MikeyT Posted 27 August 2011 Author Posted 27 August 2011 Defense is a shambles, nerves got to the team in the second half. Sven chances the formation from 4-4-2 back to the erratic 4-3-3??? WTF? That took the whole momentum out of our play and we played much worse in the second 45 minutes. Thank f"ck for Kasper Schmeichel who parried three good shots towards the end of the game, it could've well ended 4-3 for the Saints. Nugent out (hopefully not for too long). Now we really need a striker - Maynard come off injured today or what? Happy about three points but really pissed off about the way we let Southampton back into the game, especially at home. Now... did Seabourne receive two yellows or not??? No Stringer apparently got that wrong.
21st Century Fox Posted 27 August 2011 Posted 27 August 2011 In all fairness we would have absolutely thrown that away last season and alot earlier too, so there are positives to take from that second half.
nuttytimmy Posted 27 August 2011 Posted 27 August 2011 Great first half, dodgy in the second. But phew, what a result.
lcfcadam Posted 27 August 2011 Posted 27 August 2011 I want to have sex with Kasper on so many levels...
Salieri Posted 27 August 2011 Posted 27 August 2011 The moaners will continue to moan even though we've won 3pts and scored 3 goals. I'm normally very upbeat and am obviously delighted with the 3 points against a good Southampton side. BUT, there's no denying Svens decision to change formation when we were 3-1 up and cruising was bizarre to say the least. If it wasn't for Schmeichel in the last 15 minutes or so, we would have lost the game.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 27 August 2011 Posted 27 August 2011 Southampton are a good side, fantastic effort to stop their 100% record and finally get some points at home. Some 'questionable' decisions from Sven very nearly cost us, though. The moaners will continue to moan even though we've won 3pts and scored 3 goals. ...Because we inexplicably changed formation, let in two soft goals, and, by the sounds of it, were kept in the game thanks to our 'keeper. Someone shoot me for having an opinion and not pretending that today was perfect, if you think it was, you've got a very blinkered take on things. By refusing not to concede there were negatives as well as positives today, you're looking sillier than the people you're trying to attack.
iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 27 August 2011 Posted 27 August 2011 Sounded like we struggle to hold on. Delighted with the win against Southampton, good side. Just pisses me off more that we can beat them but not Forest or Bristol. Wonder if that Saints fan will return ..

21st Century Fox Posted 27 August 2011 Posted 27 August 2011 Lets be honest we don't know for sure what would have happened had we stuck with 4-4-2 so the change could have won it for us.
boring_jester Posted 27 August 2011 Posted 27 August 2011 Hope Nugent is ok. Kasper was the game saver. made up for his red card
southdevonfox Posted 27 August 2011 Posted 27 August 2011 The moaners will continue to moan even though we've won 3pts and scored 3 goals. people have a right to panic , i`ve just lost about 10 years of my life in that game , in fact i need a lie down now , and you think we are moaning , thats all u have said all through the game , change the record m8 .
James18 Posted 27 August 2011 Posted 27 August 2011 Sitting back for the last 10 minutes is up there with the worst tactic in football. Thanks to Kasper for saving us today. Fantastic 3 points!
zigga-zagga Posted 27 August 2011 Posted 27 August 2011 Sounds like you were a bit lucky again today boys! Southampton having 54% of the play and 11 shots on target against your 6. Once again though you won on fouls and yellow cards, conceding more fouls and getting more yellow cards. Where is this magic that Sven has? It's gone just like he soon will be. You've spent £10 million pound on average players.
Libertine Posted 27 August 2011 Posted 27 August 2011 Lets be honest we don't know for sure what would have happened had we stuck with 4-4-2 so the change could have won it for us. Course not, but with Danns and Schlupp on the wings it's madness. I'm not a big fan of the diamond but it has everyone in their proper position knowing what to do. I can understand going for a more counter attacking approach in the second half, but that's only going to work with outlets up front or on the wings. Get Mills to knock the balls over the top to the two pacey strikers and King/Gallagher following in behind. I can understand switching to the 4-3-3 if we have pacey wingers available to us, but we didn't.

drc Posted 27 August 2011 Posted 27 August 2011 we weren't cruising the last 15 minutes in the first half, it was just we had a lucky goal in the end. Maybe just Southampton was grinding us down as they are in great form and it would have been the same scenario had we played 4-4-2 in the second half. Great win against a form-team. We're slowly getting there lads.

Lillehamring Posted 27 August 2011 Posted 27 August 2011 Lets be honest we don't know for sure what would have happened had we stuck with 4-4-2 so the change could have won it for us. totally agree - i think it's fair to say that southampton would have thrown everything at us regardless of formation and probably would have dominated. Some people just want to find fault with sven for anything, last week it was bringing on gally, this week it was changing the formation. after all we conceded playing 442, sounds like at the end there was some heroic defending, and the 2nd goal was from a corner so the formation made no difference.

I wasn't saying it was a good choice by any means, I just meant we can't say for certain it would have ended that way had we not changed.
