cc_star Posted 1 November 2011 Posted 1 November 2011 If Clark gets Huddersfield up, other clubs will be interested in him & he'll still have a chance at progressing his career anyway, why risk coming here where he'll (presumably) be sacked in the summer if we don't go up?
themotivator Posted 1 November 2011 Posted 1 November 2011 A good mate said he saw KK and LC at Banks road newsagents at 6.00 am yesterday morning.... So who knows!!! buying pogs
Ric Flair Posted 1 November 2011 Posted 1 November 2011 He has never said that. And why should he? he comes from another part of he country, has never played for Town and is doing a job which he obviously sees as a stepping stone to bigger and better things. He professes loyalty to Dean Hoyle for the backing but that is all he has ever said. He will go if and when the right offer comes in, it may be now, but I don't honestly think the Leicester board want him. I'm hoping you're right. Our 15 year old owner of the club has stated that the next manager needs to 'know' how to get out of this division and Clark hasn't managed at this level, but then again neither has Mark Hughes the other favourite for the job. I don't think the bookies or the media have a clue about what's going on because the Thai's are a fairly unknown crew. It's leaving everyone baffled.

Similarly, if he doesn't get Huddersfield up this year he will almost certainly be sacked and he's out of football for a while, with a much less lucrative compensation package..

Because we are a bigger challenge than Huddersfield and it is a measure of his ambition that he wants to test himself at a bigger club.

Despite supposed reasonable backing he's on his 3rd attempt at getting out of the division below. Doesn't instill great confidence, whereas plenty of people do it on their 1st attempt; Pearson for 1, Lambert, Adkins, Ferguson, Poyet & many many others even Chrissy P looks like he can in his 1st full season this year. The unbeaten run is an achievement that shouldn't be underestimated but is too much being made of it? If the Thai's want experience in this division it has to be Davies, if they want a 'name' who's done well it has to be Hughes & if they want up & coming it has to be OGS... Clark has been up & coming for nearly 3 years & still hasn't arrived.

Guest Posted 1 November 2011 Posted 1 November 2011 Martin O'Neill had never achieved any kind of promotion before he came to Leicester either... And neither had many managers who failed to get promotion with their new clubs. That is not an argument.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 1 November 2011 Posted 1 November 2011 Even though you are pissed and quite direct in what you say I actually agree with some of your sentiments, however questioning the accuracy of this is not fair. (Stringer has tweeted that its pretty much either him or Hughes) Im really struggling to be nearly half as positive as the people on here about the possibility of this. I said from the moment we sacked Sven, unless we have someone (mainly O'Neill) lined up to take the reigns then I dont agree with the sacking. I still dont. Im not saying his record was good, but you have really got to question whether someone coming in would do any better, thats the important question. I do not understand all the optimism around Lee Clark. I mean, he has done well at Huddersfield but as someone has rightly pointed out he has been their three years and to be honest a club of their size in that tier should be challenging for promotion year on year. In fact when its come to crunch time, his team has failed, and non so spectacularly than what i witnessed on a grey day at Old Trafford last summer. He has a good win percentage and this unbeaten run, don't get me wrong but still - Is Lee really the solution? A young up and coming league one manager. What do we need? Well the owners want promotion, this year. So we need a manager who can take the club from mid table to the top six, ideally top two and have an instant impact on the team. We are not so far behind but still, there is catching up to do. He took over from Stan Ternent on the 12/12/08 and finished in 9th place in his first season with Hudders. Im not convinced. I would question whether the fact your not convinced is a key plus, as if appointed, Lee will know he will need to prove himself at this level to the owners, fans and players alike. Another plus is the fact that he has had time to build and try out his ideas at Huddersfield and has formulated a team that I understand plays attractive football whilst being hard to beat so he will have clear idea of what is needed to turn a team from inconsistant to a consitant force. He has also had a hand in bringing young players through and developing them into exciting prospects which is another big plus considering the level of investment our club has put in youth but the quite disapointing return we are getting in terms of seeing them break into the first team (Andy King aside - and god, I sound like Thracian). You question why Huddersfield have not obtained promotion from League One yet with their standing, however, they have had to contend with the likes of us, Leeds, Southampton, Sheffield Wednesday, Norwich etc all playing in that league for one or two seasons and so they have never had the squad or budget to be classed as clear favourite to exit the league from the top end and as we all know, playoffs can be a bit of a lottery - why else would Bradford have played in the Premier League. So in short, I'm not questioning your right to inconvinced, far from it I think you should, BUT don't necessarly construe that as a bad thing! Oh and in terms of sacking Sven - had to be done, he showed as Man City fans warned us he has no plan b. Teams were finding us predictable and that Birmingham game was like watching paint dry in the first half. The owners have not spent the best part of £20 million plus to see their team play the turgid football that was shown that day and I think that game started the ball rolling for the decision, with the Millwall game being the one that put the nails in the coffin so to speak.
Babylon Posted 1 November 2011 Posted 1 November 2011 Martin O'Neill had never achieved any kind of promotion before he came to Leicester either... Apart from narrowly missing out on three consecutive promotions with Wycombe obviously.
Stay Positive Posted 1 November 2011 Posted 1 November 2011 Apart from narrowly missing out on three consecutive promotions with Wycombe obviously. Which means he didn't achieve it, like I said.
Libertine Posted 1 November 2011 Posted 1 November 2011 Which means he didn't achieve it, like I said.
Stay Positive Posted 1 November 2011 Posted 1 November 2011 Ok i hold my hands up - I got my facts wrong, having just looked at his stats...
Babylon Posted 1 November 2011 Posted 1 November 2011 Which means he didn't achieve it, like I said. You've had a 'mare.
Stay Positive Posted 1 November 2011 Posted 1 November 2011 You've had a 'mare. Not thinking straight - been up since 4am as my little boy threw up all over our bedsheets.
escos Posted 1 November 2011 Posted 1 November 2011 Lee Clark may have been backed well at HTAFC, but that doesn't always mean you can attract every player you want.
Corky Posted 1 November 2011 Posted 1 November 2011 I do think Clark will be a good manager, but he's not the right fit for us at the moment.

I accept what you're saying and I also accept the point about them having tough opposition for promotion. Peterborough have managed it twice having said that in the time Lee Clark has been there, who are a smaller club. Scunthorpe the once as well. So even though these teams have been down there, smaller clubs have managed to get up. The playoffs can be a bit of a lottery though, true. I don't want to be negative about the guy before he is here. In fact I hate the thought of being so. I just worry that if im not convinced then neither are a lot of people. I just feel he will be walking into a losing battle before hes even started with some fans, and if his first game for example was Leeds at home, and we lost 2-1, I wouldnt put it past a lot of people to start booing. (for the record I wouldn't) I guess you could say well why do a few boo's matter? Well . . .It seems the patience of the owners lasts about as long as the early boo boys. I think Lee Clark would be a good appointment for us a few years back . . but now with these mega rich owners and short term demands, I think we need someone who isn't going to require much time to build. While he might have learnt certain things at huddersfield, he still built his own team and he would be coming into a pretty different one here. And with Sven - ok point taken. So we need to get someone in who has got a plan B and plays good football. The thing to bear in mind is this needs to be achieved with Svens team. Im not sure right now, that there is many other people who could do it better with the team hes made. Give Lee Clark till Jan window ok - but what if we havent picked up in terms of league position by then? We could well be saying bye bye before hes spent a penny.
