Ikeme vows to show Sven what he is missing AS soon as Carl Ikeme secured his third successive clean sheet in a Middlesbrough shirt he turned his attention to showing Sven-Goran Eriksson what he missed out on when the former England boss brings his Leicester side to the Riverside on Wednesday. This week 12 months ago, Ikeme was gearing up for the sixth appearance of his loan spell at Leicester, Eriksson's first game as Foxes boss, at home to Scunthorpe. On the eve of the fixture, however, the Wolves goalkeeper was injured in training and his campaign was ruined. On Wednesday night, the 25-year-old will finally have the chance to show Eriksson what he is capable of, only this time it will be when he attempts to keep Middlesbrough in the top two. Ikeme, whose strong handling ensured Middlesbrough maintained their unbeaten start to the Championship with a goalless draw at home to Ipswich, is expecting big spenders Leicester to be a tough nut to crack. "It was the Sven revolution just as I was leaving. They brought in a lot of good players and have some quality coming through, it's going to be tough for us," said Ikeme. "I was just about to play on the Saturday under Sven, his first game, and I rolled my ankle and injured my shoulder in the same session on the Friday before. I tried to get fit. I wanted to play under him. In the end it wasn't to be. I needed surgery." Despite spending the rest of last season out with those injuries at parent club Wolves, Ikeme has performed solidly deputising for the injured Jason Steele. He was never forced into too many saves against Ipswich on Saturday, but was still in the right place at the right time to deal with everything that dropped into his box. He also made a fine first-half save with his thigh from Michael Chopra. "I always try to stay confident. I am still young, so there has never been any reason for me to worry about the injuries too much. I was always satisfied I could still do well," said Ikeme. Of the point-blank save from Chopra he said: "I tried to make myself big and it hit me. Sometimes that happens. I don't even know where it hit, it just sailed over the bar, so I was happy." Boro are still undefeated in the Championship although there is frustration at their failure to win more than one of their opening four league games at the Riverside while winning all five away. "We are not so disappointed to get a point even if we wanted to win," said Ikeme. "There is a lot of talent here. A lot of versatility. It is a small squad and it is working well for us. I am really enjoying it. "I just have to try to do well while I am here.
Ric Flair Posted 26 September 2011 Posted 26 September 2011 Be lovely to keep our unbeaten run going on Wednesday and even nicer if it's all 3 points. Nugent can't be far off being fit, if he's not back before the Derby game then he'll likely be fit after the international break and that's when we'll be at our strongest. In the mean time, if we knuckle down and can grind out two more results then we'll be in a decent position after 10 games. I'd bring Danns in for Wellens and Johnson to come on if Fernandes, King or Abe are struggling. I may have been very critical of Wellens yesterday, but Fernandes was also poor and Ave fairly anonymous. They did however both play well against Brighton, where as I think Wellens looks off the pace in recent weeks and needs a rest. Dyer enjoys a gig against Boro, I hope he's involved in some form on wednesday, his pace is what we are lacking out wide.
Happy Fox Posted 26 September 2011 Posted 26 September 2011 I would take 4 points from the next two games, we will get a draw against Boro and beat Dierby imo.

Shen (shouts)....shen!! is it ok for me to say that I think we may struggle against an in-form Borough side and I fear we'll lose albeit narrowly? HOWEVER, ON A POSITIVE NOTE... I think we'll beat the shaggers on Saturday.. Oh Sod it, I've said it anyway...
Libertine Posted 26 September 2011 Posted 26 September 2011 Boro have done well but only won one at home so far so they'll be well up for it. Will be happy with a draw again, just hope we improve a bit going forwards.
Fox92 Posted 26 September 2011 Posted 26 September 2011 Another tough (away) game, with Middlesbrough being unbeaten this season. Like Cardiff away, I'd certaily take a point away from the Riverside. Regarding the team, I would play 4-4-2 Dyer playing on the right, and Vassell on the left. Although Beckford looks like he needs a partner (Nugent), I would play King behind and bring him off for Schlupp/Howard if its not working or if King looks tired (like usual). I've totally dropped Fernandes as I'd like to see how good Wellens and Johnson look in central midfield, not sure how fit Johnson is like but Abe would be on the bench just incase. I'd generally like us going forward better, and with Dyer and Vassell we would have the pace on either side. Kasper Peltier -- Mills -- Bamba -- Konchesky Dyer -- Wellens -- Johnson -- Vassell King Beckford Subs: St. Ledger, Abe, Danns, Schlupp, Howard Not sure if Nugent is close, anybody?
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 26 September 2011 Posted 26 September 2011 Stick with the same team, keep the unbeaten run going. 4 points from next two games is a must, we have done ok at Boro in the last few years so I think we can nick a win.
LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 26 September 2011 Posted 26 September 2011 Kasper Peltier - Mills © - Bamba - Konchesky Wellens King - Danns Vassell Beckford - Howard Subs: Weale, Pansil, Abe, Fernandes, Schlupp I'm going 2-1 to us.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 26 September 2011 Posted 26 September 2011 Kasper Pelts Mills Bamba Konchesky Johnson Wellens King Vassell Nugent Beckford Subs Fernandes Abe Paintsil / Howard St Ledger Danns Going for a 1-0 win
Dr The Singh Posted 26 September 2011 Posted 26 September 2011 Kasper Pelts Mills Bamba Konchesky Johnson Wellens King Vassell Nugent Beckford Subs Fernandes Abe Paintsil / Howard St Ledger Danns Going for a 1-0 win It will be the same side and a boring 0 - 0 I hope!!
Socks Posted 26 September 2011 Posted 26 September 2011 Kasper Pelts Mills Bamba Konchesky Danns Fernandes Johnson Vassell Nugent Beckford Subs Abe King Paintsil St Ledger Wellens But I think we will lose this one, just got a feeling in my crisps they are playing well in all areas of the park, we are only in some ( mainly defense ) also flat 4 4 2 playing wide with no diamond both teams yesterday played a midfield diamond and it just ended up as a big scuffle in the middle of the park which was just dull

Wymsey Posted 26 September 2011 Posted 26 September 2011 Same team from yesterday but Johnson replacing Wellens, who deserves to be dropped after a few bad performances.
m00nie Posted 26 September 2011 Posted 26 September 2011 think id like to rest/rotate wellens and fernandes and bring in danns/johnson.. maybe have dyer on bench and see how long johnson lasts... ------------------Kasper Peltier - Mills © - Bamba - Konchesky ---------------------------Abe ----------------Johnson - Danns ------------------------King -----------------Beckford - Nugent
Fox1651 Posted 26 September 2011 Posted 26 September 2011 Kasper Pelts Mills Bamba Konchesky Johnson Wellens Danns Schlupp Nugent (if fit) or Vassell Beckford Subs Howard Vassell (see above) or Nugent Fernandes King St Ledger
Socks Posted 26 September 2011 Posted 26 September 2011 why is everyone picking wellens ? hes been shit the past few games and I reckon someone else (Danns, johnson, fernandes) could do a much better job... i reckon kings a bit stale too drop em sven !!

Don't have a goalless draw for over a season then 2 come along at once!

Fox1651 Posted 26 September 2011 Posted 26 September 2011 Is Nugent fit again? Apparently he should at least be on the bench
Ric Flair Posted 26 September 2011 Posted 26 September 2011 Apparently he should at least be on the bench Brilliant news. I think he'll help bring the best out of Beckford, as will Johnson. Things are starting to look a lot better! Still would like us to play with some more width, but unless Sven dips in to the loan market we've not got the players.
