Happy Fox Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/story-13335866-detail/story.html? Sven-Goran Eriksson admits sorting out Leicester City's defence is a priority as he looks to iron out his side's on-field problems. City have made an unconvincing start to their Championship campaign, and while they are unbeaten in their last three games, goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has had to produce vital late saves against both Southampton two weeks ago and at Barnsley last Saturday to protect that record. Eriksson has pinpointed his side's defending and the delivery from set pieces as areas of concern, but said he can still see signs that his much-changed squad is improving. "The defending is something thing we have to sort out because the chances they (Barnsley) created were worrying and Kasper made some very good saves once again," he said. "They broke from our corner for one chance. Something is wrong. We had a corner, didn't put it in very good, and suddenly they are free against our own goalkeeper. That is not good enough. "Yes, of course there is work to be done, but I think we are getting better and better and you could see there was a certain amount of mental strength in the team. We didn't lose. "We have to work on set plays, attacking and defending. We are working on that a lot. We must keep the ball better, even when we are away against very aggressive teams. "We have to work to improve, and we can do better than that." Eriksson said City must learn to cope with sides trying to knock City out of their stride early on in games, as Barnsley did effectively at Oakwell. "Barnsley started very well, very aggressive, and they didn't let us play at all," he said. "I guess every game will be like this. It is not enough just to play good football, you have to fight. We know that. "We have to go on working, not panicking, and we will be better. We did a lot of good things in the second half so we are getting better."
Criggers Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 The other article with Kasper was more interesting to me. Kasper is positive City will click soon http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/Kasper-positive-City-click-soon/story-13335868-detail/story.html Former City forward Yann Kermorgant has signed for League One Charlton Athletic on a two-year deal.Kermorgant spent last season out on loan in France and City cancelled the final year of the 29-year-old's contract last month. He becomes manager Chris Powell's 19th signing since the end of last season. How come Chrissy P can get his players to gel? Played 7, won 5 and drew 2....
kirkwood Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 How long has he been saying this? We had the same message from MON when he first arrived but he DID sort it out, and somewhat quicker.

accessory Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 Well he hardly set the league on fire the season before. Charlton have signed even more players over the summer than we have. But those signings have clearly settled more quickly.
wellyfox Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 How long has he been saying this? We had the same message from MON when he first arrived but he DID sort it out, and somewhat quicker. Did we you should check MON's record ten games people where calling for his head. And he nearly walked and every time someone came in for him he reminded us how some fans treated him. Sven is not god but he started whith a pile of shite and turned our season round. The day after the season finished he had a pile of shite. And from that he has had to build and that takes time so why not give him till xmas. If you change now chances are the new man will do no better and by xmas be time for another manager in some peoples mind
Corky Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 It does need sorting out, we've conceded two goals in each of our last five home matches and kept one clean sheet at the Way since November. Can't be that soft and breakable at the back on our own ground.

