Waghorn - where to?

I just don't think he fits the current system, his performances have been pretty awful but I think he may have some value in a better system, you can't go from being so good to being so bad like he has.

Jeez, he's only 21 and not been here that long and we want to get rid. Any other 21 yr old would be given some more time.

I agree with Father Ted that maybe he has spent too much time down the gym and we saw what happened to Owen when he did that (NOT comparing him in terms of ability to Owen by the way).

Also agree with the others about a short term loan (3 months to get his eye in - clause that he HAS to play). Then if he is parp with someone else we can sell in Jan... If good, we bring him back.

Any amount of "sharpness" won't make up for his appalling first touch. I feel so sorry for the lad, but he's not good enough.

Agree. We've paid well over the odds for a very average player. He did ok under Pearson where the play was very predictable, everyone had clearly defined roles and we essentially played table football (rigid rows of play). Under this style where we are expected to be slightly more fluid in terms of positioning and movement (to very limited success it must be said) he sadly just isn't up to it.

Every now and then, when you get a regime change ( or two!) a player for whatever reason is not able to fit into that new style of play the new training methods or just doesn't posses the abilities that the new manager wants to base his formation and tactics on.

Now is that regime and Waghorn is that player.

I loved the guy when he first signed for us...

But it makes no sense to have a 2-3m young promising striker sitting on the bench doing nothing.

The time has come to sell.

Get rid of him, he's complete horseshit. Would much rather see Schlupp.

get rid of him??? he needs playing time, he scored about 12 goals a few seasons ago, you can not say that was a fluke! he just has not found his scoring boots yet!!!

What, based on the fact that when he did play up front he had a hell of an impact and scored for fun...?

No based on the fact his control is non-existent and his shooting has no finesse.

Out of position more recently...

whether he's out of position or not doesn't make a jot of difference as to whether he can control the ball or whether he can get any of his shots on target.

The post that I originally quoted said that he'd probably be terrible up front. I said based on how well he has done up front. He obviously can get some shots on target if he scored 12 goals in a loan spell. I wasn't disputing how good his control is.

As others have said, I too think he needs a loan. Maybe to league 1, where he should bang in a few goals and regain some confidence, his looks shot at the minute. A couple of months somewhere should do it, and if that don't work, I think the time would come to sell him.

read below

All this "he's playing out of position" talk, frankly is bullshit, When Pearson brought him in at the start we played 4-4-2 but by about November Pearson was using a 4-3-3 too and Waghorn was playing EXACTLY where he played last night from the right hand side. The simple fact is his development has stagnated, as a footballer, if Chrissy P wants a striker from us send Waghorn out on loan and see if that breaks him out of this atrocious form he's been in since he came back to the club.

Also we can play 4-4-2 we'd just have to do it the same was as Norwich, with a diamond, which would work for us

or fot those of you too think to understand

HE PLAYED RIGHT WING UNDER PEARSON AND PEOPLE THOUGHT HE COULD DO IT THEN he's played there before, for us, very well so he IS NOT OUT OF POSITION completely yes its not his favoured position but frankly he's not good enough for that position either
