DEMANN Posted 1 October 2015 Posted 1 October 2015 There might be some red tape to get through, but if enough people petition for it...then maybe. I'm gonna see if I can get Liz Kendall's ear.
Rincewind Posted 2 October 2015 Posted 2 October 2015 I'd sign if it was politicians. Mainly world leaders.
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 2 October 2015 Posted 2 October 2015 Don't have to be a left wing or liberal dickhead to see the death penalty for what it is.
Wymsey Posted 2 October 2015 Posted 2 October 2015 It's not. If prisons carry on being over-crowded with murderers, etc - what other options can the authorities have that puts pressure off the prison system? Even those who get released, will not give a shit what others think and will probably repeat the crime like murder.
bovril Posted 2 October 2015 Posted 2 October 2015 The fact the death penalty still exists is proof of how much the human race still needs to progress.

Wymsey Posted 2 October 2015 Posted 2 October 2015 Wouldn't be the only one with that view on it, if a public debate got going again. Sorry.
Jaspa Posted 2 October 2015 Posted 2 October 2015 Best way of doing it would be to stick them all on an island, Battle Royale style and let them fight it out to the death. Make sure theyve either admitted their crimes or are conclusively guilty, dont broadcast or commercialise otherwise some people would have an incentive to commit crimes in getting on there. Surround and patrol the bastard to make sure no-one escapes. Exceptional cases get referred army jobs. In all honesty though I find the death penalty incredibly hypercritical. If a government has condemned an act in murder and has put it out there as completely abhorrent why then would it carry that out themselves as a punishment? It compromises their moral high ground, I cant believe civilised countries still proceed, if you misjudge one case its nothing but murder.
purpleronnie Posted 2 October 2015 Posted 2 October 2015 Wouldn't be the only one with that view on it, if a public debate got going again. Sorry. Don't you have a problem about the state potentially killing an innocent person?
marko Posted 2 October 2015 Posted 2 October 2015 Don't you have a problem about the state potentially killing an innocent person? There's no potential about it. There is 100% accurate evidence that shows the US has executed innocent citizens.
RonnieTodger Posted 2 October 2015 Posted 2 October 2015 There's a general consensus that prisons are soft. If this wasn't the case, I think people would be more content with the death penalty being banned here. A very minor case but someone I knew had a PS2 with GTA 3 in his cell . He was a burglar so obviously it's not so severe, but he has no problem with fleeting in and out.
purpleronnie Posted 2 October 2015 Posted 2 October 2015 There's no potential about it. There is 100% accurate evidence that shows the US has executed innocent citizens. I know, that's why I asked.
Finnegan Posted 2 October 2015 Posted 2 October 2015 I'm not against reform to the prison system or sentencing but the death penalty will never be the answer. Doesn't matter whether we argue about the potential for error, the cost to the tax payer, the fact it doesn't work as a deterrent or any other factor.
