He is on the list but no bid has been made, Long is for now svens number one target, and the last number one target was Mat Mills and we got him!

maynard??

if we pulled out the CMS deal as people are saying and the 3 bids in for him i imagine he was a number 1 target..

we didnt get him though..

I don't know why everyone doesn't like the prospect of him coming. He's obviously a good player otherwise we wouldn't have tried to get him last year and champions QPR wouldn't have got him and played him.

Agreed.

I think maybe some fans are starting to let our spending go to their head a bit. Long and Maynard are (quite rightly) waiting for Premiership clubs and don't want to come here, but people seem to think that we should automatically be signing players of that calibre just because we have the cash. This isn't Football Manager.

Miller is a good solid Championship striker who will add pace and power to an attack that currently lacks both. He'd be an ideal signing.

I honestly don't think he is good enough for our promotion hopes. He would probably be alright as an impact sub (maybe replacing Howard if he goes), but we definitely need another, proper, striker in the likes of Long/Jong territory.

Yeah, go for it Sven! Another good link, one who for me has his best years to come. Hell, if he played a big part in getting us promotion and continued to shine, Miller is one of those players I think could play for England one day.

He hasn't scored many goals in his time, we will definitely need a goalscorer alongside him if we get him.

I'd like to think this transfer is "as well as" rather than "intsead of"

He's a big lad, still young. Maybe its with a view of being a long term replacement for Howard :dunno:

I think that compared to maynard and Long, Miller is much better value. Although Long scored twenty goals last season, buying him would still be a gamble due to the high transfer fee that reading are holding out for. This season we will create a lot of chances, so im sure Miller would be another good option to have, he has the potential to score twenty goals if he stays fit.

It could be that he's been our last resort for ages after all there was a bid accepted for someone at the start of last week - we've been forced to act because the Trees have had a bid accepted as well. I guess Svennis how likely it is we'll sign Long or Maunard and has to decide if he really wants IM now.

I wouldn't mind him here tbh, reminds me of a young Heskey. Quick, powerful etc. he doesn't score a lot of goals granted, but there's no reason Nugent can't get 15-20 goals this year, he got 14 last season in a poor Pompey side playing on the left of a three pronged attack. Andy king will get into double figures again, as will Gallagher. Add to that with Danns who will chip in with a few, aswell as Mills, who always seems to pop up with about 5 goals from set pieces. We'll be fine!

Exactly scoring goals was not a problem last season, it was the amount of goals we conceded we have rectified that now with a solid defense and goalkeeper, all we need now is a striker and we are ready to go :scarf:

Yep, I agree with you there, we scored loads of goals last year, and didn't have one player who got more than 20! Top goalscorer was Andy King, who got 16 IIRC, we have goals from all over the pitch, which is better than having one player that the rest of the team relies on.

I had a feeling Sven would go back for him after expressing an interest last season.

Surely the £2million fee has to be questioned based on this:

a) After successful loan spell WBA sign him for £1.4 million (end Jan 08)

b) December 2008 gets cruciate ligament injury after scoring 6 goals

c) Makes return Jan 10 scores 1 goal and goes on loan to QPR and scores another goal in 10 around 10 appearances.

The point being made is that they think his value has gone up based on a serious knee injury for which he is out for a year, him being 2 years older and a falling strike rate and mostly substitute appearances.

We should not be paying anything over the £1.4 million.
