MON in talks

26m Taylor blew on crap, what MON could have done with that if he stook around.

Was it really that much?

I find it extremely odd that we didn't have a replacement lined up when Sven was sacked, pretty much hedging all our bets on MON, and now perhaps he doesn't want to come.

Go along with that, always thought that Sven would have gone 'upstairs' and a decent coach brought in, afterall he has done a fantastic job but just failed on the playing side. + fantastic world ambassador

Seemed logical as he's being paid for the year to sit on a beach.

Fact that he possibly wasn't offered this told me that the likes of MON was coming in who would not work around a DOF.

May be a cunning plan going on, but on the face of it all seems a bit daft.

Fair enough, but we at least should have of had some sort of contingency plan knowing that if MON didn't come we would of got our second choice whoever that may of been.

You don't know they didn't already have a list. As I said, these things usually take time. The quick appointment of Sven is not how it's worked usually.

Thats the figure thats tatooed on my brain, may be slightly out.

Several Wembly runs, Coco Cola cups, Lucrative play offs, decent run in the prem etc etc etc must of been so much dosh coming in under MON, massive happy days .......then we go skint!!!

Martin did go to the Belfrey, I know someone who isn't interested in football who told me he seen him in!

Don't rule this out yet...

GTIF said that as well the Thais are not going to tell us who there talking to until the deal is done!

Bought Darren Eadie, Graham Fenton, Mark Robbins, Arnar Gunnlaugsson... oh hang on.

Exactly, O'Neill bought loads of dross but the difference was he made them play as a team and got us punching above our weight. Taylor bought just as much pony but was a poor manager to boot. O'Neill didn't spend well at Villa either, but he will find a way of getting his 11 to win matches.

This is interesting perhaps we are waiting on MON to make a decision either way( or maybe he has who knows?), and in the mean time we are drawing up other candidates should MON not accept the job.

Silly boy.

Shall I start with Gerry Tagget for £0.00

If talks do happen with MON maybe you would like to sit in on them and point out his abysmal signings.

I can't post without you coming out with some meaningless comment, now do your trousers up, move away from your PC and get a life

I wouldn't say he bought in loads of dross. Maybe at Villa, but certainly not at Leicester. Fair enough Fenton wasn't up to much and neither was Gunnlaugsson but other than those two I can't think of any more examples. Eadie was a quality player, but far too injury prone and as I mentioned earlier, Robins was a McGhee signing. In fact, I am racking my brain to think of this so-called "dross" he bought in. Off the top of my head, Ullathorne, Zagorakis, Gilchrist, Sinclair, Lennon, Izzett, Guppy, Impey, Elliott, Taggart, Cottee, Marshall, Claridge, Savage, Keller, Flowers, Collymore - all did a good job for us and can't be described as poor signings. That said, the name "Julian Watts" springs to mind and he I don't recall him being that great, but then again, not terrible either.

Supposedly now we want a " young dynamic boss" according to Fanhouse Percy

Are you saying Julian watts was a MON signing ??? Hahaha

If I remember rightly, he was initially signed on loan from Sheff Weds then joined permanently after we were promoted. He played in the '96 play-off final.

Keep coming on here and really wanna see, MARTIN TALKS, don't no if it's this time off year but all this silence is giving me the creeps!!

Same! I am very worried I just wish that MON would come out and make a statement, everyone seems to think he has said no. But MON hasn't said anything yet.

What I mean is that a lot of these players were poor because after they left Leicester they never scaled the heights they did with us, O'Neill has a gift of making average players play like world beaters. Take Phil Gilchrist for example or the youth lad Stuart Campbell, they were exceptional at PREMIER LEAGUE level at times for us and then they disappeared down the leagues in comparison. It was the players he signed for big money that he didn't fair so well with likes of Gunnlaugsson and Eadie. His record at Villa was suspect for me, but I can't fault what he did for us. Hero.

Steve Claridge has his say on the matter

http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/O-Neill-says-Leicester-City-star/story-13689179-detail/story.html

Claridge believes that O'Neill's first reaction would have been to say no, but he says City may be able to change his mind if they try hard enough.

He said: "His gut instinct would have been no. But it's like everything, if you show them you want them badly enough you can change their minds.

"I don't mean bowing down to them. But in life, if you are wanted and someone shows that, your mind can be changed.

"I know because sometimes I have had five or six clubs after me. And you go to the one you feel wants you the most.

"If the club say this is what we have to offer, that they can really work together and really want him, who knows, it might happen."

Claridge says the timing is right because O'Neill wants to get back into football a year after he quit Aston Villa. But he says City must tell O'Neill that he will not face the sack if he fails to get them promoted to the Premier League this season, and also plan properly for life in the top flight.

He said: "I don't think Martin would be in a position to be told that he has to get them up this year, and if not he is sacked.

"There would have to be a plan in place that can be carried out without any undue pressure.

"They said they wanted to go up last year, and this year. And that's fine, I understand that. But they have to be realistic. We all want to go up, but it can't be go up or get sacked.

"And you need to put things in place for when you get to the Premier League.

"You have to have five or six players in your team who can play at the next level. Because the most difficult thing is to go up and then try and buy a new team."

Asked what his gut instinct was about O'Neill, Claridge said: "My head says no and my heart says hopefully yes. And my heart is probably a lot cleverer than my head."

He insisted O'Neill would galvanise the club if he returned.

"When has he not done a good job? You tell me when he has not done a good job.

"Of course he would do a fantastic job. They say never go back in football but he would galvanise the club completely.

"He has bought himself a degree of latitude with what he has done before, so that would stand him in good stead.

"On the other hand do you want to spoil a beautiful relationship?

"I get a feeling that the longer it goes on the more chance they have of getting him.

"Don't forget, Martin, long term, would still have one eye on the England job.

"I think it would have to be right in every sense of the word. I'm probably 60-40 thinking he won't do it.

"But I wouldn't rule it out completely. I know Martin is looking to get back in, so the timing is good, let's put it that way."
