MJ27 Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 Is it just me, or does this guy watch a different game to the rest of us?! I went to the game today, happy with the win, then listened to the phone in on iplayer when I got back... To hear Alan telling all the fans how awful Beckford was, and then defending Steve Howard to a certain extent. Sorry, but Beckford actually wasn't that bad. He was only on for a few minutes, and created a couple of decent chances, yet Young made it sound like he'd been absolutely horrific. He himself is turning the fans against Beckford, making the majority who didn't go to the game now anti him. This isn't right at all, particularly as his 10 minute spell didn't warrant criticism at all. I was really disappointed to hear these comments against a player who needs support. On another note, Matt Mills. He pinged at least 3 beautiful cross field passes, yet I hear Alan Young berating his distribution. And Tunchev 'not being ready' - to be honest this was down to him being played in a left sided position. Talking to three different sets of Palace fans, they all said he was brilliant for them and they'd love to sign him. I am a real fan of Stringer, but just fed up of Alan Young berating players unfairly, bullying referees constantly, and defending the undefendable eg Howard. Get a new co-commentator!
m00nie Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 has his favourites and it really stood out today.. actually made me appreciate stringer talking.. and i wasnt keen on him before... needs to get rid imo
Kitchandro Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 Yeh he needs the sack. I don't see what was wrong with the Stringer-Sinclair partnership. All the ex-players have been useless at this 'expert summarising' thing.
Bugg Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 I didn't hear what he said, but if that is the case then it's appalling. Beckford actually shit their defence up when he came on and nearly created a brilliant goal out of nothing. He was the exact same when it came to Yakubu last year.
MattGamble92 Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 Best thread i have seen on here. I thought you were in for some abuse but it seems its the general opinion. It isn't that he is necessarily a bad analyst, although he isnt exactly great in that regard either, it is his blatantly obvious favouritism of players. Its beyond a joke! His bashing of Sol Bamba for weeks became so embarrassing i couldnt listen to the man. When Bamba was out and SSL came in, you could garuntee every tackle or pass from SSL was going to superb, and on cue, every time he lauded him up and even gave him MOTM. And now he's moved on to Beckford. Before he came on, he blasted him "unprofessional". Then the really ridiculous part came. "Beckford needs to USE HIS EXPERIENCE and make the defenders bring him down in the area", then he DEFENDS HOWARD, a 35 year old man who gets sent off for foul language! The man is, and always will be an LCFC legend and his passion was a breathe of fresh air at first but now its so obvious what hes doing and as BBC Radio Leicester are in a position of trust to report the game as accurately and as unbiased as possible (because lets face it most armchair fans base their opinion on their bullshit), it isnt on.

All the ex-players have been useless at this 'expert summarising' thing. Yeah and have you realised how all the former players they get are usually ones who wouldnt even look out for our results in the sunday morning papers? Young didnt follow us before he got the job, hes admitted as much. And who was it before, ****ing Gary Rowett? Actually maybe we shouldnt be moaning. The thought of John Barber and Gary Rowett just made me feel ill......
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 Give the guy a break he doesn't speak English. Also doesn't stop people forming opinions bassed on his opinions.
Bettsj2 Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 I cant stand the guy. The defending of Howard was embarrasing. Slating Beckford for not running around more when the team needed him then sticking up for 'Frankie' because the linesman wound him up? He's been a professional for 17 years, surely he should be above that by now? But no, Young continues to stick by his favourites. Everyone at the game seemed to think that Danns made an active contribution but according to Young he should have been horded off!! One of the most embarrasing conversations he's had was a couple of weeks ago when someone called in and challenged him about his slating of Yakubu given his superb goalscoring form in the Premiership. Young went on to explain that all the Yak was doing was scoring tap ins and how he wouldnt have wanted him back here!! The blokes a twat. Plain and simple.
Mack Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 I have to agree with all of the above. It's time for a change.
Poakey Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 Was a disgrace yesterday the way he was slagging Beckford off, even before he walked on the pitch he was calling him unprofessional because he forgot to take a ring off!! Then as the final whistle was being blown whilst every other City fan was chuffed with 3 points he was still moaning becasue he wasnt chasing a goal kick down. Then i hear he has the cheek to defend Howard? Prize twat.
Babylon Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 Good commentators shouldn't let their personal opinions get in the way of calling the game fairly for the listener. Unfortunately the two of them are incapable of doing so.
