Bettsy82 Posted 12 August 2011 Posted 12 August 2011 Any forest fan that believes they will be up there this year are way off the mark. Everyone of mclarens signings are questionable ones Reid has past it and clearly isn't good enough, greening looks a good signing now but the age thing as the season goes on will play a massive part, Boateng is a terrible signing too old and past it, Derbyshire is another laughable signing completely the wrong type of player for the championship and miller who is a big lump who can't finish for shit
RedHux Posted 12 August 2011 Posted 12 August 2011 Greening is 32 which is fine for a holding midfielder and so far has been pretty bloody ace. Andy Reid is 29 so clearly not too old and his final ball is infinitely better then anything we've had in recent years. Boateng is pretty much shot but is a decent enough squad player and he's not box to box so his fitness isn't really an issue. Derbyshire I don't know too much about but would be interested to hear how he's the wrong type of player for the championship. We've replaced players with players who are better then those who left. This is, in my eyes, a good thing.

RedHux Posted 12 August 2011 Posted 12 August 2011 I think we have. Billys away record was awful. A few more points away from home and who knows what would've happened last year. Also his frankly bizarre selection in the play off second leg wasn't exactly helpful. Obviously SM has only just arrived but on paper he's a better manager, the players seem to be responding, and he's able to attract decent enough players. So far so good really.

He's not bald Posted 12 August 2011 Posted 12 August 2011 Strong rose tints on those glasses! And it'll be raining in southeast London tomorrow! Brolly anyone?
foxes2011 Posted 12 August 2011 Posted 12 August 2011 i am actually one of the people that tends to like mcclaren, everyone else seems to hate him , i was behind him for england because i thought he might have learnt something of fergie but i guess i got that one rong, i think the england team is very overated and we should not get on the backsof the managers, some times i think its the overpayed players most of the time. as long as leicester are up there i actually would mind forest also up though even though they are rivals i think the hate thats come into the game is a bit sick. one of our greats neil lennon got treated like a right mug in scotland by some football freak huligans and its just not right, for god sake i know we are all footy crazy but there is a line that fans should not cross
Bettsy82 Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Strong rose tints on those glasses! Obviously I hate forest with a passion mate. But I just think this season they are gonna end up being a joke there signings have been awful and in mclaren they have a manager who for some reason thinks he deserves legendary status. He has failed a lot more than succeeded in his career.
Bigdurk Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Is this ignoring the fact that forest have pretty much the same squad that has finished in the play offs the previous two seasons..earnshaw being the only notable exception...

Boro most successful manager of all time and did well with fc twente. He's ok at this level. that said the trees will be nt be top 6 this year.
RedHux Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Is this ignoring the fact that forest have pretty much the same squad that has finished in the play offs the previous two seasons..earnshaw being the only notable exception... This is true and of those who have left we've replaced the key ones with better players. That said, I'm of the opinion the NPC is stronger this year then last.
Bettsy82 Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Only time will tell. Personally don't think mclaren will be manager at forest next season.
Tielemans63 Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Don't think Andy Reid is a poor signing - yes he's a fat lazy custard but he has quality that few have in this division. Greening is a decent signing but bringing in George Boateng is laughable - the guy was shit when he was good.
RedHux Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Boateng has looked both imperious and utter tripe so far and we already have Moussi who does that role rather well. But you're right about Greening and Reid, although Andy was dog shit in the week he's always likely to play a superb killer ball at any point. In general I think Forest fans are quietly confident of a repeat of last years position.
patallsop16 Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Fourth_Official Fourth Official Ishmael Miller has agreed a 3 year deal at Nottingham Forest, a fee of an initial £1.2million will be payed to West Brom #NFFC #WBA
Zingari Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Forest look to be assembling a formidable team , they'll be up among the challengers no doubt
phildw Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Forest look to be assembling a formidable team , they'll be up among the challengers no doubt That's because the signings have been patient and thought through with a real link to the tactics and way the team want to play ................... rather than getting as many new players as you can regardless of any link to how we might play. Its always been quality not quantity

phildw Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Yeah because Sven has very little experience of assembling teams. from the game i'm watching today i'd seriously question he's got any clue about assembling a f....cking team! But hey lets put it down to 'first game nerves'!!

But hey lets put it down to 'first game nerves'!! With so many additions (which were needed to be fair), it's bound to take a bit of time for things to click into place. Sounds like we're not playing great, granted, but i'd expect a big improvement second half.
