Understand your point, but Konchesky is solid as anything at this level and knows the league inside out. Masilela would probably take time to settle, plus I have severe doubts over his defensive ability from the limited action I have seen of him.

2 very different type of LB's. 1 is a very attacking good ball at feet type, the other a excellent defensive mind left back. Both would be great to have for Sven to switch depending on his tactics for any given game.

Couldn't agree more, god us Aussie speak a lot of sense

With Berner submitting a transfer request last season cos he wasn't getting a game, i'm assuming Sven is looking at other back up options for what is a long season.

What a daft comment, why on earth would you judge any footballer on his race?

Saying we would become a battering ram of a team just because we would sign 11 blacks is a stupid as saying we would become like Spain if we went out and signed 11 catalunyans.

:frusty:

Sorry for making a light hearted joke, I'll refrain from it in future.

I am more disappointed that we will miss out on Masilela than CMS. Whilst I appreciate for different reasons, but I genuinely felt that this fella would have been gem.

Agreed, was a relatively unknown talent which could have worked out or failed, but was excited!

Sure he'd already passed the medical, it was just work permits... the African Nations would have been a miss though, I'm not sure we can allow for that in this season where Sven looks like he's building a team of Championship players who are either top performers for their club or who have already been promoted many times with other teams.

An enigmatic foreign player (maybe, I don't really know much about him) doesn't seem to fit this season's mould where hard work looks to be order of the day. I also wouldn't be surprised if we play a bit less of the one touch stuff

could still be coming as a left winger/wingback option should we revert to 532. would be similar for any move for clyne potentially?

I'm starting to question if this transfer will actually happen now, dragging on a lot longer than I thought it would. I understand it may be because of the work permit issue but that reason is only valid for so long.

I'm wondering if it is actually possible that he failed a medical. I hope I'm wrong.

Well him and Konchesky can both play in the full-back positions and be cover for the wide left position. Maybe Dyer will be used on the right side mainly next season. I'm also wondering whether Sven sees Ball mainly as a centerback, otherwise something has to give. Masilela, Konchesky, Ball, Berner all vying for the same spot and with Mee possibly coming in as well...

edit: Not to mention Schlupp who's being tested as full-back

Will be gutted if we miss out on him, even though it appears it would be through choice. Considering he would be a cheap loan with option to buy it makes good financial sense too as Konch is getting on. I hope, as normally is the case, that Stringer is wrong.

I could have sword his name was Tsepo the other day, that's what I've been calling him to all my mates.

I'm losing the plot.

He passed the medical.

But the work permit requirement may have been an issue, as well as his likely absence in the new year at the African Cup of Nations.