We know that. "We have to go on working, not panicking, and we will be better. We did a lot of good things in the second half so we are getting better." I've lost count of the times we've "needed to sort our defence". We've got a defender as coach in The Faz so what's the bloke doing week in week out? For sure he's not sorting the free-kicks out instead, at least not according to any evidence I see on the pitch. So what is being done on the so-called training pitch? Our defence is not just a matter of personnel. because, for whatever reason, I'm not convinced we've got the option to field an outstanding defence unless the guys we've got have been severely underperforming?. So right now it's about making the best of what we have and not letting the problem of having to hold our defenders' hands ruin our attacking potential. Yes, we should attack and defend as one unit. But our defenders just aren't collectively mobile enough for that, nor do they have the understanding of one another nor the game-reading skills to do that job. Bristol City perhaps highlighted it best. And Forest to some extent in the second half. Hit on the counter our defence crumbles like merangue. There's no organising brains in there and the best we've got, Tunchev, is away at Crystal Palace. Wayne Brown was an organiser. Hell, the bloke couldn't pass a ball and you'd never describe him as quick. But he could read the situations, organise people around him and he would die for the cause. He's never been replaced though it grieves me to think that we can't find a fast, mobile passing version of the guy and we send the nearest thing we've got out on loan. Peltier is a very ordinary right back from his performances so far, Mills doesn't link with him (nor anyone else). Bamba is an eyecatching but flawed maverick and Konchesky looks a journeyman. Collective marks out of 10? Maybe 5 or 6 in relation to what I'd expect. Answers, given the commitment we've made? Build something better. In training I'd be trying everything - even the most extreme idea of playing Andy King as sweeper because he's the only defence-capable player we've got available who seems to have the ability to read a game. But the loss of his goals would surely be too costly. I'd definitely want more pace, skill and energy at full-back even if we had to play Schlupp there. As for a right-back I haven't got a clue. Cos I don't see any indication that we've got one who's good enough. At this stage I might even think of converting someone like Danns. It looks strange, I admit, but from what we have available or potentially available I'd be looking to something like Danns, Tunchev, Bamba , Schlupp with King just in front. People capable of reading the game blended with speed, strength, mobility and the ability to pass and support. Bamba would be a concern. He fits so many of the requirements but is so indiscliplined. But someone surely can make him see the bigger picture. Danns and Schlupp might wonder about converting to full-back but to me it's an absolutely vital role in any team - look at the influence of Bale, Gary Neville, Evra, Irwin and so many more. But even then it drains our attack somewhat and we still need to find some wingers. It's a nightmare and I cannot understand why we've gone through an entire close season and left ourselves in such a mess. Please accept the above is not presented as magic wand solution. It's a line of thought given the severely limited options we've got. I've not mentioned St Leger. People say he's brilliant but there's been nothing vaguelly brilliant about what little I've seen so far and I sincerely hope I'm mistaken about that. But, whatever centre-backs we choose, one of them has to be able to pass and organise. On top of that the full-backs have to be fast, mobile, tenacious, able to pass and keen/capable of supporting in attack. An ability to shoot/take free kicks would be a bonus. All standard stuff really but we're way short.
kam6 Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 Good points made on the moan in on monday. We need more coaches doing specific jobs!

Sods Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 Not one good right back Thrac? Peltier has hardly put a foot wrong, he scores goals as well which you like. Painstil will come good I'm sure of that. You hated Wayne brown when he was at Leicester because of his passing. Schlupp at left back would be silly and do the lad no favours.
breadandcheese Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 It might be worth switching to 3 at the back, in order to shore up the breach. I wonder how the players rate our coaching team. Faz with his pedigree should be able to sort out the problems and improve the players. I've always wondered about Mike Stowell, how good a coach he really is (but that maybe just because he's been here throughout the last few years when we struggled and went down to league 1).
ealingfox Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 I hope this is the one and only time I say this, but I agree with Holloway here. Don't care if we concede four goals every match as long as we score five.
Dan Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 Meh, means nowt to me - if I see an improvement in our defence/set pieces in the next few games then fair play. If not then this is completely meaningless.
Bausor Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 would like to see st ledger at the back again - and move bamba into the holding midfield role, i think this could work we all want a big man in midfield to put himself about a bit win some headers plus he runs at people and would create chances for the team, sven do it. it makes sense.

jamesmilner Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 "We have to work on set plays, attacking and defending. We are working on that a lot." one of the most funniest comments sven has spurted in his life .so we are working on everything then sven ? he is saying we are crap in plain english to me . he has spent a fortune on defenders that need to be taught how to defend . i ve lost my confidence in him , not totally but nearly .
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 Too right it needs bastard sorting, shambles.

Guest MattP Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 Why are you telling us this? We already know Sven.
Bugg Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 Why are you telling us this? We already know Sven. Probably trying to let the fans know that he's aware of the problem and trying to sort it out, would you rather him say that the defence is perfect so people can whine about him being deluded?
Father Ted Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 No Sven, your tactics are wrong and that needs sorting out. Maybe then the defence could be more settled.
dannythefox Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 Bout time he said something least he's said there's a problem he wont have any excuse not to play 4-4-2 now!
Guest MattP Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 Probably trying to let the fans know that he's aware of the problem and trying to sort it out, would you rather him say that the defence is perfect so people can whine about him being deluded? No I don't want him coming out saying anything, why should he? Could end up making himself look even more stupid if he goes with the same back four again and we leak more goals.
p_kam Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 at the beginning of the season Sven said he wanted 2 player for each position which would create competition and it would get the best out of the players, but as we have seen some players have not performed and are still starting. i think it is time for a change and to show the players if you don't perform you lose you place. Also let your top goal score start Shulpp, in a striking position and not on the wing.
