Guest Col city fan Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 Dropping the club captain after one poor performance sends out all the wrong messages to the player, the other players and the fans... Sven should have stuck by mills tonight and motivated him to get straight back onto the pitch, roll his socks up and deliver a captains performance. Would allardyce have dropped Nolan after one bad game? This suggests to me that Sven and mills do not trust each other which, I would suggest, could have a negative effect on the dressing room. Rumour has it that St ledger has been kicking up a stink this week and it appears that he has been rewarded by a place in the first team.. IMO this is shocking management. The club captain needs to feel he is trusted by his manager and can then begin to lead the side on the pitch Opinions please cos im bewildered?
John Matrix Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 i don't think he should have been dropped, especially after sst's performance. now they're both low on confidence.
DanTheFox07 Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 Doesn`t matter much because Mills will be straight back in the team on weekend after the way maynard raped ledger 2nite! don`t think he`ll have too much to say now!
Yojoe36 Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 Bad call by Sven IMO. It's really bad for Mills as well. Will have a negative effect on him and the squad,as he's suppose to get to know how his team mates work. The captain should know his team mates. Very bad
Guest MattP Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 Agreed, just cannot understand this at all. Total agree what you say about respect between captain and manager. £5million, make him captain, dropped after one bad game.. Absolute Madness.
Marmite Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 Dont panic St Ledger was worse! He made one mistake, granted it was a costly one but other than that he did not play too bad at all. As for Mills i was shocked he was dropped after one game, I bet the owners are well pissed off spending 5 million quid on him for Sven to sit him on the bench !!
dave_the_fox Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 Opinions were different before the game.....

He made 1 mistake, yes, it cost us a goal but last Saturday mills was shit for 90 mins and let the crowd get on his back! At least st ledger kept his head up and tried to get us back in the game! Wot about all the shots Gallagher fuc*ed up and challenges he backed out off??!
Ross 'LCFC' Turner Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 Stupid decision by Sven. Dropping a player for one bad game is ridiculous, we need to be getting a stable back four and not chopping and changing, has sven not learnt anything from last season?? Mills will be low on confidence now, SSL will be low on confidence after his mistake. Who plays saturday then??
Mack Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 He made one mistake, granted it was a costly one but other than that he did not play too bad at all. As for Mills i was shocked he was dropped after one game, I bet the owners are well pissed off spending 5 million quid on him for Sven to sit him on the bench !! Sorry but that's not true. He was also to blame for the penalty and for putting pressure on the team with mistakes and bad passing throughout. He had an absolute shocker.
Finchy Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 One thing we shouldn't be changing is the defence.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 Mills had a bad game, but who better to get his confidence back than against a poor Bristol side. People go on about 'gelling' and how they need time, well dropping Mills didnt do that. Cant have done Mills any good at all. Another ppor, and questionable decison by our apparantly great manager.
LcFc_Smiv Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 St Ledger, only one mistake? His passing was poor constantly putting other players in trouble, that or he smashed it at them. There was one point where the team seemed to be content with playing the ball past St Ledger and straight to the keeper, almost as if to keep themselves out of trouble. He missed key tackles and headers that put us in different positions and for me this is the second time together that Bamba's performance has also been worse than normal. Could see that mistake coming from a mile away, and when Mills didn't appear after half time, it was going to be a long 45 minutes.
kingfox Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 Blah blah blah. He was dropped because his confidence was knocked, St Ledger stepped up to the plate and played very well but made one mistake. Yes his passing was woeful 1st half, but 2nd half he played with confidence and improved dramatically as the game went on. From comments tonight it seems most of you went after he made his mistake. St Ledger was far better than Mills against Reading end of.
DanTheFox07 Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 think everyone is missing the point here! who do we rate as a better player? also he was made our captain! negative statement to the team no matter what. Poor decision by Sven in my opinion!
Guest Col city fan Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 think everyone is missing the point here! who do we rate as a better player? also he was made our captain! negative statement to the team no matter what. Poor decision by Sven in my opinion! Yes they are missing the point, surprise surprise... I'm not comparing how mills and St ledger have played in the two respective games... The point remains that making a player skipper one week, dropping him the next shows no relationship existing between the two and reflects ridiculous management skills or, in this case, lack of them
accessory Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 It's another shocker from Sven, on a par with giving Abe a starting place against Reading when he was clearly in no fit state to play. This was a chance for Mills to rebuild his confidence. Instead it lies in ruins, as does that of many others in the current squad (Waghorn being the most notable example). It's happened way too often during the manager's time with us to be a coincidence.
Tuna Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 For ****'s sake bring back the Tunch he's the best centre half we have.
themotivator Posted 17 August 2011 Posted 17 August 2011 are people assuming that it as as simple as sven walking up to mills and saying. "you were a bit shit on saturday werent you millsy. your dropped" im sure sven intended to include SSL at some point soon anyhow and now may have been seen by sven and maybe even mills to give him a chance. how do you know mills didnt suggest that SSL had a crack. maybe he's been better in traning. maybe mills needed some time out after saturday. I dont know and neither do you. i also agree we need consistancy in our back 4. we will get this sooner or later. we have a lot of new players.

Freeman's Wharfer Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 Opinions were different before the game..... Exactly. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. This thread wouldn't exist if we won and St Ledger hadn't made the mistake. As I said in the post-match thread, it's not one bad game, it's three. The guy has offered nothing so far. For me, dropping him sends out the message: I don't care who you are, what we paid, if you've worn the armband or not: you play that badly then you won't be playing next week. Is that a bad thing? If this guy's such a Walsh-type, natural leader that some claim he is then surely he'll relish a challenge such as that? Signing for Leicester now is a much different proposition to before. You're now earning big money, joining a big squad where competition is rife. As Wellens said before the start of the season, the aim should be to get in that team and stay there. There are so many people that can take your place now that you have to be on it to get that shirt. Luckily for Mills, St Ledger made that mistake tonight. In the next few days in training it'll be up to them both to show what they're made of to see who gets the shirt for Forest. An example: do you think that Pantsil or Peltier have been told that they're the first choice? No. They've both been offered the chance to join a squad with big ambitions and, with two players in each position, they're going to have to win their battle for the right back spot. At the minute it's Peltier but, as he will know, if he has a stinker Pantsil will be right in there.
LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 I think he shouldn't of dropped him, I mean yes he was poor but, wasn't most of the team? probably Sven saying if you do bad then your out
RizLCFC Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 Tge way he's treating the players is ridiculous, I feel they're playing with fear of being dropped and uncertainty which is causing them to perform poorly. Fear can be a good thing for footballers in terms of competition for places, but in this instance I think it's having a negative impact on the players. So Mills comes back in to the squad v Forest, what if he makes an error? Is St. Ledger back in the game after. Its a total shambles! Sven needs to trust the players and give them faith in their own ability. I'm not hating on Sven, I still think we will do well this year!
