purpleronnie Posted 6 October 2011 Posted 6 October 2011 I believe the total for all coalition deaths is 2,676 (oct 2011) - America with 1,723 have the highest and the UK have the 2nd highest.
Finnegan Posted 6 October 2011 Posted 6 October 2011 Not to make light of those deaths but it's a war and they're all volunteers. What are we expecting? Them to go out and get free hugs? Who's counting Afghan military deaths? I imagine it's a lot, LOT more. To go back to another Bill Hicks, what were the numbers from the first Gulf War? Something like 150000 Iraqi military deaths to 79 American. Crazy.
Dr The Singh Posted 6 October 2011 Posted 6 October 2011 Add to that the Afghan civilians... That's collateral damage, so isn't taken into account!!!

Dr The Singh Posted 6 October 2011 Posted 6 October 2011 What are we even fighting for anyway? Depends on which way you want to look at it: 1. Getting rid of the Taliban which harbour a terrorist group (al quada), for our safety and the democracy of Afghan or the more plausable 2. Creation, control of the oil pipeline from the middle east to the part of the world that has the largest demand Asia (India, China, Far East)

To ensure Jodie Marsh has enough supply of her afghan cow steriods!!

Creation, control of the oil pipeline from the middle east to the part of the world that has the largest demand Asia (India, China, Far East) Are the Taliban actually terrorists themselves? Because if they are, surely they won't mind if they die, so, we can't actually ever beat them, because they will always risk their life?
Dr The Singh Posted 6 October 2011 Posted 6 October 2011 Are the Taliban actually terrorists themselves? Because if they are, surely they won't mind if they die, so, we can't actually ever beat them, because they will always risk their life? Taliban are tribal natives to the region, who have a different perspective on life, so if they are terrorist they are terorising there own people. So as foriegners who are we to interfere!! No one's a winner in this war, cus the Taliban will still remain, and a US appointed government will still rule. In this type of guerilla war, the effort and resources required are probably beyond a 'poor $$$$' US. The outcome will be a weak truce between the Talibs and the central Afghan government, with further bloodshed!!! The US and there arrogance has just cost them again, will the US ever learn, NEVER!!
Trav Le Bleu Posted 6 October 2011 Posted 6 October 2011 One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. After all, Nelson Mandela was a terrorist... wasn't he? You'll notice I said "man" cos we're talking about the Taliban here.
BoneDog Posted 6 October 2011 Posted 6 October 2011 Let's not forget the number of seriously injured soldiers from around the world which I think is into the tens of thousands. And the hundreds of thousands of civilian casualties. It's been worth it for a very few people around the world but not for most.
davieG Posted 6 October 2011 Author Posted 6 October 2011 I'm aware that many, many others have died and that soldiers being volunteers aren't forced to fight but this article was specifically about UK deaths which means that they have in fact died representing me. I've yet to hear a clear cut reason and justification as to why we are there, vague statements about fighting terrorism/taliban seems meaningless, unsubstantiated and doesn't wash with me. I find our involvement extremely disconcerting.
Steven Posted 6 October 2011 Posted 6 October 2011 UK Military Deaths in Afghanistan - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-10634173 No but this is the price for slavishly following US foreign policy. Vote Ron Paul 2012. <_<
The People's Hero Posted 6 October 2011 Posted 6 October 2011 'We lost davey in the korean war, I still dont know what for' Great song and echo the sentiment.
FoxyPV Posted 6 October 2011 Posted 6 October 2011 It was never worth it in the first place and nothing has changed.
