bmt Posted 13 January 2012 Posted 13 January 2012 The problem with Beckford is his control is horrific and his game is based on instinctiveness and snap shots. Look at all of his goals for Leeds and they often involve one touch which is a shot or header. Likewise his best chances at Leicester have been shots on the turn and headers. I think he'll be a success at this level again but he's quite limited as a player and confidence seems to be key with him. He can say what he wants about only weak people feel pressure and he might think he's not under pressure but it's clear that he's not playing with a free mind. He's an old fashioned poacher with a bit of pace but a woeful touch. He needs deliveries he can run on to not balls played behind him or into his feet infront of the opposition back 4. He needs deliveries behind their back 4 to receive the ball on the run and whilst their defenders are turning, in order to replicate what we saw at leeds.

I can't beleive he is a poacher with some of the misses I had seen from him.

Ric Flair Posted 13 January 2012 Posted 13 January 2012 I can't beleive he is a poacher with some of the misses I had seen from him. I'd be inclined to agree with you, however some of the misses that Yakubu was guilty of last season and then how lethal he's been back in the PL for a shocking outfit is incredible. That said, he was still prolific for us, even with his armoury of missed chances. Beckford's missing plenty and not putting any away. At Leeds he built a reputation for being clinical and only needing 1-2 chances a game to score, I think he's in a big slump. You don't score 10 goals in 38 games at PL level (I know 2 were in the cup as well) for a team that barely scores in Everton if you're as crap as what's being served up currently. He's under-performing massively and Pearson needs to make him take responsibility for that and to improve.

Hinckleyfox Posted 17 January 2012 Posted 17 January 2012 I've been waiting and waiting for this to happen so I could post on this thread - shock horror, a decent striker gets service and scores goals! Yes its only one game but maybe this will start to get people thinking about where our REAL problems lie. Now everyone get off the lads back for a good few games and lets see what he can do with a bit of confidence! Take a bow Jermaine!

I'd be more inclined to say, shock he scores and gains some confidence and then the flood gates open for him. The lack of service is a myth. If he follows tonight up with a few more in quick succession then he'll be lethal. He's that sort of player.
Houdini Logic Posted 17 January 2012 Posted 17 January 2012 Reading back through some of the last pages of this thread I wonder if any of you actually go to matches, particularly away ones? Ah well, good to see Beckford performing well - long may it continue, if for no other reason than to keep people on here quiet.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 17 January 2012 Posted 17 January 2012 Suprise, Suprise look what has happended Beckford gets the right service for one game and scores a fuc*ing hat-trick!! Surprise, surprise look what has happened Beckford plays against a League One standard defence and scores a fuc*ing hat-trick!! Pleased that he's finally shown a glimmer of something but I'm not going to changing my opinion that he's not good enough until he's done it consistently, just as I didn't write him off before he turned in woeful performances conisistently.
whoareyaaa Posted 17 January 2012 Posted 17 January 2012 He has balls supplied to him, but can't control them. He has chances provided to him, but he can't take them. What was that? This is the first time I have seen us give proper service to the strikers throughout the game and just goes to show the difference. Plus he actually chased things down today which helped.
cc_star Posted 17 January 2012 Posted 17 January 2012 Suprise, Suprise look what has happended Beckford gets the right service for one game and scores a fuc*ing hat-trick!!
