Langston Posted 12 December 2011 Posted 12 December 2011 I quite like Beckford (under Pearson), it's become more obvious that the attitude is in fact alright, he can't be blamed if we don't play to his strengths, or the service to him in general is piss poor. He's clearly not a striker who likes the ball to feet.
Spiritwalker Posted 12 December 2011 Posted 12 December 2011 Watching him on Saturday,I noticed him make quite a few decent 'off the ball' runs that were ignored by his team mates. I'm not saying we should lump it forward at every opportunity but I think he would benefit if we got the ball forward earlier from time to time.
yag101 Posted 14 December 2011 Posted 14 December 2011 Surely the last thing we need is to waste an entire player on Beckford in a 4-4-2, lazily wandering around waiting for 'service', when apart from finishing chances when he feels like it, he offers very little. When we don't have the ball, he isn't exactly the kind of player who likes to close down, and when we do have it, his touch is shocking, his teamwork is poor, which is mostly why he's so poor at having the ball played to his feet. If we're trying to develop more of an expansive, passing, possession based football at this club, Beckford at this stage acts as a bit of a hindrance. Football is a team game, played by 11 players.
MPH Posted 14 December 2011 Posted 14 December 2011 Most footballers are tossers. They dgaf about what the fans think. If you seriously think cheering or booing a guy in his mid-20s who is a millionaire for kicking a ball around is going to make the slightest bit of difference to his mentality then you need to get out more. You could cheer, boo, whistle, or not turn up at all. It wouldn't make a difference. Footballers are way more sensitive than people think. they are real people. Being jealous over their money wont make them less of a person.... Its not his fault someone is willing to pay him the wage he is on... Are you honestly telling me if someone came to you asking you to go work for their company and offered to tripple your wages, you would turn round and tell them " no.. dont worry son, you keep your money... im not worth that much... no no.. its ok... i'll just keep the same wage..." Yeah right. Gary Speed is a clear example that you can have pretty much everything you need monetary wise.. yet if something is wrong then money just wont fix it.. I mean... who's the fool, here... Beclford for taking the wages offered to him.. or you for thinking somehow a huge bank balance suddenly makes someone inhumane with an inability to feel emotions? Do you HONESTLY think he doesnt want to reach the top of his game?
Sean Iliffe Posted 14 December 2011 Posted 14 December 2011 when he learns to pass to another blue shirt and stop missing sitters i will back him but at the min he is awfull!
nikedmands Posted 14 December 2011 Posted 14 December 2011 i personally am a massive fan of Beckford. His runs off the ball are constantly ignored and his work rate is second to none. I get what you mean about 'Super Steve' also and yes he is a good target man, but it irritates me how we always resort to 'hoof ball' every time he strides onto the pitch. Keep the ball down and with the players we have we will be strong contenders for the promotion push!

The reason 'Super Steve' comes on after 65-75 minutes is usually because our original tactic isn't working. Surely its good to have a plan B of the longer ball instead of just passing the ball neatly up to the final third then losing it which happens on a regular basis?
wellyfox Posted 14 December 2011 Posted 14 December 2011 Or we could just play loud music non-stop to drown out the boos and moans everyone likes a bit of loud music in fact get rid of jobber build a stage in K block and have bands playing for 90 minutes. Why Play it get a band in. AC/DC first please Top
davieG Posted 14 December 2011 Posted 14 December 2011 Why Play it get a band in. AC/DC first please Top That's what I said
wellyfox Posted 14 December 2011 Posted 14 December 2011 That's what I said Sorry dG I took it you ment over the tanoy system. But anyway TOP AC/DC first PLSE
City Fox Posted 15 December 2011 Posted 15 December 2011 2 Goals in 13 Games. 2 in 14 actually There are better strikers out there available to us. Were sitting 9th for a reason and the main reason for that is because the players on the pitch are not doing it. How do people plan to fix the problems by not changing the personel? This squad isn't good enough to win promotion and that's a fact so we need new blood and one of our main problems has been scoring goals. So lets get rid of Kasper to solve that problem...
OriginalRobboFOX Posted 15 December 2011 Posted 15 December 2011 I have been looking at Beckford more than any other player in the past few weeks and can anyone else see that he is looking sharper and close to getting a goal? Once he gets a couple of goals in a run of games his confidence will be sky high and he will start scoring for fun! Let's start encouraging the lad rather than booing his every move. This does not happen....

Surely its good to have a plan B of the longer ball instead of just passing the ball neatly up to the final third then losing it which happens on a regular basis? why not use Super Steve from the off and have a go! Then use Beckford later on when the games bedded in 50-60mins when Steve's knackered Pearson tends to leave players on the pitch once picked and only changes it round later on some times it seems to me it's far to late for a player to get the pace of a game reactive rather than proactive in my opinion beleive me Beckford knows where the goal is and is a top player who's just settling in
bluesbrothers Posted 16 December 2011 Posted 16 December 2011 Right, I've been criticising Beckford too these past weeks, but he is winning me over. Reason? He keeps getting into goalscoring positions. He keeps shooting. I believe he's hit the post 4 times in the past 3 games? If those 4 had gone in, he'd suddenly be god to most people on here. And i've not even mentioned the shots that have drawn some quality saves.44 So I'm done getting on Beck's back.
JadeFalcon Posted 16 December 2011 Posted 16 December 2011 if he's playing this weekend i expect a minimum of one goal from him, otherwise as far as i'm concerned he can pack his backs and **** off

Do you HONESTLY think he doesnt want to reach the top of his game? There's a diference between wantng to do well and really caring what the fans think. I'm sure he does want to do well (though he's going to struggle with his attitude at times) but all this bollocks about 'doing it for the fans' is not true. I'm sure they somewhat appreciate it when their name is chanted or they say something good about them but in truth they mainly see us as an irritant that is 'part and parcel of the game', adding more pressure on them. They don't really understand how fans feel because they mostly aren't proper football fans themselves, it's a job to them. So anytime the fans are negative they seem to have a dig when they don't really understand why people are being negative. Beckford was apparently very surprised when he was booed but if he was a football fan he'd understand why people did it.

City Fox Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 Thank god Pearson sees it to and dropped him 3 shots on target the whole game and 0 shots of any kind from Beckford in the 13+ minutes on the ptich Time to go. £4m your having a laugh This doesn't mean I'm totally anti Beckford. Howard, Nugent and the rest should be transfer listed after that shambles

fleckneymike Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 Up to 4 depending on appearances I heard but hopefully it doesn't get to that No it's just 2.5 million
Maybes Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 Apparently some of our fans jeered him when he came on yesterday? Is this true?
lcfcsnow Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 He's just another DJ Campbell I said that at the time, some managers just haven't got a clue, it was obviously a signing out of desperation and now we're lumbered with him.
