Webbo Posted 26 November 2011 Posted 26 November 2011 Anyone notice that Nigel is a lot more pleasant in his post match interviews than last around. I wonder if the board have told him he must or he's mellowed a bit.

You would be more pleasant if you were on treble the wages from last time and had a huge signing on bonus recently deposited in your bank account.

z-layrex Posted 26 November 2011 Posted 26 November 2011 Very scrappy game. Thought we were slightly better but a draw is the right result. Kasper really is an incredible keeper. Oh and their ground is a ****ing shithole.
z-layrex Posted 26 November 2011 Posted 26 November 2011 On thr ferry home with about 300 Portsmouth fans. Keeping my head down. I thought their support was very poor - they seem noisier on the ferry. They only sang briefly immediately after scoring. They were shit the whole game except after scoring.
Thracian Posted 26 November 2011 Posted 26 November 2011 Being fair to Pearson, and in the situation he's inherited, even I'd have taken four points from the first six and especially seeing as we lost 6-1 at Portsmouth last time out. That's not to mean Pearson should be satisfied and it's clear that he's not. We know the team he's inherited has problems. Personnel-wise we're short of at least one top striker at least one fast winger and that's just for starters. We're also way short of the sort of demoralisingly effective football that puts fear into opponents. Pearson picked a positive a side as he probably could today and we did enough to end a run of three successive home wins for Portsmouth even if we did need Kasper's brilliant best on a couple of occasions. For me that's an achievement. It's two games unbeaten under Pearson, four points in the bag and about as good as I'd dare hope for with the players available. The challenge now is to maintain that return while mending the faults.

I wonder if the board have told him he must or he's mellowed a bit. I'm not sure it is down to that. He started improving that aspect at Hull - by "improving" I mean treating the press with respect and answering their questions with good grace instead of acting like he didn't want to waste being there. And it was that which encouraged me most about his return - confirmed with his early interview about more expansive football - that he might just be a man prepared to criticise his own performance and make improvements if it made him a bettter manager. Alright, today might be seen as typical of Pearson on away days. Low risk. Contain and counter. But he did pick a winger, he did play with two strikers and he did give us a reasonable chance of winning for all Kasper's heroics. It was a big improvement on defeat by 6-1.
dave the caveman Posted 26 November 2011 Posted 26 November 2011 Really poor result. Poor, poor, poor poor poor. Portsmouth are near the bottom of the league. An away draw against them is simply not good enough. We should be beating all the teams in the bottom half away. OK I can accept drawing away to the top half teams. But we should be beating them all at home. Anything less than P46 W34 D12 L0 Pts 114 is a failure in my book. Pearson out, obviously.

What a bizzare post given the absolute slating you were giving Pearson at every single opportunity just two weeks ago. Didn't expect someone with such a high regard for his own opinion to be so comically fickle.
Foxes Blue Blood Posted 26 November 2011 Posted 26 November 2011 draws against teams that are near the bottom of the league They may be near the bottom & we may be near the top but there are only 6 points between us!!!
Captain... Posted 26 November 2011 Posted 26 November 2011 Positives from listening to the game: We kept it tight in the first half, came out fired up in the second half. We fought back from a goal down, we didn't give up and let our heads drop. Good to see (hear) some tactical changes too, playing Nugent out wide left, Dyer wide right and Danns playing behind Big Steve, sounds like a plan B to me. Also good that Dyer was switching wings and able to exploit Mattock's lack of pace. Kasper Negatives: Didn't really cause much of a threat all game, and were wasteful with set pieces. Didn't understand taking Gally off, not a great game by the sounds of it and for sure they were keeping a close eye on him after last week, but he can score goals from nothing. He is also our best set piece taker and bringing on Steve makes no sense to take off the only person who can take a good free kick. Towards the end it sounded like Dyer was knackered why not bring on Fernandes or Bamba to help see out the game. NP always used to frustrate me with his substitutions I can see this time around will be no different. Didn't win. All in all a decent point, but it makes the Blackpool game a biggie on Tuesday need to win to kick start our season.

Father Ted Posted 26 November 2011 Posted 26 November 2011 We are only one of 4 teams out of 9 to come away with ANYTHING from Fratton Park this season which is a positive imo. Their home record is better than ours.
Fox92 Posted 26 November 2011 Posted 26 November 2011 I'm fed up of caller's phoning and having a pop at Pearson already. He has been back for two games, both of which we haven't lost in, and has to work with a squad which is not his, as made by Sven. And it annoys me even more that the caller's will critisize yet not actually attending the game. Today it sounded like we had character, coming back to score and nick a point at a very hard place to get something (with 4 teams out of 9 getting something at Fratton Park). Good point in my opinion, even more so if we beat Blackpool.

steveherbe Posted 26 November 2011 Posted 26 November 2011 Sound's like we stole a draw, but I 'spose could have been worse U must be joking! Pompey playing 4 5 1 at home? They were looking for a point, only 1 team wanted to win it, and that was us, I know, I was there. Great performance from the lads, we're looking like a real team now. Beckford was good, as was Dyer ( surprise surprise) Lloyd frightened the life out of twattock second half, embarrassing - but fun - to watch. More to come later if required.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 26 November 2011 Posted 26 November 2011 Good steady point away from home, Tuesday's game is important
Basingstoke Fox Posted 26 November 2011 Posted 26 November 2011 I'm happy with the point. It could well have been more but a point at Fratton Park is a good result. Brilliant goal from Nugent. I will never ever ever ever know how the hell Kasper save the rebound from the bar. I was in genuine disbelief. I've seen us play better at away games under Sven but I actually felt like we could've won today. Well done lads. Better luck next time.
Salieri Posted 26 November 2011 Posted 26 November 2011 Decent point, not the best performance but had a feeling it would be a tight game. Four out of our next six are home and very winnable, our two aways are at Donny and Dull, again, nothing to fear there. We should go into the New Year firmly rooted in the Play Off area and if Walsh can work his magic in the transfer market in January (WIDTH) then we can really kick on towards the top two.
Hantsfox Posted 26 November 2011 Posted 26 November 2011 Good point at a difficult place to go, team spirit was excellent against a Pompey team playing on the break at home. Kasper was brilliant and i thought Wellens had a good game, looked like he had a point to prove. On a last note;- Portsmouth council let Pompey build a new ground, what a shit hole!!
funkyrobot Posted 26 November 2011 Posted 26 November 2011 Poor result! A point at Pompey is fine Sven
Tommy G Posted 26 November 2011 Posted 26 November 2011 Didn't Pearson play 4-3-3 last spell here? Swear it was Wellens - King - Spearing Waggy - Howard - Gally Correct me if I'm wrong. Might be interesting when hes made a cpl of signing he will revert to a 4 - 2 - 3 - 1 away from home if we buy a decent target man. Would be much better in getting draws and nicking a win away. I think 4 - 4 - 2 is a bit exposed away from home from all teams and I thinki he has to learn from the master SAF who sets his team up dependant on the opposition and whether Utd are home or away. Just a thought. Anway well done boys, can't complain with 4 points from 6.
