cc_star Posted 13 July 2011 Posted 13 July 2011 Pissing off players? Really.... CMS - wanted more cash, wanted to be living in Brighton, wanted to be a big fish? Who knows for sure... Yak - wanted wages we can't break our structure for. Masilela - IF he doesn't come, it'll be because Sven thinks Konchesky is a bit option. Fair enough. There does seem to be some merit behind that point CMS & Posh seemed annoyed that we put the bid in, met with him, although Sven didn't but didn't follow it up for 10 days, during which time Brighton, who actually wanted him, signed him - meanwhile we missed out on him & the person we supposedly wanted more than him (Maynard). Would we have given CMS such a cold shoulder if we knew Brizzle were going to play such hardball with Maynard Mailela's management company said we've basically wasted 2 weeks of their time, for nothing Can't think of any other issues though and we don't even know what went off with the above two anyway
psychonaut Posted 13 July 2011 Posted 13 July 2011 Seems Sven is after players that have a large amount of experience in English football, particularly the top two divisions. TBH it's the safer bet, just not as exciting. Konchesky (if he pulls his finger out) should be one of if not THE best LB in the division. He was quality at Fulham. Over 350 appearances in PL. The Liverpools fans have had a bit of a laugh: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Konchesky
Liamlcfc1 Posted 13 July 2011 Posted 13 July 2011 Deal Off http://www.kickoff.com/news/22955/tsepo-masilelas-move-to-leicester-city-is-off.php KickOff.com has learnt that Tsepo Masilela's move to Leicester City is off. The Bafana Bafana left back has been in Sweden since Sunday as he hoped to put the finishing touches on a year-long loan from Israeli champions Maccabi Haifa. But with big-spending Leicester having announced the signing of Paul Konchesky from Liverpool on Wednesday morning, Paschalis Tountouris of Prosports International confirmed they will not be signing the 26-year-old former Benoni United player as well. "He's definitely not going to Leicester," Tountouris tells KickOff.com. "They just told us that Konchesky would be coming instead - it's a waste of two months' work but what can you do? There are some other things in the pipeline that we are looking at but we will be careful to make the right move for Tsepo." Masilela had been expected to sign for the English Championship side for a season-long loan after recovering from a serious knee injury in April. But with only a month until most European leagues begin their new campaigns; he may have to make do with a return to Haifa – recently linked with a move for his Bafana team-mate Katlego Mphela.
Wymsey Posted 13 July 2011 Posted 13 July 2011 Yes feel sorry for him, but we've got Konchesky who's proven at this level and has PL experience as well whilst we didn't know how good this Masilela chap was.
Number 6 Posted 13 July 2011 Posted 13 July 2011 As others have said, Konch is the safer bet even at a higher cost. It is arguably slightly less exciting though. As others have said, Konch is the safer bet even at a higher cost. It is arguably slightly less exciting though.
Cat Burger Posted 13 July 2011 Posted 13 July 2011 Wow. What a kick in the nuts for the lad. He signed another contract at his current club! He can't be that committed to a move to England in that case.
sdb Posted 13 July 2011 Posted 13 July 2011 He signed another contract at his current club! He can't be that committed to a move to England in that case. I got the impression that it was so his parent club would get a fee once the loan was over, rather than us getting him for free. It was all part of the deal between the 3 parties.

But Konchesky might aswell sat on the bench for this game. Should still cut it at this level quite easily though!
Happy Fox Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11712_7036083,00.html Tsepo Masilela's agent has slammed Leicester City for pulling out of a deal to sign the South African left-back on loan. Paul Konchesky completed his move from Liverpool on Wednesday for an undisclosed fee that is believed to have been around £1.5 million. But having flown to Sweden to link up with Sven Goran Eriksson's side for a medical, Masilela was informed that his year-long loan from Israeli champions Maccabi Haifa was off after Liverpool dramatically dropped their asking price for Konchesky. "The medical was OK and we were just waiting for Leicester to offer a contract," Masilela's agent, Paschalis Tountouris, told skysports.com. "But when Liverpool saw that Tsepo was going to sign, they reduced their price by 70 per cent for Konchesky. Unacceptable "The way they operated is totally unacceptable. Tsepo had his heart set on a move to England. "But Konchesky doesn't need a work permit, which was going to take 20 days for Tsepo, he is experienced in England and Eriksson knows him much better. "This is unfortunately the situation, but I don't think Leicester have dealt with this issue in the proper way." Masilela had been expected to sign for a year with an option to buy him from Haifa at the end of the season. But the 26-year-old will now report for pre-season training in Israel as Tountouris begins another search for a new club. "Life goes on and he will go back to Maccabi Haifa for now. I'm sure he will get a chance at another European club," he said.
Bezzanator89 Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 Questioning my Maths skills so technically wasn't Konchesky originally worth £5million then, if so £1.5million sounds like a steal. At the end of the day, Masilela was an unknown to most of us and who knows, Knochesky might be a good punt, have faith in our Sven. :sge:

Surely Liverpool weren't trying to make a profit on Konchesky
Bert Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 Conflicting reports yet again, but it's all down to the work permit. Sven wants as many people in pre-season that are going to feature. Not only can Konchesky do so, but he's also OUR player now. Sven has also worked with him so ge knows what he's getting as well as someone with years if English league experience. We may never know the full extent, but I trust Sven.

Fez of Mahrez Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 Boo hoo. If Masilela had suddenly received late interest from Liverpool then he would have buggered off there instead. This isn't a popularity contest. Nothing is confirmed until it's all signed and sealed, and our officials haven't talked about this player in public - his agent has.
John Matrix Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 i'd wager he'd be here if they hadn't tried to do that loan to buy deal.

Probably to get other offers coming in.

STUHILL Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 That's business I'm afraid and some agent complaining is a joke. They are like leaches! I am with Sven on this one. He looks determined to get his players in now and gelled ready for the season. Waiting on a player wasn't really an option and I love the fact Liverpool are supposed to have dropped there asking price by 70% (take that with a pinch of salt though) Would have like to have seen Masilela here as he had that unknown excitement but the head says Konceskey was the smart thing to do.

Exactly. If we'd have fvcked him over for no reason then fair enough but clearly something went on with Konchesky. Feel for the bloke but that's business.

Don't know what that agent is complaining about...this is a transfer market after all, and a market that they have made only more competitive. If we think we've got a better deal for a better player we're not sworn to anything until he signs a contract. This is the real world FFS not the school playground.
