Raw Dykes Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 Does anybody else feel a little sorry for Waghorn? I really do believe he thought he might be onto something good when signing for LCFC. I sort of feel like the club has let him down. Even though he's a young professional footballer near the top of one of the finest league structures in the world, built like the proverbial, and gets paid a king's ransom to do something he loves doing anyway, I do see your point. He did seem over the moon to have found this club and us, the fans, even though he was leaving his beloved boyhood club, and it is only really through a strange course of events that he finds himself on the way out. Pearson did absolutely nothing to deserve being kicked out, and if he was still here, I'm sure Waghorn would still be a 1st choice striker for us if he had still signed permanently. I still remember seeing an absolutely distraught Waggy being carried off the pitch in Cardiff in the penalty shoot out, and thinking, "that is not acting - he is even more upset than me about this, and I've supported this club since I was a kid." You can't help but think you want every player to care that much about the club, and it's pretty rare to see. I'm sure he'll have a good future. He does deserve to be playing 1st team football somewhere. Good luck to the lad.
m00nie Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 Yeh so deal with it quickly, quietly and professionally and be honest with the player. As for opportunities, they were very limited and virtually always out of position. This, the fryatt saga and the Hobbs saga were all left to fester far too long. sven said tonight waggy asked to move few weeks ago. so he has kept it quiet and professionally really.. was kind of obvious tonight something was up so stringer questioned him, wasnt much he could say then.. if he dontt rate him then he dont rate him. wasnt svens fault he joined us when he did..
21st Century Fox Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 He showed alot of promise but his abilities just don't fit in with what we need right now. I've no doubt he's been offered the chance to go out on loan but he obviously wants first team football with the chance of building his career. Alot of people will complain but the fact of the matter is he just doesn't fit in with what we're doing right now so its best for him to get his chance elsewhere rather than being strung along on the fringes of our team. He certainly isn't the type of player we can make changes to the team to accommodate him, if we were to give him more time to find his form in the side it could cost us games. Best of luck to him and no doubt he'll be great for someone else.
thybluefox Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 Gutted to see him going, but the weird thing is I'm not gutted because I think we're going to miss him on the pitch, more so because I just want him to do well. It's clear though that players with talent and finesse flourish under Sven, while the those that rely on pure work rate to get by don't so much. And I'm really not looking forward to the backlash from the cretins.
funkyrobot Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 Thybluefox, I'd argue that waghorn did show talent when he first arrived at Leicester. And if you think finesse flourishes under Sven then how do you explain the signings of mills and konchesky? Neither can be described as having that particular attribute.
Bugg Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 Nevermind, he won't be missed as he's been utter dogshit since last season and is looking the same this season. Bye.

And if you think finesse flourishes under Sven then how do you explain the signings of mills and konchesky? Neither can be described as having that particular attribute. He did, but we played a different game back then, relying on chasing long balls, rather than the quick short passing that Sousa and now Sven has us playing. Mills and Konchesky are different cases, bought in to do specific jobs that don't require them to be as comfortable playing the ball. Completely different for the midfielders and strikers.

It's clear though that players with talent and finesse flourish under Sven, while those that rely on pure work rate to get by don't so much. And I'm really not looking forward to the backlash from the cretins. To be honest Waghorn was a panic buy, acquired by the board and the then chairman against Sousa's wishes at the end of last summer's transfer window when we urgently needed a replacement for DJ Campbell. He and Sousa never got on and when Sven arrived his form was already starting to dip. Sven then brought in Vassell and stuck with him for the rest of the season, despite dips in form and long spells without a goal. He also brought in Bednar, Yakubu and Kamara on loan with varying degrees of success. None of these developments would have helped Waggy very much. But even when his touch briefly returned, with that last-minute winner against Bristol City, it counted for nothing in the eyes of the manager. The next game, against Cardiff, Waggy was AGAIN left on the bench. If he had been given a run in the starting eleven at that time, maybe our season would have taken a different turn. All water under the bridge now though. Best of luck to Waggy for the rest of his career and we await the arrival of his replacements in the squad.
1994fox Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 Pretty sure svens said a whileback we wouldnt sell waggy unless we got another striker in. So hopefully somthings being lined up!
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 Great attitude, fantastic bloke, gash finisher, Pearson player. Real confidence man, given the chance to develop somewhere else I'm sure he could flourish. Not good enough for us but unfortunately some people expect players to be the finished article when they're only 21. Like Hobbs, will genuinely wish him well. A player who really wanted to give his all for us. Can't fault that regardless of ability.
DanTheFox07 Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 has been given opportunities and hasn`t done enough to impress! Never gone be what we need for now and in the future, best for both to move on!

@mrtonycox Posted 24 August 2011 Posted 24 August 2011 I find it staggering that when I slate Sven the forum goes mad and says get behind the team... But the same people can also slate a player who no doubt loves this club.. Waggy had potential, he played well and looked good, and we were ALL happy when we signed him for good.. Something happened to knock his confidence, progression and form... Sven. I'm I get a kicking for not being a fan by the same people that throw the same sort of comments.. Is this forum run by people that only control their view and ensure other peoples are not heard.?? Waggy will leave and go on to become a good player, We paid £3m for him, we'll give him away and in a couple of years will be worth a lot more.. Not good business.

His confidence was already shot when Sousa was here. And we paid £2m for him.
MGLCFC Posted 24 August 2011 Posted 24 August 2011 Please tell me how Waghorn has warranted a place in the team - he has been given chances to show what he can do. (Rotherham, 30 mins against Bristol) Paying £3mil for him was a panic buy and Steve Bruce couldn't get the money in the bank quick enough. I watch Waghorn in warm up and nothing there shows me he is trying to develop - he prats around trying to hit the cross bar or blasts it over just to see how hard he can hit a ball, often endangering people in Row Z. He is less mobile now than he used to be as he looks muscle bound. Good time to sell and use the money for a proper proven goal scorer.

@mrtonycox Posted 24 August 2011 Posted 24 August 2011 £3m fee????? Ha ha ha start the car i'll drive him. Wow, that's staggering. That would be good business.
MGLCFC Posted 24 August 2011 Posted 24 August 2011 It may well have been £2mil initially, but the final agreement with add ons was £3mil - that was our intended payment if all went well.

@mrtonycox Posted 24 August 2011 Posted 24 August 2011 Probably still only £2mil If it was based on appearances I think we're safe at £2m..!!
ThurnbyLodgeFox Posted 24 August 2011 Posted 24 August 2011 gutted, absolutely gutted. Waghorn will always be a blue in his heart. Once a blue, always a blue! goodbye Waggy, good luck
