Candidcamera Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 I remeber him very well. He has great engine and good passing ability. For those able to remeber Colin Bell he was always compared to him. It was on the cards that he would be picked for England. If we get him match fit he will be very good. I think he is potentially the one to watch of the outfield players bought in this Summer.

If there any resemblence to Colin Bell there's some hope at least. Any chance of us finding a Mike Summerbee too?

Happy Fox Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 Hopefully he will come into action soon, imo he will be that creative sparkle and provide opportunities for the front men
Rustyfox Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 he's undoubtedly talented, but if the lad still isnt fit and a bit overweight then maybe he doesnt have the motivation to get himself back to his best. would like to think lcfc had him working with nutritionists etc on a daily basis to get him into shape. Shame we dont have regular reserve games to put him in.
Fox92 Posted 19 September 2011 Posted 19 September 2011 Sven confirmed on an interview that Johnson will almost certainly start against Cardiff on Wednesday.
Joe. Posted 19 September 2011 Posted 19 September 2011 Sven confirmed on an interview that Johnson will almost certainly start against Cardiff on Wednesday. Good to hear. I genuinely think he could be one of our most important players when he's back on form again. Top player if he's right for it.

Yes I think you maybe right. If he can become the player we all saw at Manchester City, I have no doubt that he can become a top Championship midfielder this season. Before he got injured, I recall him being on the verge of an England call up.
Nick Posted 20 September 2011 Posted 20 September 2011 What's his preferred position across the midfield? How will he fit in and who will be dropped?
Ric Flair Posted 20 September 2011 Posted 20 September 2011 What's his preferred position across the midfield? How will he fit in and who will be dropped? He's a central midfielder but he can roam like fook. Very much a Mark Davies type player. On saturdays showing, Ritchie Wellens place will be in threat as Abe, Fernandes and King were far more accomplished in their roles.

I dunno with all these new midfielders he's the only incumbent that hasn't missed a single minuet of League football this season, for some reason Sven loves him
Dr The Singh Posted 20 September 2011 Posted 20 September 2011 I dunno with all these new midfielders he's the only incumbent that hasn't missed a single minuet of League football this season, for some reason Sven loves him I felt his performance to be poor on saturday, he looked leggy towards the end aswell, hopefully Johnson will be able to challenge him and possibly bring the best out of both of them!!
m00nie Posted 20 September 2011 Posted 20 September 2011 hes here for the season and so its not going to take him all season to get match fit.. once fit he has the potential to be one of the best midfielders in the league so could turn out to be a great move..
Jimmy Posted 20 September 2011 Posted 20 September 2011 I hope thats the case but Wellens seems to have fooled a number of people into thinking he's indispensable
Dr The Singh Posted 20 September 2011 Posted 20 September 2011 I hope thats the case but Wellens seems to have fooled a number of people into thinking he's indispensable SOme poeple may think that, and last season he was good at times, but I don't rate him as some, and I think with the players we have in midfield, no one is indispensable!!!!! Sven obviously is the one who makes that decision!! Roll on wednesday!!
artursteppe Posted 20 September 2011 Posted 20 September 2011 As many will know, I am one of Richie Wellens biggest critics, but he has played better so far this season than at any time before. However it must be him at most risk to lose his place. Now that Andy King has just had his best game for far too long, he will be above Wellens, as well as Yuki Abe, Gelson Fernandez and very soon Michael Johnson, with Neil Danns competing strongly as well.
Fox92 Posted 20 September 2011 Posted 20 September 2011 When Nugent comes back, is Sven going 4-3-3 again with Vassell -- Beckford -- Nugent up top? If he does do this, then I'd like to see Wellens -- Johnson -- Abe/King/Danns in midfield.
Corky Posted 20 September 2011 Posted 20 September 2011 Johnson, Danns and Dyer all in with King, Wellens and Fernandes not starting.
Nick Posted 20 September 2011 Posted 20 September 2011 I'd like to see him (MJ) play before making a formation suggestion. I've watched Wellens' have great games and poor games like any other player. Thing is, so much stuff goes through him. He may not be flamboyant but doing the sensible and the 'right' thing so often makes him appear under-rated or not noticed but I do think he contributes well to our long periods of possession and also is a good tackler - something our midfield needs. Tough call.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 20 September 2011 Posted 20 September 2011 Pretty off topic - Have we got an option to buy Fernandes? I bloody hope so.
Nick Posted 20 September 2011 Posted 20 September 2011 Pretty off topic - Have we got an option to buy Fernandes? I bloody hope so. Not that I know of mate, just a season long loan - though I reckon we could buy him as I'm not sure he has a future at St Etienne.
