That lad from Japan Posted 11 August 2011 Posted 11 August 2011 Before anybody has a go at me, I fully support Sven and the players hes bought to the club but I feel slightly let down by the situation regarding a striker. The defence has been sorted out and we now have real quality there. In january sven identified the need for a goalscorer and found yakubu who did score goals but only on loan. We had the chance to turn this into a permanent deal but refused to pay the wages. We then chased Maynard but never offered the cash to get him. We jumped on the Shane Long bandwagon too late despite claiming he was a target for the whole summer. We made one bid for JTS but gave up after it was rejected. We now have a situation where we're scratching around for a striker and have RK seemingly as our only target( i dont know this but thats as it appears). Its looking like we should have took Yakubu and paid the wages which would be worth it if weve got PL football next year. Sven keeps saying we're trying and talking but I see no actions. If maynard ends up at Soton then questions will have to be asked. In this fiasco we a appear to have shot Waghorn so now our only real CF option is Nugent who although is very good as a player he wont score 20+ goals. Defoe did however say a couple of weeks back he wanted a loan move if he didnt play the first few games, maybe we're waiting on that
cc_star Posted 11 August 2011 Posted 11 August 2011 Good points, but remarkably similar to the conversation in this thread http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=75435

If Sven thinks we need a striker, we'll get one.
LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 11 August 2011 Posted 11 August 2011 who needs another Striker when we have Schlupp
Ali_Mauchlens_Tash Posted 11 August 2011 Posted 11 August 2011 You seem to refer to a lot of situations as known fact. We don't know what all the facts are. Opinions on the yak were divided....personally I wasn't a fan. I also don't get the obsession people have with the "20 goal a season" phrase. Last time I checked the rules it wasn't mandatory for a team to have one of those in order to enter the prem. With likely rotation, and likely 4-5-1 formation for a lot of the season, even if we were to bring in a new top class strikers then your probably looking at a 66% strike rate, so would need someone of the class of defoe...but to think he would entertain leaving the prem for us is living in dreamland.
sdb Posted 11 August 2011 Posted 11 August 2011 I'm sure if any club has a bid accepted for Maynard (at least from our league), his agent will let us know, with the money we have at our disposal. Surely BC will then have to accept a matched bid. NM is still my preferred target - a pacey, mobile striker who is a natural finisher. Schlupp may be able to fill the void at times but for 40+ games at 18 years old, I doubt.
LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 11 August 2011 Posted 11 August 2011 you also need to think that IF Bamba leaves, we need another centre back!

Southampton are in the driving seat for around £6m I'm not sure that we even upped our £4.5m to £5m bid It seems all our eggs are in a Robbie Keane shaped basket, And to people saying - if Sven wants, Sven will get, I'm not so sure. He wanted Yakubu and had a £3.5m offer accepted, but we didn't want to pay Premiership wages He's wanted Derbyshire, but then cooled on him He wanted CMS all the way up to the point he was putting pen to Brighton letter-headed paper He then wanted Yakubu again and put in a £4m offer He wanted Long... that one was understandable though He's wanted Maynard all summer long, pretty much his number one target and the odds are on him joining a just promoted team. ----------------------------------------------------------- Seeing as this duplicate thread is going to stand I'll restate the point I made there Probably losing out on our long term no. one target (Maynard) to a promoted team, just after we lost out on a preliminary target (CMS) to another promoted team... Great stuff! Yes, we may have stuck at around £5m, where £6m looks likes what it would take, and whilst it's good we're not held to ransom, but will we regret not forking out that £1m come the end of the season? Secondary to that there's lots of buzz that S'ton won't be stopping at Maynard and plenty more will there within the month... This division just gets tougher and tougher. I know a lot of people's reply will be: Schlupp And I see their point and in part agree, but a forward like Maynard who is heads & shoulders one of the best players in the division will make a big, big, big difference over 46+ games
Happy Fox Posted 11 August 2011 Posted 11 August 2011 I don't buy this crap, Sven is not daft neither are the Thais, we will get a striker whoever that is we will get one
Jon the Hat Posted 11 August 2011 Posted 11 August 2011 Maynard may prefer to stay in the South. I would.
Dr The Singh Posted 11 August 2011 Posted 11 August 2011 Maynard may prefer to stay in the South. I would. I want to move to the south, hopefully I will find a job and move down soon!!! Sven has a massive list of strikers written on his cock, and has vowed not to rub it off via sex or bathing untill he has found his striking duo!!!
blueredswed Posted 11 August 2011 Posted 11 August 2011 who needs another Striker when we have Schlupp   One game is NADA! Two games is good (3 goals)? Three games is premier with 2 goals. Sooo we wait and see :scarf:

Whether on not we do/Sven does who knows. £6 mill for NM is better than £5 mill for Keane though, i'm confident of that.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 11 August 2011 Posted 11 August 2011 who needs another Striker when we have Schlupp   even with the Schluppinator i think we need one more forward?
topharry123 Posted 11 August 2011 Posted 11 August 2011 Let's wait and see what happens until the end of the month. Right now we're 2 for 2. Granted one was against rotherham, but still we've won 2, scored 5 and conceded an own goal, while having average first halfs and dare i say it pretty superb second halves. I must admit i've called for a 20 goal a season striker, however right now we could easily have 2 already. Nugent can play at this level, he's proved he's more than capable. With the good service he is sure to get he could easily bang in 20. And let's not forget Schlupp. He may not play a lot this season, but if he can be a good impact sub then he can score double figures I would say. As i said let's see where we are at the end of August. If we've lost our next 4 and scored 2 goals and not brought in a striker then yes I would be annoyed. But if we have picked up 10-12 points and scored 8+ goals then if we've brought in a striker or not i'll be happy.
Tomassi Posted 11 August 2011 Posted 11 August 2011 Why are some people panicking... we've won 2 from 2?

You're right, but he wasn't for sale then. chairman statement said so which isn't forthcoming this time. Of course not for sale means offer more and we'll talk. Although I suppose we had £7m last week for Long, so the fee at 6ish wouldn't be an issue Rumours? Maybe, but apart from Routledge Fourth Official hasn't been wrong (and that was because it appeared to be Routledge's agent (probably his source) pitching the move to us to drum up interest or get a slice of the thai money for himself Why are some people panicking... we've won 2 from 2? Fool We want 3 wins from 2

ronnup Posted 11 August 2011 Posted 11 August 2011 You feel let down? Let down?? Astonishing, the most support we've had financially for years if not ever, signing after signing of quality we thought may never return, and winning games with an ex England manager who's won Serie A. Let down? You clearly don't remember Stoke on the last day of the season or the sell out game at home to Wednesday a few years a go. That's let down.
Messi Posted 11 August 2011 Posted 11 August 2011 The strikers we are being linked with are getting worse, why is everyone panicking I'm sure Sven knows who he wants. I would like us to sing Noel Hunt, surprised nobody else has mentioned it before.
