Hull refuse us permission to approach Pearson

So we spent the last 18 months dismantling the squad that Pearson built and we are now going to reappoint him and wait for him to rebuild his former team? I don't have anything against Pearson, I think he is a good manager, but reappointing him now has made the last 18 months a complete waste of time. I am finding it difficult to get excited about this prospect.

It is clear that MON and Hughes are not interested in the job. Pretty disappointing.

Wake up! The past 18 months have been a waste of time hence why we're after yet another manager. Pearson should never have been allowed to leave, the Thai's realise this. They aren't as clueless as I was starting to think they were. MON doesnt want the gig, I find it embarrassing that our fans fool themselves in to thinking that he was desperate to come back and we want Pearson over him. They did it last year when Sven got it and MON was linked as per usual.

Pearson will get us up this season, he's the man for the job. Hughes was my first choice but it's doubtful he wanted to drop down to this level anyway. Come on Nigel, hand in your notice and come home my boy!

The more I think about it, the more I really don't want Pearson, to be honest.

I'd be supportive and open minded if he returned but it just feels like a huge step in the wrong direction.

It'll also feel very, very much like an attempt to appease the fans because they know we're all going rabid for a manager they can't get (O'Neill) and this may be the sentimental vote. Not sure how they can imply they want an experienced manager with a winning pedigree and then tap up a man with just a handful of seasons experience and a failed play-off bid on his CV at Championship level as his highest achievement.

I'm sure this is blasphemy to some of our resident knuckle-draggers but when you actually stop and look at Pearson compared to some of the other names on offer (and I even include Billy Davies in this,) he is a little under-whelming.

If Hughes is interested then why on gods green earth have we approached Hull? After MON, Hughes would be my preferred choice. If Sparky is interested and MON isn't then give him the chuffin job! Approaching Hull is a bizarre decision if Pearson is not first choice.

But how do we know we HAVE approached Hull? Could it be someone in their boardroom is trying to fend off any interest?

And are "Sky sources" any more reliable than BBC, Mirror or Mail ones?

I do see what you're saying, I'm not totally convinced by it all, though I think he's in the top 3 realistic choices.

Yes it's like Dallas when Bobby Ewing reappeared in the shower, he didn't die in the car accident. The last 18 months has just been a dream. Yes so I'm 40 and use to watch Dallas.

Love the name btw (oooooh Tommy Wright was one of my fave players)

And Dallas was bloody brill - used to rush home from school at lunchtime to watch it (and neighbours)..

I agree with feeling underwhelmed. My worry is that Pearson thought players like Hobbs and fryatt were good. Last nights highlights showed their faults for all to see ( faults you see week in week out ) fryatt to slow and missing a sitter, and Hobbs turned inside out for the second goal.

My only hope is that Pearson only signed these players because that's all he could sign, but god help us if we start to look at players like fryatt again.

Maybe with the money pearson can make a difference, who knows. I will of course get behind him but I do remain sceptical.

I agree with the poster above who said billy Davies. Proven promotion with teams, made a silk purse from a cows arse at forest and has a proven record of success. Can't see why Pearson would get it over him? Pearsons championship claim to fame is to make a team tough to beat ( but not score many ) and took us to the play off semis where he made a huge tactical boob in the home leg.

Hmmm. Not sure.

Some of you are so greedy. Who were you expecting? Benitez? Ancelotti? NP is a solid manager with solid Championship experience- and in my eyes, will be the one who gets us promoted.

I agree.....

Hughes looks a no-go

Pearson would do a good job IMO

He didn't have a lot of scope about Hobbs & Fryatt there was hardly a bucketful of cash around to get better and he got the best out of them. Not that I'm all that keen on his return.

I'm not convinced we've actually approached them they know that Pearson left us because he felt unwanted by Mandaric, with this statement he'll know that's not the case plus I don't believe he's the sort of guy that will walk unless he feels he's not wanted.

The not wanted story of why he left was a smokescreen to cover the fact he left because he's had a massive row with Lee Hoos.

Hoos is gone.....

I keep seeing things saying Pearson was too defensive, largely from the Sven brigade. Didn't we score more goals than any other side in the whole four leagues when we came up under him? If not we were close, as I recall. We scored two goals away from home in his last game - more than in our last four away games under Sven. And if the 0-0s at Cardiff and Middlesbrough, the 1-1 at Barnsley, the 0-2 at Birmingham (total number of shots on goal in those four games would be interesting to see) and the 0-3 home loss to Millwall were the sort of attacking football we want to see, then I'm really not sure people have thought this through!

As for the manager thing, when Levein left we approached three or four different clubs all in the space of a couple of days (Leeds for Blackwell, Preston for Davies, Watford for Boothroyd) and ended up with Rob Kelly! It only means we wish to speak to him, even if we choose to believe this.

Equally, if you are one of those proposing the smokescreen theory, surely this could be just another example?

What worries me is that the PR up to now has been bad. If City fans were expecting MON, you should do what we did last time round and let them down as quick as possible so not to encourage overly high expectations. If we end up with anyone other than Pearson, the only way this could work for the board in PR terms is that it could 'show' we've explored all avenues, and that they tried hard but ended up with Roy Keane.

It's quite possible, too, that O'Neill's conditions have been too demanding. It doesn't mean they aren't still on the table.

If fans want Pearson or O'Neill, and not Keane for instance, then today is a great opportunity to let the board know, especially if we can do it in a way which doesn't distract from events on the field (before the game, at half time, when all's wrapped up one way or the other etc.). It has been possible in the past for fans to impact on a board's decision.

Not greedy just hopeful, optimistic, fed up, bored, tired of the same old rubbish, if we want to dream about getting Oneil, Paisley, Busby, the special one, then bloody well let us. The reality of being a Leicester fan will finally kick in when we appoint. off down the pub before the game now come on BLUE ARMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok I'm really pi55ed off with this alleged approach, if its took 2 weeks to get this far to go for an ex manager, I've been checking this forum like every hour for a update for 2 weeks,

Why av hull done this today, to unsettled a rival team on a matchday?

Wot do I know, but my stomach is churning and getting frustrated.

Then why didn't they do something about it? Clearly the last 18 months have been a waste and Pearson should not have been allowed to leave but the point is he was. If we had made an approach to Hull sooner, before all the speculation about MON, Hughes etc then fine. But he clearly was not first choice. Thats what I find disappointing. Our top targets have turned us down and now we are looking at the next best option (and for the record I think Pearson probably is the next best option after MON and Hughes).

It is the lack of long term thinking and planning that I find troubling.

The interview I've seen on SSN sounds as much of a 'come-and-get-me' as Pearson could ever hope to muster.

It would be no major surprise to see him either hand in his notice or be placed on 'gardening leave' in the coming days.

The reason/reasons behind his leaving have now buggered off and we are now an attractive proposition.

I think this is sky journos being a bit lazy. Nothing on twitter, nothing on the superbly reliable Newsnow, and more importantly no major move at the bookies.

Yes he is favourite, but look how tight the top 4 are. Remember MON was 1-4 and Lee Clark was 1-5 at one point! Pearsons odds have not moved as much as I would expect with news like this.

Roy Keane as second favourite actually terrifies me.
