RumbleFox Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 Just wanted to know what people think of Gervais' new show? It seems to have caused an uproar! I love Ricky, like really love him. I think the Office is the greatest sitcom ever made but I am not sure about this show. I certainly don't think it's offensive it's just not as funny as The Office or Extras. Discuss. X
SMX11 Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 I thought the Johnny Depp episode was brilliant, the most recent one wasn't the best but there is always things in each episode that makes you laugh.

X Saw one episode (the first I think), didn't think it'd be any good but I actually quite enjoyed it.
Finchy Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 Definitely not offensive, some of the reviews i've read are completely missing the point, it's not making fun of Warwick Davies and dwarfism. The problem I have with it is, it's too much like The Office and Extras, in fact it's like a mix between the two. Warwick Davies acts like David Brent and it has the situations of Extras. If I hadn't seen the other 2 shows I think I would love Life's Too Short, but it just seems like a weaker version of the other shows. I guess it doesn't have the originality that made the other shows great.
Rocky Dennis Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 im with you, I really love The Office & Extras and the Podcasts, The XFM shows are extremely funny also, I have listened to them all at least 5 times. Life's too short just isnt that funny, it seems to be about Ricky bragging about how many famous mates he's got, he'd already done that to a point with Extras but at least that was funny. I really wanted to like it but I just dont, Warwick is pretty good but the whole thing does not work for me, he seems to be re-hashing jokes and awkward situations, most of which he has done before. The joke last week about Barry giving them a quote for The Office was excruciatingly unfunny!

MikeyT Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 Probably offensive to some Dwarf people, but any one else i highly doubt would find it offensive. And i agree, the Johnny Depp episode was funny.
SMX11 Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 When he made him dance it was one of the funniest things I'd ever seen. brilliant moment
RumbleFox Posted 1 December 2011 Author Posted 1 December 2011 I am still not sure. The Liam Neeson scene was as funny as anything I have ever seen in my entire life and I want to like it so much there is just something that does not quite work that I can't put my finger on. I like it, I just don't love it. X
rico Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 Last week when HBC couldn't look at him and he had to stand in a bin
MikeyT Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 Last week when HBC couldn't look at him and he had to stand in a bin "It"???
rico Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 another quality moment was when he was hired for that wedding and he had to dress up as an Ewok / teddy bear
Babylon Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 Some bits have been brilliant and other bits rather lame. It's watchable.
purpleronnie Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 When he made him dance it was one of the funniest things I'd ever seen. That was the only funny scene in tat episode I actually prefered the first episode I didnt think depp was amusing at all. The third one was pretty weak too. its just a little person being Andy Millman/david brent, although it has the odd amusing scene overall its pretty poor, we've seen it all before in the office and extras. But I'll end up watching them all.
StanSP Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 another quality moment was when he was hired for that wedding and he had to dress up as an Ewok / teddy bear I was cringing when he was making that speech!
I am Rod Hull Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 When he made him dance it was one of the funniest things I'd ever seen. I dont often pause and rewind stuff but i did when he danced.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNCOhWaaO_E
21st Century Fox Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 I can't believe how many critics have missed the point by so far. I really didn't think much of the first episode other than the Liam Neeson cameo but that felt crowbared in, but the other episodes have been much better because everything else around the celebrity cameo part didn't feel like filler and actually had more plot.
Guest MattP Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 I dont often pause and rewind stuff but i did when he danced.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNCOhWaaO_E I've gone again here now "urgghhhhh, evil toilet dwarf" :crylaugh:
The Doctor Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 Not a fan, although I don't really find any of Ricky Gervais' stuff funny - The Office was OK, but other than that it's generally be dull and boring.

The Doctor Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 really? Didnt enjoy Extras or Idiot Abroad? I can't stand Idiot Abroad, it's painful to watch. Extras was a bit of a "meh" show, for want of a better phrase, some of it could be quite funny but it was, in the main, about as funny as AIDS.

Extras was a bit of a "meh" show, for want of a better phrase, some of it could be quite funny but it was, in the main, about as funny as AIDS. I thought Extras was even better than the office, I love people taking the piss out of themselves.

The sweet irony of this is that the phrase "as funny as AIDS" is so overused and cliché that it is, in fact, as funny as AIDS
Webbo Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 It's not so much a sitcom, more of a collection of sketches, some are good others not so. The second episode was the best so far.
