Jeffrey Schlupp

Hey guys.. just wondering what you guys think to Jeff Schlupp. Been amazing at Brentford, but do you think he is capable of playing in our starting XI yet? Do you think he'll ever be good enough for our starting XI?

Looks extremely promising, and to go to a club on a short term loan and be banging them in like has done is pretty damn impressive!

Thoughts?

sven said in the interview he has plans for him and wants him involved in the full pre season so time will tell..

imagine he will only be used as a sub though for next season as can see sven signing big names who will be first choice

I'd be suprised if he gets more than a handful of substitute appearances next season given Sven's preference and unwavering loyalty toward misfiring old warhorses and the likelihood that the squad will be full of them next year. He'll probably be loaned off again and then sold in a couple of years. He's only 18, but is he really going to be a strong premiership player? If not then he won't make it at Leicester unless the wheels seriously fall of our owners ambitious push.

\there's no way of telling whether he'll be ood enough until he gets a chance, but he played well fror B'ford and he seems to be in all the German youth international squads (and they are the major youth force in Europe at the moment) so the signs are very good!

misfiring old warhorses? care to expand?

Because you can't mean Yakubu who fired in 11 in 20. Or Bruma, Naughton, PVA, Mee, Cunningham who have an average age of about 20.

I'd just like to know what you mean?

I hope he gets a chance, he did really well for brentford on loan scoring 6 in 9 but Sven will try and get more ex. england internationals and not try not young kids who have only played for brentford.

If Sven thought that, why did he give Schlupp (and a couple of other youngsters currently at the club) new contracts?

The facts don't bear out this thing people have about warhorses and ex-england players. Sven can in midway through the season and in the absence of good players available to buy loaned a number of players from top teams. The Yak is 28 (ahem) and scored more than 1 in 2 and Darius looked good when up front but we haven't had the midfield to play 2 up front. Aside from that most the loans were young guns with big futures ahead of them. Given that our first signing could be from Newport there is no evidence aside from merw speculation that Sven will not be giving players of all types a chance. I reckon Schlupp will get a few from the bench and might break into the team by the end of the season, but even if not I reckon the signings this year will be mainly young with some experience mixed in and will include some from below the Prem. If Schlupp plays like he did on loan then he'll have a big future under Sven.

Sven can't seem to win either way, if he plays inexperienced players and we fail to gain promotion he gets stick, if we play more experienced players he isn't bleeding the youngsters enough. I'm sure he'll integrate Schlupp in somehow.

Thing is though if we get promoted I can't see many moaning about not playing academy graduates.

Then again...

I'm talking about strikers and Vassell is who I was thinking of. Vassell seemed pretty much undroppable last season despite barely scoring a goal. With that in mind, and considering we'll probably sign at least another two strikers in the summer, I can't see how Schlupp is likely to be given much of a chance. I do think Sven will give games to young players he deems good enough to play at our target level, ie mid/top half of the premiership, and I know that we have no way of knowing yet if Schlupp is good enough, but if he is, he'll have to be the best player to come through our youth ranks in more than a decade. Do you think he's likely to be that good? I hope he is, but my brain says no.

Leicester City academy manager Jon Rudkin believes fans should not expect too much too soon from exciting young prospect Jeff Schlupp.

The striker caught the eye last season with his outstanding performances for the academy team in the FA Youth Cup, and the number of goals he scored attracted the attention of several clubs keen to take him on loan.

He was invited by manager Sven-Goran Eriksson to train with the first team before linking up with Brentford for a loan spell which included an appearance at Wembley in the Johnstone's Paints Trophy Final.

Schlupp, who was capped by Germany at under-19 level, scored six times in nine appearances for the Bees, and Eriksson has said he will train with the first team throughout their pre-season campaign.

To cap an amazing season, he was voted the academy player of the year just over a week ago.

However, Rudkin said City must be patient with Schlupp, and all their talented youngsters.

"It has been a wonderful start to Jeff's career but we have to be patient with young players, especially in the modern era," he said.

"Times have changed whereby young players' debuts come a little bit older. That is why they have to be patient and really work on the key aspects of their game so, when the opportunity does come along, they can take it."

Rudkin said there were several players who could have won the academy award after another excellent season.

"All the staff sat down and spoke about five or six candidates who could have all got the award," he said.

"But Jeff scored a number of goals earlier in the season and there were a number of clubs interested in taking him on loan. He had gone to Brentford and what a wonderful experience playing at Wembley is for a 18-year-old.

"We have had a number of good performances. George Taft represented England at under-19s and Adam Smith has been on the bench for the first team.

"All of them have to continue to progress now and keep their feet on the ground, and work hard over the coming seasons to get first-team recognition."

Looks at Sven's record at club level and even international level and it's proven that he likes to give youngsters a chance. It was him who played Michael Johnson and Daniel Sturridge at Man City. He also likes to take wild gambles on youngsters such as Walcott and to some extent Rooney when he was barely 17. Schlupp will be given a chance next season, but he'll need to be able to cope as we'll have 4 or 5 established strikers vying for a place too.

Sven likes pace.

Pace often means youth. We'll have a young team again next season, Schlupp is likely to get a chance if he carries on improving.

What does every1 think to him? In my opinion he should get a few 1st team games next season but can't see it happening

Never seen him. Sven doesn't seem adverse to youngsters and he's already been training with the first team.

Not sure trying to develop players with raw talent is the primary focus this season though.

Yeah I agree it's not the main priority but theres nothing better than finding and developing a little gem from the youth system. Saw him play a few games for brentford last season n he certainly has bags of confidence and pace. Oh well we will see if he gets a chance in the lower rounds of the cups

I think the main focus this season is to gain promotion, not really concentrate on the youth players, which kind of makes sense really.

I can see him being on the bench for large parts of the season if not going out on loan, his pace alone will scare defences.

I agree, pace like that is often most effective when used from the bench. I like what I have seen of JS and really think he will feature next season.