Chrysalis Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 I welcome critiscm, I feel the fans going to games have rose tinted glasses on. I dont want a radio commentator who is too scared to say anything bad. As for what I think of beckford he is welcome to score some goals for us. However I agree young has his favourites, he seems to give the motm award to the same players alll the time and back the same ones every week for praises.
steveherbe Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 I've not renewed my Foxes Player subscription purely because of Youngs comments. Now prefer to keep track of our matches either by R5 Live or Foxestalk.
Babylon Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 I welcome critiscm, I feel the fans going to games have rose tinted glasses on. As opposed to those who don't go to games and wear blacked out glasses you can't see through? I dont want a radio commentator who is too scared to say anything bad. I want a radio commentator who is fair and judges all players equally. Could you imagine his reaction had Beckford, Bamba, Yakubu or Danns been sent off? He certainly wouldn't be sticking up for them like he did Howard. As for what I think of beckford he is welcome to score some goals for us. You mean like Yakubu, who did scored plenty and still got rounded on by him.
jonlcfc1990 Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 I've only missed 4 away games Bury Burnley Cardiff and Palace away this season. I can't listen to the match on BBC Radio Leicester because both ian and Alan wind me up somewhat. I did listen to the last 20 minutes of the Palace match though and like previous postings have said if i wasn't at the game and you were listening to Alan you would of thought Beckford came on and did nothing i was angry at Beckford apparently he wasn't pressuring or chasing the ball and didn't have a very good 20 minutes. Now if that's not true then Alan should be called up on this but because he is a "pundit" he is aloud to change his opinion when ever he likes just like how he defended Svens formation to the hills saying that "no premier league teams play with wingers" Tottenham Manchester norwich Swansea and Wolves to name but a few...
crisp packet Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 Stringers just as bad !!!! I don't want opinions just commentary on the game !!! I feel between the two they have started the bad feeling towards certain players . It started with Ricardo ,we brought weale back we all know how that turned out!!!! The yak was another and bamba is also one who young does nt like ... I have been every home game and five away , drive home listening too the moan in cringeing at youngs summery and our mongol callers who haven't been too the game slagging players off who have played well in my opinion!
darko2k7 Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 I agree with all thats been said in here . The really irritates me more game bt game . He makes one of the main highlights of my week unbearable i really wish i could afford to go to everygame but can not and it worrys me that my opinion of certain players maybe incorrect because of listening to his crap . Something needs doing , the bbc must have got complaints about . JOKE . grrrrrrrr i get made just thinking about him
dalmation18 Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 They are an absolute disgrace. Unprofessional.......perhaps they should have taken some time out yesterday to listen to how 5 live do it. Stringer clearly doesnt understand the game and has no real insight into the club. Loved how he kept going on about having a good relationship with the club on yesterdays commentary..........hes deluded. Hopefully he will be considered 'dead wood' once Pearson starts his clear out.
Soar Fox Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 Imagine how he would have reacted if it was Beckford who got sent off instead of Howard. His hate towards Beckford is exactly the same as last year with Yakubu and listening to it is quite embarrassing.
Christoph Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 Tis why I listened to radio five last night. Refreshing not hearing his bullshizen for once.
jonlcfc1990 Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 Imagine how he would have reacted if it was Beckford who got sent off instead of Howard. His hate towards Beckford is exactly the same as last year with Yakubu and listening to it is quite embarrassing. Spot on!
City Lad Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 Don't mind Stringer too much, although he has his moments. Alan Young borders on being disgraceful every time I have to misfortune of listening to that muppet, he is no better than some bloke screaming 'Gehhhh 'im offff!!!' every home game, in fact he's much worse because he has a duty to report and analyse the action. Its not his job to victimise some players while refusing to criticise others. Luckily I'm either working or actually at the matches so I don't have to endure him that often. When I am at home however I try and find whetever alternative I can (stream, 5live etc) because quite frankly the man is unbearable at best.
demon_dog Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 Being an ST holder means I see all of the home games. Unfortunately it means having to listen to RL for the away matches. When I talk the people around me who have been to the away games, it becomes clear that what you hear from Alan Young is not a true reflection as to how players/team have performed. Needless to say peoples opinions differ, ask a dozen people whom they thought was the best player and you'll probably get nine different answers! I do agree that some of his comments are awful, at the end of the day it's best not to base a match / player analysis on someone elses opinion. It's akin to watching a game on TV and listening to the commentators analysis, you tend to be swayed by his opinion. Far better to watch it with no sound, you can then form your own opinion, then rightly or wrongly you can air your views.
