But in these days of three points for a win drawing is of little value when the pacemakers are clearly going for wins and goals. One day the penny will drop on this issue with our fans and our management. Yes, there are times when a draw has some merit. But we really must set out to win games and to maintain pressure wehn we get in front. Faint hearts and a conviction-lacking, hedge-your-bets approach will win us nothing. Play 442 and be all over Forest. Play 442 and be 3-1 up at Southampton at HT, switch to 451/433 and concede a goal.
Nick_The_Tyke Posted 10 September 2011 Posted 10 September 2011 Just a couple of things to add To the guys who pointed out you can't be offside from a goal kick - I know - that's why I said he stood in a position which would otherwise be offside. It still seems a really bizarre tactic though because it basically means if the goal kick doesn't get far enough, should any other Leicester player touch the ball, Beckford cannot then attempt to play it until he has run into an onside position. Surely that is going to break down more of your own attacks than it will trouble defences? Oh and to the guy who thinks Leicester's spending makes this our cup final, so we raised our game: Think again. Big spenders are nothing special this season. Apart from you, Blackpool, West Ham, Burnley, Forest (shit manager tho), Southampton, Middlesbrough and Cardiff all have strong squads this season - only 3 will go up though and they may not all be in that list. To be honest, with a squad assembled from acadamy graduates, Championship sides' reserve players and lower league hopefuls, we'll have 46 cup finals this season. No, scrub that. 44 plus 2 games against Doncaster. Anyway, signing off now so good luck with the season. And I mean that - I fear financial difficulties loom for many of the clubs in the above list who don't make it to the top flight either this season or next. We've both been there and I for one wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy, let alone your lot. I'll probably stick my beak in to pick over the bones of the reverse fixture. Hasta la vista, Foxes

I'm reading through some of the comments in this thread and one could get the impression that WW III has just broken out. Thracian with his usual "x points off the top of the table" mumbo-jumbo (but only after games we haven't won, mind you). Or the Doom and Gloom Party that is already seeing us relegated or not challenging for promotion. Most of the players we've signed so far were simply better than the rest at their previous clubs. Schmeichel had to put up with one of the worst defenses in the league last season, Mills was one of Reading's best players last season, Danns probably Palace's best midfielder. Pantsil was more than just solid for Fulham and Konchesky had an unfortunate stint at Liverpool, but that's about it. Peltier shone for Huddersfield, Beckford was Everton's best striker last campaign (then again, he's only played one game for us right now). Nugent has already shown glimpses of promise and the injury came at one of the worst possible moments, as he was clearly on the rise and adjusting well to the new surroundings. Fernandes has been doing extraordinarily well for us so far, but it's just so much easier to emphasize the bad points than looking at the good ones. Depending on when they were added or allowed to play in the starting eleven, the new players have found themselves or are now finding themselves in team full of teammates with similar class, mixed with the main core squad that was already at the club beforehand. Maybe finding your place within this new squad is what they're still trying to achieve. We're only 6 games into the new season. That's 13% of the total. We're only 7 points off an automatic promotion spot and only 3 points off the playoff places. You can give a fair assessment of this team once we've reached the 15 games mark the earliest, Christmas should give us a clear picture for sure. Although I have to say the first half was another disappointment. Felt like we were playing in a low gear, unable to gain speed and make it up to 5th or 6th. And it was odd to see that we didn't have a striker on the bench. All in all, I'd wish we weren't so plastered with media coverage. I'd wish there were actually no statements from the manager or the players at all. I'd wish they'd give the answer on the pitch, instead of trying to console everybody with mundane paroles. But this year's focus is on us and I'm wondering whether this media pressure has gotten the worst out of these players (so far). Now I'm not saying this is bad and I know professional footballers should be used to it, but the attitude's got to change. It can't be that Mills for instance, who did well with Reading, suddenly starts coming up with so many errors or that Gallagher plays bad in the 45 minutes today. The expectation levels are still too high. I don't want to hear player statements in the mould of "we'll do our best". Just stop it. It's way too misleading and/or ambiguous. Let go of those inhibitions. But what am I saying? Sometimes, I am close to despair when I think of fans who believe we should be beating every other team by a minimum of three goals. It's not like the other teams could be struggling at one point as well, eh? I think we will do well, I just wish some people would stop expecting us to walk this league or play liquid football like Barcelona (whose team consists of a lot of players who've known each other since they were kids). Every other club will raise their game against us, because we're supposed to be the 2nd best team in this league (allegedly, and all of that on paper). Just like Barnsley did today. It's the most competitive 2nd tier in the world. We're already doing better than last year. And we're still just 6 games into a new season.

Oh yeah I forgot about Howard. I would rather have him on the bench than the other strikers at the moment, he is a different option and would certainly put in more effort than Vassell did today by all accounts.

You cant just keep bringing in players when someone gets injured that defeats the object of having a good squad. Vassell is more than adequate enough to be playing, at least off the bench. He hasnt scored enough, but has he looked good when he has played in the central striker role? Yes. Schlupp wont be starting every game will he if he fills in for Nugent. Schlupp is a prospect and has proved worthy of a place on the bench. What we cant afford to do is not give him a chance and bring other players instead, we need to give players a chance. Who says he isnt ready to play frequently? Players have to start palying sooner or later. Problem is though, Sven bums Vassell, he is a favourite and will always be in the team. It wont surprise me if he plays Vassell with Beckford rather than playing Beckford and Nugent. Thats why he plays 4-3-3 to accomodate Vassell, who is good, but not first or second best striker at the club.

IF the problem is one of getting the existing new squad to gel, how much longer is it gonna take if we bring more in? Here's a thought... How's about getting our current crop to play as a team? Eh? Corky Posted 10 September 2011 Posted 10 September 2011 Not a good performance overall, we started quite brightly, and also began the second half in decent fashion, but really we were second best and have Kasper, plus some very poor finishing, to thank for the fact we got a point. I thought Beckford was excellent, worked very hard with little decent service, and Vassell gave his all. Why Sven chose to put Gallagher in ahead of King baffled me, King isn't perfect but in scoring and making another run before shooting wide he looked more threatening than Gallagher did. Please start him next week. Konchesky did well, though Pantsil was poor and Barnsley targeted him as our weak link. We need to improve though ahead of a very tough match next week and two difficult away trips. It was a game we really should be looking at winning today.
