acooling08 Posted 26 November 2011 Posted 26 November 2011 Being fair to Pearson, and in the situation he's inherited, even I'd have taken four points from the first six and especially seeing as we lost 6-1 at Portsmouth last time out. That's not to mean Pearson should be satisfied and it's clear that he's not. We know the team he's inherited has problems. Personnel-wise we're short of at least one top striker at least one fast winger and that's just for starters. We're also way short of the sort of demoralisingly effective football that puts fear into opponents. Pearson picked a positive a side as he probably could today and we did enough to end a run of three successive home wins for Portsmouth even if we did need Kasper's brilliant best on a couple of occasions. For me that's an achievement. It's two games unbeaten under Pearson, four points in the bag and about as good as I'd dare hope for with the players available. The challenge now is to maintain that return while mending the faults. Nugent and Beckford are 2 of the best strikers in the League. You are so impatient mate; wait till Beckford hits form and we'll be laughing.
Hantsfox Posted 26 November 2011 Posted 26 November 2011 Is it only me that thought it was a fantastic performance? We were all over them from start to finish and they only scored because of a MASSIVE deflection. Beckford even started to look decent! I know it's frustrating not being able to win 2 on the bounce and getting into the play offs etc but it will come! Win at home and draw away is all we have to do so seriously, stop criticising and get behind the team like we were at the game today. It was not a poor performance at all hence why all our fans clapped and sang at the end as if we'd won. Do you really think we'd have come from a goal down away from home under Sven? KEEP THE FAITH LIKE!!! Well done on the park, and on the terraces.

As I said earlier, he's meant to be a prem striker.. What's all this about having to WAIT for him to get good? Why? And for how long?

As I said earlier, he's meant to be a prem striker.. What's all this about having to WAIT for him to get good? Why? And for how long? I disagree with this sentiment. By your logic, a good striker is always good and isn't allowed to have a poor run of form. I think all players have their ups and downs. He's shown form before, he can do again.
Number 6 Posted 26 November 2011 Posted 26 November 2011 Thrac has given credit where it's due in fairness. We all know Pearson's hands are somewhat tied until Jan.

There's been a hell of a lot of coming and goings and general upheaval during his short time with us. As he settles in, regains confidence and hopefully plays in a settled side, then we will see the best of him. I will continue to back the man, he WILL come good.
Dan Posted 26 November 2011 Posted 26 November 2011 Got back half hour ago. My talking points; - Overall, a decent result. Not great, not bad, decent. - Pearson's shown more positivity today than Sven's shown in an away game all season. I agree with Thrac, the fact we've gone out with our main (only) winger, two up front, and often looked pretty positive when in posession shows though, no we didn't go all guns blazing but we didn't look scared to attack. It was our final ball which was the letdown, crossing was totally not good enough and our shooting bar the obvious from Nugent, was woeful. - We didn't defend too badly, typical Pearson again that the opposition hold on to the ball for a long time when attacking us and we often clear it late on. Pretty sure this was typical of his first reign here. - The goal was a cracking move, brilliant link up from Howard and Nugent and a cracking finish too. - Our fans were very disappointing, numbers were pretty impressive (that was well over the 1,100 I got told yesterday by LCFC) but the noise, don't know if it's just where I was, but pretty subdued, hardly anyone seemed up for it. Theirs were half-decent, however if they were in our ground and didn't have their band they would be absolutely terrible. - Happy enough but not over the moon, there's still work to do but Pearson's making the most of our squad, I think the next month shouldn't be read into too much anyway and any critics now are being pathetically unreasonable. When he's got his own squad again come January, we'll be laughing, I'm absolutely certain we'll perform now we've got him and I'd even tip him to be the man to halt Southampton's home run. Maybe a bit too far? But who knows, a decent start but very good considering the circumstances and we all know he'll only get better. - Probably go unchanged again for Blackpool.

Beckford was shite (as most people on here agreed) well before Sven was being ousted. He was a Sven signing, yes has had an injury.. But has had games to show himself. Why couldn't he play well from the start of the season? Like many strikers do. No reason really... Nugent has also been injured but has been much better than Beckford I remain not convinced and hope to be proven wrong

Happy Fox Posted 26 November 2011 Posted 26 November 2011 Leicester boss Pearson admitted failing to win games like this will hurt his side’s chances of promotion. He said: “We need to raise the bar and strive to win tight games like this. “The fact we have been waiting for back-to-back wins for a considerable time shows why we have not really asserted ourselves on the league yet.”

Salieri Posted 26 November 2011 Posted 26 November 2011 I've just read it back and see what you mean.. Good. You make some decent points (now and again) but the way you set it out is as if you're talking to a moron i.e breaking it down into little sentences in such a way that otherwise it would be just too much for the average man to ingest without their head exploding. Yes, there are people on here like that, but the majority can probably handle your input without the need for the (patronizing) layout.

Brooksy Posted 26 November 2011 Posted 26 November 2011 Must only be me who thought our fans were fairly decent today.
JmorsonLCFC Posted 26 November 2011 Posted 26 November 2011 well i was there & people's opinions on the radio are completely different! i thought we won the game and shouldve won with the amount of chances we had! Good point away from home and the majority left happy

marbelladave Posted 26 November 2011 Posted 26 November 2011 Evening all. Relatively easy journey home, so a few thoughts before bedtime. First half was scrappy, dross would not be too strong a word. Both sides played it long and constructive play was absolutely at a minimum, would not have minded our spoiling style if Pompey had looked likely to trouble us but in the main they didn't. I was a little disappointed by our tactics, there were opportunities to get the ball down and play but even with two men up, we made no real attempt to do so. Pompey started to dominate possession towards the end of the first half but that said they really did not get a sight on our goal, all in all a frustrating first half to watch, but getting to half time 0-0 was a result of sorts….. After half time it was all change, within seconds Pompey were threatening Schmeichel's goal, and this was to be the pattern for the next 15-20 minutes. City were limited to the occasional breakaway, generally it was the defence getting the workout with a couple of exceptional saves from Schmeichel keeping the score 0-0. With about 15 minute to go the pressure finally told, a shot from Norris glancing off Mills and leaving the keeper helpless gave Pompey a lead they just about deserved given their second half pressure. But NFP's 'new' city team doesn't give up and they were level within a few minutes. A super pass from Mills was touched on by Nugent to Howard whose return put Nugent through to hit a shot from the edge of the box to sneak in by the post, the keeper looked like he should have done better, but then maybe it was just too well placed…… City were now playing a 4-3-3, with Nugent (left) and Dyer (right) pushing up alongside Howard, Danns playing in front of King / Wellens and for a few minutes it really looked like the momentum was all with City. However city started to tire, Dyer and Nugent were pushed deep and the final few minutes were more even, both sides looking for a win but neither with the energy or the determination to get it. In many ways this was a typical NFP performance, a scrappy game that we could well have lost after going behind with 15 minutes left yet rallied to get a point…..

Leicester_Loyal Posted 26 November 2011 Posted 26 November 2011 Just got home. Great goal from Nugent. Pompey are a good team at home, won the last 3 on the bounce before today. Good point tbh. Roll on Blackpool.
