bye Robbie Neilson

Sven-Goran Eriksson has told defenders Robbie Neilson and Michael Lamey they should find new clubs.

The Leicester City boss said the time was right for the full-backs, who are still under contract, to look elsewhere and has given them both permission to speak to any club sides.

Scotland international Neilson and Dutchman Lamey found their opportunities at City limited under Eriksson, mainly because of the excellent form of Kyle Naughton.

Neilson made just one start and one substitute appearance under the Swede, while Lamey featured as a substitute just once, in the Carling Cup defeat to West Bromwich Albion.

Neilson finished the season on loan at Brentford, who are believed to be keen on signing him permanently, and Eriksson said it would be best for all concerned if the pair found new clubs.

However, the same does not apply to Bruno Berner, who Eriksson said he hopes to keep.

The Swiss left-back made just nine starts under Eriksson and slipped to third-choice behind Patrick Van Aanholt and Ben Mee, but he did sign a new one-year contract and Eriksson said Berner features in his plans for next season.

"I had discussions with Neilson and some of the players are looking for clubs for next season. They are allowed to do it," said Eriksson.

"I think Bruno Berner will start the season with us but Neilson is looking for a club, and Lamey.

"We had players last season who hardly ever played, or were very seldom on the bench.

"I think it is time for these players to move and, hopefully, create space for players coming in."

Neilson was signed by Nigel Pearson from Hearts in July 2009 and penned a three-year contract.

The 30-year-old made 32 appearances for City and scored one goal. He was the 1,000th player to appear in a competitive match for the club.

Lamey joined after impressing in a two-week trial last August. The 31-year-old made seven appearances for City.

Don't care for Lamey who I suspect only joined the club as a cleaner or groundstaff - he certainly isn't a professional footballer

and whilst I understand and appreciate Neilson isn't good enough for the level we want to perform at, he was capable back-up... It's going to be hard enough to not only replacing the 6 loan signings, but signing more players to improve some other positions without having to sign half a back-up squad as well.

I actually thought that Robbie Neilson at the beginning of the season was one of our best performers. (I do know that we were dreadful then) Therefore I do like the guy, however I do think maybe it is time for him to leave as he isn't in Sven's plans obviously.

Shouldn't we make sure we'd signed a new right-back before letting the only 2 senior right-backs at the club leave?

Granted there's still 10/11 weeks until the new season but that doesn't mean we are certain to get a new RB in before the start of the season - everyone we try to sign could tell us to **** off.

If we get desperate we can just do what Liverpool did with Aurelio, release them, not find any replacements, then resign them in August. Sorted.

I still cant believe we made the play offs with players like neilson - no offence, in the team 2 seasons ago. Pearsin worked wonders with that squad. Likes of micheal morrison, berner, neilson, danny nguessen, dyer, howard...its crazy that we got to where we finished and almost made it to wembley!
