Beckford off this January

he needs a goal, any goal to lift his confidence and make him relax, if/when he gets it he'll go on a run of scoring

I thought that when he last scored but come next match he was no more effective.

Nugent is not a prolific striker and plays in the same team but is on course for double figures where i can't see Beckford getting anything other than maybe the odd goal by seasons end, hope i'm wrong since i had high hopes but Beckford makes Yakubu look like a workaholic lol

We've been saying that for 17 games. He got one goal, then was shit again, then he got a second, he was shit again. Its just a constant cycle of being shit.

Once we get a couple of wingers and a new midfield, if Beckford doesn't start banging them in, then he needs to find a new club.

Is this really a Beckford problem? He is easy to pick on as he is the big money striker, but the service he gets is appalling! There have been a lot of examples where good players move to clubs that they are probably too good for and they do nothing at all. David James at Bristol City, Bellamy at Cardiff to name two.

As Leicester_Loyal says, lets get him some proper service and see what he can do then. Our midfield is still too weak, despite the emergence of Abe in the defensive role and Danns in centre, the other positions are pretty much up for grabs. Dyer showed yesterday why he was not part of Sven`s long term plans as he is totally inconsistent, and Gallacher ( while I like him ) is a luxury to our side, free kicks and corners but is not a natural winger.

The phone in was a disgrace again yesterday as people all jumped on the Beckford hate bus. Give the guy the service, then judge him!

There was one call at the end that brought this point up after all the Beckford bashing. He even said at the end when they were trying to cut him off, 'does anybody else not see this!!' but they didnt acknowledge the point, yet they gave about 10 minutes to one woman who's point seemed to be, 'we brought loads of fans so we should have won the game'. This same woman seemed to say that we were garbage for the whole game where the general consensus seems to be that after 20 minutes we bossed the game.

Beckford hasn't shown anywhere near the class that we know he has, but unfortuantely the rot has set in just as it did with Yakubu towards the end of last season. Becuase of the negative reporting of him, the popular opinion was that he was just a lazy showboat here for the money. The fact that he bagged shit loads of goals counted for nothing. The same will be for Beckford. Even if he did start banging them in, because of the style of play he has, people will never take to him. You need to run around until you cant run anymore for the fans and commentary team to take to you. This is the reason that if Billy Sharp does sign for us, within a few games people will turn on him.

If you have been to the last 18 games you will see how AWFUL he is. For a professional, highly paid footballer, his first touch can only be described as abysmal!

You can say he's not getting the service but he has had chances he SHOULD have scored or at the very least done better with. Yesterday was a prime example, did nothing all game, didn't close down and then has one shot that balloons over the bar from just inside the area. NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

Yes we need to get a better midfield to provide more chances but if you can't finish the simple ones that I hold out little hope that this arrogant guy is the man to change our fortunes at the club. Get Sharp in, as we all know, a good team defends from the front.

Definately not at his best but neither is the midfield hes trying to play off, a couple of tricky wingers feed off and he may be a different man. i have faith, if we sold him it would be the wrong move

I can't understand why some people want to see him move away, yes its about scoring goals. But if he not getting the service, what can he do. Wellens, King and Co, in the midfield should be the ones who need a boot up their arses and start producing and start out playing other teams midfield players as most teams have our midfilders in their pockets. Barnsley will run riot against our midfield this week.

Stick with beckford he's a good player who has lost form our impatient fans are the reason players fail so often at city. For gods sake support the lad he is a good player not many players go from league 1 to the prem and score 10 league goals in their first season. Get off his back , idiots!

If he isn't getting the service, how have I managed to see him miss at least a dozen sitters since he has been here? We aren't creating tonnes of chances, but he's fluffing almost every chance he does get. And for someone whose game is supposedly all about finishing that has got to be a mjor concern.

The most worrying thing for me is his control. So many attacks break down because he's unable to control what seems like about 80/90% of the balls played up to him. I can forgive a misfiring striker if he has other parts to his game, but at the moment Beckford isn't bringing anything to the table. And that's why a rookie is starting ahead of him and Sharp is being signed.

Sharp and Beckford can play together as testified by that spell at Scunthorpe good news

Shame Beckford is fourth choice striker when they are all fit.

But the point I was making that if Sharp can help Beckford's confidence then it is good news for us as we would have three firing strikers

That's all well and good, but how long ago was that? That was when Beckford was unknown, hungry and trying to prove himself. I'm afraid at the moment he isn't any of those things. I hope he proves me wrong but I can't see it being any different from when he plays with Nugent

The fact is Beckford has a proven goalscoring record even at Everton where he was used sparingly. The problem is he gives the impression he doesn't want to be here. His body language is all wrong and his head needs sorting. He needs to forget he is a Premiership player playing in the Championship, he is not!!

At he end of the day a small fortune, for a Club our size, was shelled out for his "services" plus his inflated salary and the fans deserve better. All we keep hear being said is that he will come good but how long can we and the Club afford to wait. We cannot afford to carry passengers at anytime let alone the business end of the season.

when we get a few wingers and a creative midfielder who will supply balls for him then we will judge him so for now get off his back

He still need to put the effort in though, i.e jumping for headers, even a bit of pressure can force defenders to make mistakes. Jumping for the ball doesn't take much effort either!

He has balls supplied to him, but can't control them.

He has chances provided to him, but he can't take them.

The problem with Beckford is his control is horrific and his game is based on instinctiveness and snap shots. Look at all of his goals for Leeds and they often involve one touch which is a shot or header. Likewise his best chances at Leicester have been shots on the turn and headers. I think he'll be a success at this level again but he's quite limited as a player and confidence seems to be key with him. He can say what he wants about only weak people feel pressure and he might think he's not under pressure but it's clear that he's not playing with a free mind.

Beckford is putting pressure on the rest of the team by not contesting high balls, being dispossessed too easily, giving the ball away with loose passes, and not putting any pressure on their defenders when they have the ball.
