Callabinho Posted 27 September 2011 Posted 27 September 2011 Biggest test of the season for me, containing Emnes will be a tough task for any defender!
Happy Fox Posted 27 September 2011 Posted 27 September 2011 From their fans they would prefer to play a 4-3-3 formation, but Mowbray is likely to play a standard 4-4-2. http://oneboro.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?tid=2759&page=7
Ric Flair Posted 27 September 2011 Posted 27 September 2011 Considering how bad Weale has been this season when called upon, i'd also rather have another outfield player on the bench instead of him.
davieG Posted 27 September 2011 Author Posted 27 September 2011 Merc Michael Johnson is ready to make his first league start for over three years, Leicester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has said. The 23-year-old has not started a league game since August 2008 when he appeared for Manchester City in their 3-0 win at Sunderland. Eriksson, however, believes he can play a bigger role for City after his excellent cameo appearance at Cardiff City on Sunday. Johnson's career has been blighted by injuries since that appearance at the Stadium of Light and he joined City on loan last month in a bid to get his career back on track. After making a couple of appearances in the Carling Cup, the former England under-21 international came off the substitute's bench at the Cardiff City Stadium and impressed. Eriksson said he put Johnson on to help City regain control of the clash, and was delighted with his influence. "I think he is ready to start a Championship game now," he said. "You could see at once with his touch and his passes that he is a great football player. "The reason we put him on was to try to keep the ball on the floor a little bit and not knock it up into the air against the two strong centre halves. I think we became better after that. "He is an all-round midfield player. He can defend, he can attack, he has a good shot and can score a goal. "He can pass the ball very well and if he can become the player he was before his injury he will show he is a great player. "Some years ago everyone thought he would be the next England central midfielder. "He has everything and I hope he can be that player again." Johnson could feature again against Middlesbrough tomorrow, as could striker David Nugent, who has returned to full training after a month out with a hamstring injury. But midfielder Paul Gallagher remains sidelined with ankle ligament damage.

Wymsey Posted 27 September 2011 Posted 27 September 2011 Yuki Abe or Andy King possibly. Both lightweight and Cardiff went past them rather easily on Sunday. I think, for some reason, Wellens will keep his place.
Ric Flair Posted 27 September 2011 Posted 27 September 2011 My strongest 11 if everyone was fit would be: Schmeichel Peltier Bamba Mills Konchesky Danns King Johnson Fernandes Nugent Beckford But I just wonder if that 4 can play together. I like Abe and for all the absue I give Wellens, I know he's capable at this level if he concentrates on what he does well. Danns can give us some width, he's a central midfielder with a good engine and can operate out wide if needs be. Fernandes, King and Johnson are all more suited centrally though and deploying one to cover the left hand side is tricky, Fernandes has done that recently and he's not been as effective as when sat in front of the back four dictating play. Johnson has great movement and composure on the ball, but again he's the sort of player who will hurt teams in the middle. So that leaves King, who i'm a big fan of but he's losing his way in this system we play. I'd possibly drop him if we had a winger to rely on, but Dyer blows hot and cold and i'd rather King's goal threat than play Lloyd week in, week out. I still think Sven could fine tune this squad better than he has done so, so far.
Heskey2011 Posted 27 September 2011 Posted 27 September 2011 Kasper Peltier - Mills © - Bamba - Konchesky Wellens King - Danns Vassell Beckford - Howard Subs: Weale, Pansil, Abe, Fernandes, Schlupp I'm going 2-1 to us. Yeah i'd like to see Howard and Becks upfront together, obviously not a long term plan but could prove fruitful
Guest Col city fan Posted 27 September 2011 Posted 27 September 2011 My team: flat 4-1-4-1 Kasper Pelts Mills Bamba Konch Fernandes Danns King Wellens Dyer Beckford
blue blood Posted 27 September 2011 Posted 27 September 2011 Schmichael Peltier Mills Bamba Konchesky Wellens Johnson Nugent or Dyer Gally or King Vassell or Schlup Beckford 4-2-3-1
sphericalfox Posted 27 September 2011 Posted 27 September 2011 My team: flat 4-1-4-1 Kasper Pelts Mills Bamba Konch Fernandes Danns King Wellens Dyer Beckford Beckford doesn't play well up top on his own. This formation would end up in a 0-0 draw or worse.
Guest Col city fan Posted 27 September 2011 Posted 27 September 2011 Beckford doesn't play well up top on his own. This formation would end up in a 0-0 draw or worse. He'd be fine with the supply coming in from Dyer and Danns, who themselves could cut inside and weigh-in with a goal Gives us more pace, width and chance to counter-attack Which is what's been lacking IMO, esp away from home NB: are you saying Beckford looked ok playing with a second striker against Cardiff? Lack of supply is the problem..this formation would provide it

The squad does lack natural width and I think that showed at Cardiff, but I like the look of the 4 midfielders youve gone with. Think we might just need the 2 forward players to drop a little deeper & work the channels a bit more to provide width and space for the likes of King to make runs into the box

Lack of supply is the problem..this formation would provide it What i am saying and you are being obtuse, is that Beckford normally plays better with a second striker. This has been proven at his time with Leeds and Everton. This isn't an opinion. It is a proven statistic. He didn't get going and spent a lot of his time bouncing against the Cardiff defence trying to claim innocuous fouls. When he had the ball he didn't do a great deal. I think this will come, but he was clearly out of sorts. If you are expecting Dyer and Danns to deliver superb crosses you'll be very disappointed. Dyer has only one way of playing, and if Mowbray has down his homework, and I believe he will have, then Dyer is only good to put on at a tired defence in a bid to breaking them and snatching a goal. Your formation suggests a defensive approach based on counter-attack, which is precisely how 'Boro have managed to obtain their points. They have serious pace in their squad. We need threats in Beckford and Nugent to apply pressure on them from the start, if we then have to revert to your formation in the second half then I'll agree with it, but not from the start of the match.

hackneyfox Posted 27 September 2011 Posted 27 September 2011 Drop Wellens Fernandes at the back of the diamond, Danns at the front of it. No room for Dyer or Howard thanks.
