Not certain, but I think it was to do with exactly that, but the other way round. i.e. If clubs have to fill 7 spaces on the bench, many talented youngsters sit there on a Saturday afternoon rather than being loaned out to develop. Also, given the current economic challehnges, that makes sense for most clubs. Believe it or not, that meeting / vote happened at the KPS !!

Its clearly a neagative thing for clubs with big squads like ourselves but even clubs like Macclesfield were coming out and saying they wre against the reduction as it meant they could no longer blood youngsters etc. Also, clubs were not forced to have 7 subs and if they wanted to reduce costs could have named 4 or 5 under the original system. Either way the fact it was dropped on teams shortly before the start of the season is outrageous!
